We just finished camping at -12° in a parachute canopy at Snow Base in MN. A few of our younger scouts tried but had to go back while waiting for water to boil 😅. Below -5 you have to keep moving even with the right gear on until you get in your sleeping bag. Good job guys 💪
Been there done that .....but these times you never forget . We use to carry our water in 5 gallon Jerry cans ...we would put them in the fire just to wash dishes and make oatmeal in the mornings....good times!!!
The biggest challenge is keeping the water from freezing. We normally have a campfire at night but at those temps we let the scouts keep a fire going all day to have a source of heat.
South Louisiana here too and we got ours back in January at Avondale when it got down to 27 just long enough to count for Polar Bear. Doesn't happen often but we made it! Then we went camping two weeks ago in 100 degree heat and got Solar Bear. :-)
We made spaghetti with boiling water and step away from the fire to eat and your spaghetti was cold in three minutes . Had a spring camporee that was 18 both nights and bare chested OA dancers ....didn't take long to do Tap outs of new OA members .
There is a Troop of young ladies that uses the same facility but they meet on different nights and we never cross paths except for high adventure trips like Sea Base. Everyone pretty much knows each other from school tho.
Greetings from Finland! Here this what its like in the beginning of winter!
We don't see temperatures that low here in the Southern part of the U.S. very often. You must be used to it.
I enjoyed your video .
Thank you, hope you enjoy some of my other videos too.
Oh....Georgia... That explains a lot. Greetings from an old Yooper.
LOL! yes that's cold for us.

Wow, -12 ain't no joke. Bet the Scouts learned a lot on that one.
Reminds me of trekking Mt. Mitchell , NC in snow with the Boy Scouts about 48 years ago. We called it "Polar Bearing". Great video !
#TROOP53
Salute!
I’m still cold from watching that! Got a hankering for some biscuits and gravy too. Great video as always!
Thanks Joey!
Great video!!
Thanks!
I guess in CA 15 is cold...well done lads.

Don't see many Jerry cans anymore, lots of plastic but boy they were tough. Thanks for watching.
Dang camping at that temperature must be hard! 15 degrees was how cold it was the first day of winter here in Luxembourg :)

Brave kids
Indeed. Thanks
ive camped at -10 but wind chill made it -20. Very hard, half of my patrol left becuase the first night was too cold.
-10? Wow, you must have some good cold weather gear.
In South Louisiana we didn’t get many chances to get our Polar Bear badge, but we finally got it!
Congrats on the Polar Bear badge! Hard to do that far south.

@@ashxf Solar Bear must have been after my time. I miss going to Camp Avondale. :(
Baton Rouge Troop 3! Woohoo! 1985 Eagle.
@@CreachterZ Baton Rouge, Troop 136 and Troop 1136!
About to camp in 9° weather. Thanks.
Hope it goes well! That's pretty dng cold.
cold, wet shoes for sleeping..so much for "Be Prepared"
Don't know what makes you think someone slept in wet shoes but thanks for watching.
Idk any scout leader that would let a scout sleep in wet anything at those temps

Whew, bet those taps were quick. You're right good memories last a lifetime.
We came in with 2 feet of snow. we had to dig out places for tents, trailer, cooking, etc.
Living in the south I've never even seen 2ft of snow. That's pretty serious camping.
I have been backpacking in weather in where it drops below 32 at night
Below 32 is cold especially if a little wind and humidity come along with it. Thanks for watching.
The best badge I got was the ice cold two nights below freezing
I know you earned that one for sure. Thanks for watching.
Looks fun! Are you a scout or a leader?
Thanks for watching, I'm a Leader, Assistant Scoutmaster.
Do you guys only have boys or do you have a girl troop attached to your troop?.
