I’m glad to say I’ve learned much more about the Ashover light railway from watching this. If a group wanted to restore it it doesn’t look too difficult from my view, just need a few chainsaws, planning permission, rails and sleepers.
Great video thoroughly great job guys. There is a bit of the old track bed behind the houses on East side of North Street Holmegate which was called "The Peggy Lines"
It's an enjoyable series, Paul and as my grandson reminds me, we've seen three of the Ashover coaches, two at the Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway and one at the Midland Railway Centre ...cheers James 🙂
@WobblyRunner looking forward to seeing that Paul, you can see the Ashover Coaches on one of our Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway videos...cheers for 🙂👍
Paul, I just wanted to congratulate you on yet another local railway video, I really enjoyed it from start to finish 😃 sadly I don't know much about this railway, but watching your videos, I've learnt quite a lot about the area and the railway now thanks to you both 😃 I pass the only on remaining old bridge abutment on a regular basis when I go on a bus service called the Comet to Derby and always wondered what it used to be, and now at last I do now. On another note, do you by any chance know that there is a footpath from Clay Cross Railway tunnel to the old Carriage shed at a place called Hepthorne Lane? which is now used to store and do maintenance on old trams from the Crich Tramway Village? I've done it a few times, but word of warning Paul, don't try it in the winter months, as it gets really boggy!!!!!! 😁😁 So not nice or walkable. Anyway Paul, like I always say to you, please keep up the good work, your doing a great job!!!!!!!!! 👍 All the best from. (Chesterfield) Mike. 🚂
Hi Mike. I was always aware of the old Engine Shed down at Clay Cross junction being connected to the Crich Tramway museam. I never really paid much atttention to it, though, as its always looked semi - derelict ! Even when i was young I thing it was being used as such.
Yes it's actually what I thought myself, but it's only what I've been told by one of my railway enthusiast mates, all he said was it was being used as a storage shed for the trams. So not really sure myself either. Anyway thanks for the reply back.
Absolutely loved this series. So much so two weekends ago I took the mini for a drive to Ashover Rock and Ogston reservoir. Key question tho. How big is big Phil?
Hi. I can confirm i am well over 6 ft ...not that big if to take into account that many of my colleagues I do the walks with are all over 6 foot but the name was bestowed on me by another TH-camr who I meet up with now and again.
hi can i request an abandoned area that is interesting .... its in ambergate and its called the bridon wireworks and there is also a large manor house called oakhurst house .... both of these areas are close by each other and got abbandoend in the 1990s it is full of graffiti and its great for photographs .... if you could visit here it would be much appreciated .... if you dont want to visit here i understand thanks .
Hi. I have been thinking about that old house but the last i heard is that it was all fenced off and had security, due to the ammount of Urban Explores taking plave in and around it.
@@gilesestram yes this is the issue with it unfortunately i have visited there three times and i managed to get up twice when it wasnt boarded up ... i last went there a few months agao and it was really fenced off and there was security also .... there is a gate but its got cctv messages all over it

Another great one Paul interesting and enjoyable thanx for sharing.
Great stuff cheers Chris.
The bridge you mention near the tunnel i think was a standard gauge line from clay cross station up to clay cross goods yard near to the town centre
Very very interesting.

Great stuff Mike. Good to know. I'll have a look at that on Google maps
Springfield Lane, down to Springfield Halt, is now Public Footpath No.1
Excellent video Paul. I had no idea there was an interchange station at Stretton
Cheers Russ. I guess you'd never know there was even any kind of station there now?
@WobblyRunner
When you pass that area on the train the area seems a lot more remote than it actually is

Can we blame @Leicexplore for that one? 😄
