The legend that is Mark King! I actually met him twice, 82 and 85 and he is also a really nice guy. Many don't realise that even though he is a virtuoso bassist he also plays drums really well too!
I remember watching Level 42 on MTV yrs ago and i knew this guy was special. I was not exactly a fan, but always meant to look him up and see his stuff. Im blown away! Mark is a phenomenal player!
How Mark has changed his mind on effects pedals through the years as he was never that keen on them... Either way with or without pedals he's one ace bassist as well as an accomplished drummer & people also seem to forget that he does play amazing finger style playing as well... I just wish he'd go back to his JD Supernatural Series of bass guitar's as the Status (though great bass guitar's) don't have that bottom end warmth along with the high mids & treble that the JD's could & can do better... I owned a Status Bass Guitar year's ago & though beautifully built & a gem to play they just lack that warm bottom end when you play on the bridge pick up & this was no matter how much I played around with the settings... If you like this sound then by all means buy a Status Bass Guitar but for me the John Diggin's Supernatural Series sound so much warmer & better when playing along to Mark Kings songs that he used on his Original Line Up of Level 42 albums... RIP Boon Gould... A quiet master on lead guitar & a great song writer also... That's us lost another great musician with no one to fill the void since the arse basically fell out of the music industry once the internet came along with digital downloads or streaming... You can't beat seeing great musicians playing Live & in person & internet can never do this so I urge you to go & see who's out there & support your local bands as we need to keep music alive... .....
Wish the videography was better. It's all using this trend moving and blending focus and images. But I would rather have seen the great Mark King showing us his bass technique and the setting of the pedal in question. It's Mark who is the star here and not the artistic quality of the editor/ camera person. Just saying like.
The strings are double ball ended. they fit over the bridge and into anchor points at the nut end of the neck. The bass is tuned at the bridge rather than having tuning pegs at the headstock.
Mark King is a bass legend, and that instrument is beautiful... but what a waste of interview, camera man and the cut away edits are shocking TC, bloody amateur should've just stuck with the wide shots.
Mark is so badass he makes you want to sell your gear. He is the epitome of raw talent.
This man, along with Mike Lindup is quite definitely one of the most talented and irresistible musicians on the planet !
Saw these guys live, they were bloody amazing. :)
And he still wears a watch - now there's a man with integrity! 🔥

King of Slap 👍
The King>>>
As long as you pay him of course it is all great pedals. Mark is a real marketing guy :P
wish some could just slap us that sample riff loop for our own performances of hot water
mark king sooooooooo gooooood.x
he's starting to look like Judy Finnigan
More like private Godfrey from Dads Army
The Bass king
I think Mark King is one of the most talented musicians ever. Top bloke and when he's not touring, he works his farm on the Isle of Wight.

Cool
Love Mark King but the cameraperson needs to drink less coffee and focus on keeping the camera still!
Agreed not enough focus on the King and his Bass technique. Not even close up of the pedal function and set up.
Who the hell shot this?! Learn your craft.
I agree. Just added relatively the same comment.
He is to the bass what Horowitz was to the piano.
FEck, Yeeaaahhh.
what makes different headless basses?
They don't have a head
The strings are double ball ended. they fit over the bridge and into anchor points at the nut end of the neck. The bass is tuned at the bridge rather than having tuning pegs at the headstock.
We are not worthy.
It was more than alright...
There's hope yet, the only brilliant bass player with proper sausage fingers I know, most having spiders legs for digits. 😉

great bass player terrible camera man
Agreed 👍
