Hopefully this means i can finally afford a 2014
I would actually expect to see price-hikes on any 5th gen given the new 4 cylinder powertrain. I’ve seen some people mock us folks that are concerned with having such a small engine in a 4Runner. I just can’t wrap my head around all the bells and whistles to make that work. I wouldn’t be surprised if the “improvement” on fuel economy is negligible. But we’ll see.
@@JerkStoreCalled well the taco tells you everything about this because this uses the same drive train. this gets low to mid 20s for mpg. which i believe beats the v6 that gets hopefully upper teens on thd highway.
more of an issue from this is going to be reliability. sure it's a Toyota but they actually have a (relatively) bad history with any 2.4L
But it should be priced a notch lesser than the land cruiser ?
@@bradhaines3142 those figures are not to be trusted

lol , I'll be lucky if my dealership gets 2 of these in a year. Build more toyota!
Dealerships are independently owned and set their own pricing. Not all Dealerships markup their new models.

You definitely are not
Not the only one. I still happily drive a 04 SR5
I just wish we could get a fairly basic new 4runner. Without all the electronics and a lower starting price!

I concur. It’s irritating; if you want to listen to music, put your earbuds on.

As a current 5th Gen 4Runner owner, I think Toyota did a really good job with modernizing this throwback SUV (given the current EPA regulations).

4Runner was marketed for the first time in the US as toyota trekker back in 1984.
In 1985 the name officially changed to 4Runner.
2025 would be 40 years anniversary of the 4Runner
Toyota USA should make limited edition solid axle with removable top for the anniversary just like its ancestor

Tacoma, Tundra, Sequoia, Land Cruiser, Supra, GR Corolla, and now my favorite, 4Runner ... what a golden lineup of beautifully designed machines. Salute Toyota. Salute.

We appreciate your kind words, John! Thanks for being in the Toyota family.
Tundra is not a good looking vehicle, all the others are. Interior of Sequoia s a disaster. This 4-Runner is nice but needs a tuning knob.
Umm the Tundra is the ugliest truck ever made. I thought for sure I would get a Tundra (until the reveal). Ended up with a Titan instead.
Thank you all for the renderings in the last few years. Nobody guessed the rear side windows---2nd gen throwback style!
Excellent content! This is absolutely the best information about the 2025 4Runners out there. Now, about that four-cylinder… 🤔 I’ve got a 2004 going strong at 300K, so I’m waiting a bit - but will enjoy the view of the new in the meantime.
You guys really F’ed up by replacing the venerable 4.0L V6. That was one of the most reliable engines you’ve ever made.

Another interesting point. The Lexus GX550 Overtrail is listed at 69,200 on Lexus website. If the very top trim in the 4Runner isn’t at least 10k cheaper than that, why on earth would anyone buy the 4Runner of the GX550?
They have a lot of SUV's all close together in size and price it seems. The TRD Pro 4Runner here will be $60k+ to start. The current 5th Gen Pro is $56k so I assume the new one will be more.

Congratulations. I am just starting out in life, and hope vehicles like this will still be made in 20 years when I reach my peak. Unlikely, but hopefully. After 14 years I expected something better… except for the interior, that’s a very nice upgrade.

@@Wolfgang51501986 better than this? It's awesome
14 years for a 4 banger 😂
I would prefer a no tech V6 trd option. The rest of the vehicle looks very nice. I will stay in the 5th generation club.
Fantastic! The 4Runner is back and better than ever! There is a reason why Toyota is the # 1 vehicle manufacturer in the work and it is because of vehicles like this. Well done Toyota. Well done.
Will the Trailhunter trim with the I-Force Max be available with the 3rd row seats?
I love the look and styling of both the interior and exterior. Not sold on the standard powertrain. The outgoing 4.0 put out the same HP numbers and almost ten same torque and was basically bulletproof. This small displacement 4cyl will be working twice as hard to make the same power and of course will reduce reliability long term. I’ll hang onto my 22’ for a few years before I make the decision to grab this or the new Lexus GX550. Leaning heavily toward the Lexus right now due mainly to the beefier motor. Huge win it’ll still be made in Japan though
Yeah I really wonder what the long term reliability will be with that drive train. I'm still thinking of getting a GX460 though. I'm sure getting the hybrid would take some stress off the engine. But not everybody wants a hybrid.
@@Whatsth3ruckus I like the GX460 as well but I’m a big fan of the more modern interiors. I’ve got a 22 4Runner TRD ORP that’s modded exactly how I want it with only 22k miles so I got a few years or decades to decide, lol. I’ll prolly be in the market in 3/4 years after feedback starts coming in on those powertrains
I force max makes significantly more
The Engine makes more power bro
a 3 cylinder would be working twice as hard, this one will be working 2/3 as hard.
The TRD PRO looks immaculate ❤❤❤❤
They got rid of the hydius roof rack!
This is my dream car, welcome 2024 4Runner come to me right now...
So much for reliability. The naturally aspirated V6, 5 speed transmission was bullet proof. You could count on it to not break down and easily go 300K miles with proper maintenance. You'll be lucky to get even 200K miles out of a turbo engine. The same goes for the hybrid motor.
These are not vehicles I would want to drive into remote areas. But then the average purchaser will be only using them to go to work and to get groceries.
Also issues with turbo and hybrid are much more expensive to fix than naturally aspirated.
What's that camper trailer at 7:04?
Love ❤️ it
Great job Toyota 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
❤️🇯🇵 Thanks 🙏🏻
This is why I love Toyota - they don't compromise. Absolutely knocked it out of the park with this one, just like they've been doing with the Tacoma, Sequoia, Tundra... Incredible design and incredible capability.
We appreciate your kind words, Jeremy! Thanks for being in the Toyota family.
It has a 4-cylinder turbo and the seats don't fold flat. That's a huge compromise.
Why were there bolts and under panels exposed behind the power running boards on the premium model? I hope they add a finished look to that before release.
I have had two 4 runners, 1998 in which I put 400,000 miles on it. The rear end exploded on it so I bought a 2012 that I drive today. I love both trucks and was looking forward to the new Landcruiser but I'm liking what I've seen on the new runner.

Wow good to see it in action! This 4Runner looks superior to the mini Land Cruiser
They are 90% the same vehicle. Same engine, transmission, frame, and suspension. Same dimensions, except the land cruiser is 6 inches taller!
Exceeded expectations! They look amazing!
We have a 2016 and we love it for our new family

uhm....
I like it It's kind of funny they move the hulk Hogan mustache from the tailgate to the front bumper
It's a nod from the 3rd gen! I refer to them as tusks that just happen to connect. The strength coming up from the bottom. Somewhat reminiscent of a halo warthog from my childhood.

What a cool truck!😯
Looks awesome! Just not sure about the engine...
Was this filmed near the book cliffs in western Colorado? Looks just like it.

I was thinking the same thing. Looks like you can see the Grand Mesa in a couple of shots. Also, saw some camo covered wrapped SUVs a week or two ago.
Driven a few cars with heads up display. Great feature.
Looks great! Especially liking that rear quarter panel window design, almost harkens back to the "Pick-up with bed cover" look of old 4Runners.
I am disappointed tho that they didn't lean into a more open-air experience (not necessarily a convertible, but a bigger sun roof maybe?), not just to better combat Jeep and Bronco, but also to better differentiate itself from the new Land Cruiser Prado, that sits on the same chassis.
You people were told (if not warned) time and time again not to expect anything topless or Bronco targeting.
You don't listen and then find out the truth the hard way. Stop trusting dumb vlogger and clickbait rumors.
@@nwezetx1 woah there, Bessie. Lighten up. Also, I also said to differentiate itself from the Land Cruiser Prado, because let's be honest, this thing ain't gonna be cheap, and if I have 50k or 60k to spend, I'd rather get an LC Prado.
@@lanceislateagain The Land Cruiser should have been an FJ40 throwback and the dumb idea to make it a Prado for the United States did not make sense whatsoever.

The exterior look is one thing but man those creature comforts are what I wish I had on my 2024 5th Gen. Wireless Carplay, Ventilated Seats, Power Lift gate...who knows maybe this 4Runner will be remote start capable via the Toyota app!
YOU HAD ME AT POWER LIFT GATE 🤣 I still don't understand we my 5th Gen doesn't have this
More important is your engine. It will outlast this new turbo engine. Bulletproof dinosaur powertrain that will go 300k easily
As long as remote start remains on the key fob…. No app based only functions.
@@thomasrossi31 Fair enough. Starting and lock/unlocking my car via phone or even apple watch still seems nice.
@@HarrisonAGreen just from experience. I bought a 2024 Mazda CX50 with remote start… I never thought to ask if it was from the remote. It’s not! Only from the app? Now, if I’m walking to the car, I have to open the app to start the car, or say you’re getting ready to leave your house, I want to just hit the button in the key fob… nope - open the app. And just as bad as the app only starter, the car shuts off as soon as you touch a door handle… just silly to me. I’m going to look into an aftermarket starter. They’ve made “simple” - annoying.
Just my opinion.

Front bumper looks much better to me. Allows for much more clearance. I also like the Scifi military styling.
The specs on it show they actually decreased the approach angle.
Glad you like it, I like that too
Decreased off-road performance over the 5th Gen with much more limited clearance in approach and departure angles, and longer wheelbase and overall length. Strangely, even though it’s much longer, the 2nd row is much more cramped.
Love the rear wrap around quarter windows. But why make the interior screen look like a propped up tablet. What happened with incorporating it into the dash?
Also, why remove the manual transfer case in the off road models. I love the lever in my 2020.

Love the body style, it looks rugged! However, about that 4 cylinder engine, it will be years before it proves itself to be more reliable than the legendary V6. Can it do it? Time will tell!
You obviously don't follow the history of Toyota's turbocharged engines. Toyota sold turbocharged 4-cyl. pickups in 1985-86 and a turbocharged MR2 sports car from 1991-95 and did very well. Then Toyota released their newest U.S. turbo offered in the THEN ’15 Lexus NX 200t luxury compact CUV. Also did well. My point is, Toyota have been engineering turbocharged engines for quite a while now, and I think they know what they are doing!
