    Wonderful rendition of the aurora. I lived in Alaska for 40 years and have have watched the Northern lights so many times. You've done them justice in this painting!

    It is so cool how just adding random lines and brushes of paint to a canvas can create shapes that can take your art to such a different place than what you had imagined in the begining. I do this all the time, just add some random strokes and study the canvas. Let the canvas decide what I am painiting. The bottom left of this work i see a skull forming in the sky. If this was my work i would have started to build off of that by softly highlighting the shape of it.

    Woo hoo! I'll have to try this in oils...maybe in layers 🤔 obviously no water. 😄 I'm problem solving now. Oh yeah, start monochromatic then I can do glazing. Oh man, splattering with oils...that will definitely be outside 😳
    Windy day outside. Those frogs are so cute and the silverware insects too.

    • @Lachri
      @Lachri  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will work almost exactly the same, you just have to let the black and white layer dry before glazing 😁

    That's great. I attempted a northern lights today but I did exactly what you said NOT to do and though my background with a milky way was pretty awesome when I tried the lights it all went belly up.😮 so tomorrow I'll be painting over it and starting again! I've not picked up a paintbrush in 3yrs so was a bit rusty. Glazing over the white is a great idea. I'll try using mixing white as it's more transparent.😊

    HI Lisa, nice way of doing the Northern Lights, your gardening is so different than what I do in CT, we have garden "troughs" and I just throw the seeds in for the butterflies and birds, lots of milkweed, herbs, definitely need my morning glories and moonflowers. When you said you had a hibiscus in that pot, I had to chuckle, my hibiscus have to be in the ground, they are huge here. I love your decorative accents to the garden, I have those same flat round disc solar lights too as well as the pole solar lights with a clear flower or hummingbird on it, I like collecting the more sculpture type solar lights poles too. Again, thanks for the video, you have given me some ideas to do a patriotic northern lights painting.

My girlfriends birthday is soon and her favourite colour is purple/scarlet so I've been looking for inspiration to create something for her in that scheme and on this subject but didn't know how to go about it! I use oils rather than acrylic, any advice on achieving the same light effect cause obviously oils dry so much slower and diluting with water won't work? Beautiful work 😊

    Hello from Norway. I have been looking at this beautiful northern light that you paint, but i do not understand how and when you spray water. Do you spray water on the canvas when you start painting the white color?....and do you spray water when you paint blue, green and purple color? I thought that this would cover the white color.

    I see that this video is from 2 year ago. I looked at the water mister bottle you recommended (just today 11.19.23). Are you still satisfied with it? Many of the reviews said it either didn’t work right out of the box, broke within a few months, was difficult to spray or couldn’t get it to mist or arrived damaged beyond use. I will be doing a small in-person acrylic workshop next year that is an introduction to acrylics and as the hands-on portion want to do an Aurora Borealis painting as I think this will give them a variety of techniques to try. I watched about 10 different videos and I like your technique best but I will need to provide 10 students with the misting bottles, so I want to make sure I have ones that will work well. That workshop will be followed by a more in depth one and will likely use the mister for that as well. (I always include you as a resource for my acrylic, colored pencil, & pastel workshop students to continue their learning experience as I have learned, and pass on, so much from you). If you continue to recommend this particular mister, I will give it a go, but if you have since found one you like better, I’d love to know that too. Cheers!
