Where'd you get this lovely piece of history?
1873 was a landmark year. Also Levi Strauss invented his “blue jeans,” and the first commercial version of barbed wire was introduced.
Closing the west…
The dichotomy of those things is interesting.
And look where Levi's is now... Sad
I know! Isn’t it beyond sad that Levi Strauss has now become one of the wokest of the woke companies that wants to ban guns and believes that women are nothing but birthing persons and men can get pregnant😢😢😢
And the Single Action Army was invented
Great show. The 1873 is a pleasure to shoot. Mine was made in 1878. As a side note...when you do your intro and name famous folks from Tennessee maybe mention Larry Taylor. He was just awarded the Medal of Honor for his gallant actions as a helicopter pilot during the Vietnam war. He lives in Signal Mountain.
Thank Larry for going and let him know I'm glad he came back.
May god bless him
Dear Mr. Hickok, I've been a firearms enthusiast since childhood. I have a great love of all things cowboy and black powder. I am also a 2A supporter and understand how important it is that we continue to advocate against the eroding of those rights. But, sometimes I get fed with the forced politicization or guns, and just want to go hang out on the range and enjoy one of my favorite hobbies. Thank you for giving us all a place to do that and learn about the history of firearms. We are indebted to you beyond words. Much love to you and John for your friendship and all the work you do.
A beautiful rifle, with a great legacy for sure! Thank you for sharing the celebration 👍
The rifle used in "Winchester '73", starring Jimmy Stewart, was actually a Winchester '73. The rifle that Chuck Connors used in "The Rifleman" was a Winchester 1892.
I remember seeing "Winchester '73" on the tv schedule decades ago. I set up the VCR but when I went to watch, it was some hideous remake. Thank goodness the original is available anytime now.
Most cowboy movies used 92’s or even 94’s. I always appreciate seeing the correct weapons for the periods depicted.
Thanks for this.
I loved Jimmy Stewart, that film was amazing
@@MarkNelson-tu1rn I have seen the remake and you are right it sucked!
What an iconic Rifle! Very beautiful!
Hickok45, Thank you for another wonderful video!
Another fantastic video. I have my Grandad’s ‘73 that he got from his Dad that was manufactured in 1883. Fantastic and priceless firearm.
What’s it chambered in?
It’s in 44-40.
Happy Anniversary to the Winchester 1873!! Thanks for sharing, Hickok45!
Evening,Sir.
That Winchester is a gift from God, and the family that presented it to you.
It was meant to be in your hands for all of us to enjoy.
I too, was gifted one of those rifles at the ripe old age of 11 years old.
I'm 60 now.
And I don't really have any one worthy of that rifle to pass it on to.
It's in 38 WCF.
Made in 1893.
XXX walnut, with a pistol grip stock, with crescent buttplate.
Lyman peep sight from the factory on the tang.
And case colored reciever.
I plan to be in Tulsa in October, with that rifle, hopefully to pass it on to someone who can appreciate it as long as I have.
The rifle is truly a work of art.
Original.
As it left the Winchester Factory in a completely different period of history, that I'm afraid this country will never have the opportunity to re live.
A very nice piece of functional history! I have a Uberti 1873 in 44 Magnum but my favorite load is a 200 gr cast bullet at 1100-1200 FPS somewhat close to a 44-40 load. Very fun to shoot and very accurate still carrying a nice wallop on the steel!
Love the vintage (very vintage) firearms video's. They're works of art. And the history is always interesting!
To celebrate, see the movie, 'Winchester '73', with James Stewart!
If I could only have one rifle, it would be the 1873 Winchester.
Happy anniversary Winchester 73!
Admin take very short period to aim a gun to shoot.
very impressive.
History and work of art. Love the Winchesters. Thx sir.😊
Glad to see you in good health, sir. Love your vids
@@wapiti3750 I haven't seen him in a while, glad to see him still doing so well

Anniversary of the 45-70?
Yes, stay tuned!
What a great rifle and video. My personal favorite Winchester is the '73. I have several original classics but I do not have a '73. I do have a repro but not an original. This is a beauty.
The first firearm I bought when we moved to Texas 5 years ago…chambered in 45 Colt….because…Texas! 🇨🇱🤠
Great educational and historical video. Thank you
I just watched Strain 100 again yesterday. You need to get into more movies.
Very nice Commemoration of a real beauty. The Winchester 1873 is as iconic as they come. I certainly love my Rossi clone. Not exactly the same, I realize, but love it all the same. Thanks guys.
Excellent video! I have learned so much from you over the years.
Great video and nice celebration, thans Mr. Hickok.
Awesome 1873 Winchester rifle thanks for sharing Hickok45
In India, police still use the Lee Enfield rifle (bolt action)
Just beautiful…got to love these original lever actions👍
Every time i see these rifles i think about billy the kid
Love all of your videos and this one particularly. 1873 must have been a good year.
It’s excatly 100 years older than me 👍
Thanks for showin off this beauty!
Amazing gun and amazing video beautiful
Aqui e do Brasil, eu tenho uma 1892 44_40 na caixa de madeira, inclusive tem um cinturão de por balas. Que deve ter vindo original!
Parabéns.
One of my favorite channels and I love the Winchester 73 and all the old western action firearms.
One was featured in the great Western _Hostiles_ , carried by Christian Bale in the role of Captain Joseph J. Blocker. His, of course, was an Uberti carbine version.
Always enjoy your videos. Sometimes you even learn something.
"Look what I am doing here." Loading it on the Tuesday and shooting it all week.
Love the videos keep it up
That Rifle is as historic as it can get.
Awesome classic rifle and firepower
I’m a sucker for old Winchester rifles always wanted a pre 64 model 70
Great video as always! I've wanted to get an old lever action for a long time, and this video stoked my interest again! There's a gun show this weekend, maybe I'll see something good!
Looking forward to the anniversary of the 45-70
Got the Uberti, Miroku and one made in 1882. I’ll just say that the antique 1873 is a true work of art. And you can feel some real meaning when you handle it. Love my newer models for rapid firing and there’s nothing more fun. But firing an original in black powder 44-40 is an insane feeling!!!
Some beautiful old guns.
really nice gun my mom has a gun simaler to that one but its chambered in 30-30 its is gonna be the first rifle i will use to hunt big game
Winchester 1873 no scope BABY!!!!!
Magníficos... excelentes.
So I just had on a movie called Strain 100 in the background while I was studying. I got up looked over and just saw you with a lever action killing some zombies. That was phenomenal! And you even plugged your TH-cam channel. Only reason I'm posting this here is because it's a lever action rifle you're showing. Well done sir, well done! I'm an even bigger fan now.
Thanks. Yeah, that was my Henry Rifle I took to Michigan for the filming. I thought it would look good on screen, plus it was a firearm that we could show empty cases ejecting without actually firing real ammo.
@@hickok45 very cool!
❤From Delhi India
Love those old beautiful guns!
Driving nail, the Beverly hillbillies, and ladyfingers as bullets. Great video, love the lever action Winchester. 🇨🇦
Thanks, great rifle. Take care
I watched "The man that shot Liberty Valance" again yesterday. For many years I wondered why the Doc had not figured out that Rance did not shoot Liberty. I thought it would have been obvious if a 30-30 round had hit him versus a 45 colt slug. Only recently did I come to the realization that the rifle was not a 30-30 but likely a 44-40 pistol caliber similar to the handgun cartridge and that is why it was not obvious who shot Liberty.
My most prized possession.
So cool! I bought one earlier this year!
Beautiful rifle, great channel and anniversary of the 1873 Winchester along with my personal all time favorit gun, Colt single action army 45. it should get a big celebration in a lot of videos on youtube channels. I'm sure you think the same about the Colt as I do. Keep up the good work, loved your channel for 12/13 years. :D
Yes, I hope you've caught our Colt SAA 150th year celebration. We'll also get to the Trapdoor Springfield and .45-70 soon. What a monumental year for firearms and cartridges.
@@hickok45 Thanks for telling me about your Colt SAA 150th year video, I will watch it and give it a like. Trapdoor Springfield and cartridges too, yes 1873 is indeed a year to remember when you love old guns like we do. I'm 26 years old from denmark and hope to come to your country someday, it is just better when you love history, guns, beatiful nature and freedom. greetings to you from here and thankyou for your reply sir.
One of my favorites
I had a Winchester 1873 in .38-40 once, made in 1892 and to this day I wish I had not sold that gun. I recently picked up an Uberti 1873 in .45 Colt that shoots really well, but it's not quite the same as shooting an original. I do have an original 1888 Trapdoor Springfield that's a lot of fun to shoot.
Just saw you in Strain 100! Really cool!
Old gun but so very nice and so verry cool like U.,very nice video.ur so lucky u have a nice old gun..just like u owesome old man but a truly sharpShooter.
That is one beautiful rifle.
Beautiful gun , thanks ...
I love shooting my 1873 mine is the saddle ring carbine
The Turks made good use of them against the Ruzzians in the battle of Plevna in 1877, for those of you who care about history...
Love your channel I was just watching you fire full auto aks and ars now watching you shoot a old lever gun
Yeah, and all three are equally fun! :-)
Such a great gun, we actually have one being offered on consignment in the shooty shop I work in, granite state indoor range in Hudson NH. NOT a repro, the real deal, in very nice condition.
Outstanding
Amazing gun love the look of it
Suggestion for a future firearm review: Tisas Regent BR9 semiautomatic (Hi Power clone). Love your videos🤘🏽.
You are my favorite gun guy on TH-cam. I wish I had your back yard ✌️
Classic.
Such a nice rifle!
Like the inception of a 9,999 year lease in Lathom, Lancashire, where leaseholders elected a Bailiff to collect the profits from the Bailiwick (the agreement known as the Bailiwick of Bicester Market End), the Winchester makes a bold statement about the use of firearms.
Awesome rifle. The closest I get is my 1971 Winchester 30/30 .love the videos.
Hello Sir, did not kn ow where to properly put this so here it is. Just watched your movie Strain 100 on VUDU enjoyed it. Thanks!
Please explain rimfirean center fire. Love your videos
I really have to get one of them. I had a Browning BL92 in 44 Mag and had to sell it. I think Winchester has a pretty decent 92 lever action. I might have to go down that road. I love Lever Actions.
In an old western-series I saw a quickshot Winchester with a big round repetierring.
Do tell!!!🤣
"Repetierring", the next best thing to semi-full-auto, no doubt.🤠
I have several lever-action rifles myself I love them and also have the other kind AR and such and m1a and this variety of liever action rifles are mainly Henry's and the Marlin that was on by Badlands villalovoz be I bought beautiful have a 450 with a Anderson lower and Bushmaster it's a behemoth and I love it just like you love your guns
I have the more recent Miroku made 1873 and it is both beautiful and deadly from distance. Stout gun that makes 357 rounds feel like shooting a .22
great vid!!!
Do you shoot modern powder for the antique 1873 ?
Grandpa Was Here 🤘🏻💯🇺🇸☕️
Wow, you’ve owned that rifle a long time!
Just saw you in Strain 100
Well Done 👏 ✔️ 👍
I want one! 😭
Man that's really cool that fewer gave you an 1873 that's what's great about America
Excele te rifle y el complemento al saa 45 peacemaker ,saludos desde España 🤠👍
I am drooling right now 🤤😍
man i love hickok45. RIP
Most of us in the U.K. don’t get to see Winchester 73s in person, or ever expect to see one being fired, but as a child growing up in the 50s, and liking Cowboy Films, I certainly knew what one was! It was, of course, “The Gun that won the West”……
Watching Hickok45 is like watching Bob Ross paint 🫡
Some people mounted their rifle butt near the saddle horn and others mounted it near the stirrup.
Classical classic
what a beauty
Hopefully I am in this world to witness the 200th anniversary in the year 2073 it would be incredible and the best thing is that I would be the age of hickok or even older xd I was born in 2002 so it will be very nostalgic to see your old videos if youtube survives long enough🤠
In the east You are the "ichiban" of the guns and rifles pap...
appreciate for the small talk pap. Good day.
