I got a reservation 3 months in advance a few years ago. I had a the veal tartare, duck hearts, a massive steak with bone marrow and my wife got the lobster spaghetti. It was an unforgettable experience.

Joe Beef is awesome. We were lucky enough to get a reservation at the bar twice, when we were there. Everything was so fresh. I love the vibe of the place.

Couldn’t get into joes beef on two trips to Montreal…..got into their restaurant next door and still had one of my favorite meals of all time. A lamb neck covered in pelminis and onions. And tartare served in the middle of a hollowed out grilled cheese.

One of the best meals I’ve ever had was at the sister restaurant next door cuz I couldn’t get a seat. Oysters, followed by a croque madam with a hole in the middle filled with steak tartare. Main course, a Jurassic looking lambs neck smothered with pelminis and kraut or onions or something.

One of the worst experiences ever. Reserved 6 months ahead, arrived from out of town. They made us wait in a packed place, gave our table to others, then finally sat us down in a cramped narrow bar are. The meal was certainly not legendary, and since we were really unhappy, the waiter offered us free ice cream, but no choice. It was a mound of orange goop that we left uneaten. When I wrote back to let them know of the poor experience, got the money we spent, we never even got an acknowledgement. Try a better place in Montreal, au pied de cochon.

Yup, those two bloated chefs turn my stomach. There used to be much better places to eat in Montreal, these types of over-the-top places like Joe Beef are nauseating and not fine dining of any type. I still miss the Piemontais.
