Half a dozen years ago, I picked up a guy as an uber passenger from backstage at Blossom Music Center that I think was the current Bassist for Crissy Hinds when she was in town (her home, Akron). We were talking about Bass players, and I said that Mark King was one of my favorites. At first, the guy didn't seem to know who that was, until he said, in kind of a snarky way "Oh yeah. He's a slapper". i just thought to myself - I bet he could slap circles around you.
@@petehotton4740 Dear Kamaran, unfortunately you are mistaken. Mark Kink IS the best slap funk Bass player known to mankind. Small mistake, no harm taken.

one of the things i love about this concert is they don’t need flash, dancers, hype etc. they have presence and personality plus pure well-written catchy tunes. just appreciating the talent
Phil Gould. Still the best drummer Level 42 had. There have definitely been players with all the chops since like Gary H and now Pete R B, but Phil had the groove and the right feel. I am a massive Gary Husband fan ,but you can't beat Mr Gould.
The thing that makes Mark King extra special, is the way he not only plays bass incredibly, but sings at the same time. Once in a lifetime talent. Living legend.👊😎
Never did I see ( BACK then till NOW) of heard a bass player use his bass as a Spanish FUNKY rythm guitar, for me that's the best part.. Mark King FUNKSs
I always come for the solo but end up staying for this version of love games lol. That solo is incredible, those chords in the beginning part are just so lovely and trying to figure them out is a pain in the arse but wow its just so so good. Much love to the King himself ❤❤❤
I've always been a fan of level 42 and always had a great sense of appreciation for Mark's bass slapping style. How the heck did I manage to miss this performance

I was at one of these Wembley gigs, I think this is the tour that had Mike and Mark suspended from wires flying around the stage. The band inspired me to become the musician I am now.

Still there greatest performance on camera to date ... and this was in the 80's!! They've not topped this on film ... and unfortunately never will again.
Slickest production for sure. But for sheer performance check out the '92 live at town and country club show. It's got the horns and some great tight performances with the Husband/Jakko lineup.
I never forget when you played in GISLEPARKEN in GISLAVED in 1984 or 1985. I was backstage and got your autographs 😍😍😍. It was an amazing evening 🙏😍🎧🎤🎶🎛
Classic! Rock and Funk combined as I think no one else can do it. Maybe chillie peppers from time to time but these guys grove even more amazingly and it it’s head banging hard even if it’s almost easy listening music 😂💪🏼
I like this original Level 42 lineup best with the Gould brothers, 1 on lead guitar and other on drums. also included in this live performance are Annie Mckean(correct name ?) singing behind Mike Lindup master keyboardist, and the guy ? on saxophone .

I met Mark and the guys in Germany in the 80s.. this is one bad ass bass player. But the whole band was tight. And you have to keep in mind, he's playing these crazy bass lines and singing..lol
After years listening Level 42, I think that is the best song ever wrote by this band. The bass line is simply terrific even is not the more complex and it could play solo for each instrument if Mark let's just a little place for them ;)

Agree! There was something about the goulds that made level 42.
Phil is up there with the greats. Absolutely phenomenal drummer. Even Jeff Porcaro was a fan of his..

I was at this concert........what a night !!!
Same, was an amazing gig. Super tight band live.
Actually there were about 16 - 20 sold out concerts in late 86/early 87. The video is a mixture of recordings from a few of those.
That drumming though!! Crisp, clean and still groovy.
The ORIGINAL LINEUP OF L42 WILL NEVER BE EQUALED! NEVER!
I used to have this on VHS and watched it many times.
mark is the best bass player and lead singer of the world ! since 1983 !!! respect !!!
Cool , curious.. why 83 ?
What a band...really been revisiting Phil Goulds incredible work...what a pocket man!!!
Mark King, straight genius.
3:15 to around 4:20, is that just the best groove ever. Drums and Bass absolutely nailed beyond belief. Also the crack on the snare is awesome

I was there....Never forgotten the drums atop of so many cabinets! Blacklight heaven!!!

It’s like someone has hit the fast forward button on his hands but everything else is at normal speed..! Incredible.
Number One. Always has been.
Love that strummed bit in the solo. Superbly funky!
