I'm a drummer and learned guitar so I could lay down riffs to play over during my daily drum sessions I got into the Evh amps bc my all time fav band Gojira uses the vintage white 95 Evh heads driving multiple 4x12 Evh cabs And when I first heard that MASSIVE Gojira tone I just about sold my soul for a half stack lol ✌️🤘🧐
I love the video, your riffing kicks some serious ass!! I have a Triple XXX and the rhythm channel gain has the exact same "boost" effect to the lead as the 5150iii does. I've never heard of it as intentional, but does come in handy for shaping my tone just right if I'm only using the lead channel.
that demo track was absolutely fucking KILLER!!!. Alot of your guitar demos are amazing.Have you never had anyone add vocals and get a full song going???? Needs doing dude,
First real amp I’ve owned is a 50w stealth. Made me realize I used to fight my settings to get a good tone, whereas now it’s like being cradled and lovingly shown the way. I love this amp so much. Even sounds clear on a 7 string in drop F#.
@@GeorgeZimmermen everything you just said, except that it's made in China, is wrong lol. It's full tube, even the little one, the same price as the prs archon, and has more features than most of its affordable competition. I would implore you to plug into one, there's a reason black dahlia murder use them.
@@nickalderman5943 I have played one before. Nobody “needs” this amp as you say. It’s an entry level amp meant for beginners and kids who can’t afford a real 5150.
According to EVH themselves, the preamp section is hybrid (a mix of tube and solid state) so although it's not half tube as a whole, it's definitely not al-tube.l@@nickalderman5943
used to own, rehearse and gig with this amp. not a fan to be honest, here's why: 1) channel 1 (clean) is useless / sucks 2) channel 3 (red) gets easily over-saturated, and doesn't cut very well in a live band situation. but is incredible for re-amping solos, to be honest 3) the taper / range of some of the pots is all around the place, this is mostly true for resonance / presence 4) heavy AF, and stupidly oversized I ended up playing the 2nd (blue) channel with more gain and a tube screamer up front. that gave me a kickass rhythm sound, but couldn't use the blue channel for crunch anymore, as the set gain was too much, even when turning off the TS I got fed up with this and got a Peavey Invective for cheap. If you know how to dial that amp, it's a holy grail, all channels are usable, and has an on-board TS and Noisegate, and some more features.
I wasn't a believer until I bought one myself, now it intimidated all my other high gainers and made them sit in a corner 🤣 Great rundown of the 5150 series and the stealth!
I love my 50 watt Stealth. It's a better amp in some ways than the 100-watt, although the 100-watt head is thicker and beefier overall. Both are awesome in their own ways.
For playing live the 50w version annihilates the 100w in any way conceivable, it's tighter, cuts better, has got the midi capacities and is a lot lighter and smaller. I've toured and recorded with mine for years and I never wished I got the 100w, the opener on one of my bands last tour uses 2 100w ones and it reminded me the 50w is just 100x better ahah
@the_hippykiller22 , I never understood why anyone would prefer touring with the 100-watt rather than the improved 50-watt. I always looked at the 100-watt as a studio beast. My personal 50-watt has been perfect for me. Great "modern" tone, plenty of output, and easy to dial in.
The 6l6 Stealth is honestly my favorite of the 3 models, makes sense it's the one with arguably the most gain. I've played all the 50 watt models and the OG is my least favorite 5150 model, it all around just didn't have any of the aggression I wanted in a 5150 and the cleans sounded thin and weak to me. The stealths are just thick and beefy in all the right ways with a solid clean channel. But man nothing beats boosting that blue channel in Drop C and getting some just chunky metalcore tones, and when I'm feeling frisky I'll boost the red channel with the gain at noon for the FATTEST high gain tones ever. Both the el34 and 6l6 do that well but I tend to lean more towards the 6l6 for some reason. I'm still a bit more into the Peavey voicing, the 6505 and Iconic are my favorites for that reason, but that 6l6 stealth is a close third and will complete my 5150 trinity. I will say it's interesting you talked about the stealth not having much middle ground between low and high gain tones and I fell the iconic is the same way, that's actually the big thing I give to the Peavey amps. Those Peaveys get way more breakup on the clean channel and that crunch channel just thick and punchy but not too modern sounding, I keep a 6505mh around for that reason even though I have an Iconic.
The EL34 version has a WAY different blue channel, unlike any other 5150, it’s more flubby and saggy like a Marshall would be. There’s a mod I did to mine where you basically snip a capacitor and it brings the character of the blue channel closer to the red. I’ve since sold the EL34 (great amp though), I still have a Stealth 50W head. The Stealth has a thwack to palm-muted chuggs that the other heads don’t, it’s just a metal beast through and through. But I mainly just use the green channel these days with pedals when I do plug into it, I’m more in a Bonamassa blues-rock mode these days. Don’t play metal much anymore.
I absolutely love mine, but the size and not having MIDI switching capability are kind of a bummer. Other than those two things, best amp I've ever owned. Covers all of the things that I need it for and it's super easy to dial in a great tone.
I had the 100w stealth and got rid of it for that reason and went with the 50w stealth. Effectively does the same thing ultimately, and has MIDI. Absolutely ridiculous that the 100w at 2600 dollars has no option for outboard channel switching and you’re forced to used the stock footswitch. Yet its 50w little brother is more flexible and costs about half the price or less.
I have a 5150ii and believe it or not it’s pretty versatile especially with an O/D in front. I’m very satisfied with what I can do with it. It has the matching cab as well so maybe that’s why it sounds good but I can get death metal to AC/DC to clean rockabilly stuff. It’s not fender by any means but it’s a pretty warm clean for the amp it is.
I just got a el34 stealth and it’ll nail those hot rodded Marshall tones no problem. What I like to do is set the gain to your “maximum” that you like and then use the volume on your guitar to back it down a few notches to get it right where you want it. And if you want to go back to balls to the wall just roll the volume back up 🤘🏻
Had the 50w V2 5150 III and couldn't get enough thicknesses from it with resonance and bass maxxed. Sold it, got the Stealth 100w, and it's the beast i thought the 50w was supposed to be. They're definitely different, and the 50's lack the frequency range, bass and overall sound qualities the 100's have. They're not just higher wattage amps.
Just picked one of these up the other day from one of my local music shops at a crazy deal as an upgrade from the 50 watt EL34 and I dont think i'm ever going to buy another amp again
I also wanted the el34 cause im a fan of el34 distortion but have plenty of amps for that so I went with the Stealth 50s cause its super brutal and I've been wanting a brutal amp for the modern metal stuff i chug every now and then, great video 🤘🏼
First off we don't worry about that focus issue the amp was clearly in frame and Crystal clear. And secondly this amp absolutely slaps, recently got the 50 w 6l6 stealth and I'm absolutely blown away by the boatloads of game that arrived in my home 🏠 not sure about my neighbors, although they're deaf now so it doesn't matter 😂
I have the EL34 version but I like the Stealth a little better... my I like red better but the Blue on the stealth is phenomenal and the red is almost as good. When I got mine home and turned it up I don't think I quit smiling for hours...
Had the stealth 100 for years and was really into it…until I decided to buy an older used 6505+. Honestly, I find the peavey better in almsot every way. The evh was too compressed and lacking in mids…and as you said, too much gain. The peavey cuts so much better in a live mix. I sold the evh.
Having owned all 3 versions, I liked the EL34 version the best even though I didn't feel it had less gain than the Stealth and not much more than the OG. Worth mentioning, the EL34 100 watt version has the gain "Easter Egg" like the Stealth. I think I liked the slight "clang" the EL34 version had over the other two but ALL great amps.
Haha I’ve been waiting on this one! I absolutely love these amps. I also absolutely love little shout outs. Haha. I’m about to go listen to the one you said you’d list in the description comparing all 3. Haven’t seen that one yet. In fact I’m unfamiliar with that TH-camr.
I was a Mesa user for 15 years until i plugged into an EVH about 6 years ago. Sold the Mesas and moved on to EVHs and never looked back. Except the cabs. I went back to Mesa cabs. The EVH cabs are meh. The Stealth 50w has been my go to for the last 3 years now. I also like to ABY it with a Peavey 5150 block letter. Ungodly amazing tone.
try maxing out crunch channel gain and adjust lead channel gain to taste . for some reason both gain controls work for the lead channel… which is why i sold mine. also too big heavy and controls knobs on the rear are annoying
Do you think there is a huge difference with the EL-34s? Seems like those Fender cleans are probably coming from the 6L6's. Not that you would buy it for the clean tones, but still.
I own a 50w regular 6l6 and this amp specifically has ruined all the others for me. Whether it be in studio or touring I just can't find a single other amp on the planet I like more the sound of even when doing blind tests. It's tight, precise but also has a nice low end, cuts the mix but doesn't get too fizzy like say an EL34 5150III or a Victory Kraken and is more defined than the 100w version especially the Stealth while having world ending levels of gain too if needed. It's just the closest thing to perfection I've found, even the cleans are nice. Also it's not too heavy and big and has the midi switching feature which is an absolute game changer with my HX FX. I like the other variations of the 5150III too but this one just does it for me. Every time I try a different amp I just think it lacks something and I come back to this one. It's almost frustrating cause this is a very common amp so it could be argued that it makes your tone lack a bit of personality but everytime I try to diverge from it I just end up being unhappy, so I just stay with it and practice instead lol. I do use the blue channel with a tubescreamer for rhythm and the red channel with no boost for solos though as many people do.
I had one, it wasn't my favorite. I like my 6505+ better, sold the evh and bought a 6505 II. Side note, the standby switch in the back was a pain in the ass. I agree with others, it gets buried in a live band mix. I play downtuned modern death metal.
I thought you had an evh iconic head a few years back? Even with people saying it isn't the real thing it is very close other than missing the blue channel and having a solid state clean boost
Hunter, my man, I love your content. But please, for the sake of the children, you MUST clean off the dust between your pickups. I get it, you are a father, an entrepreneur, a man of the world! You may not have the time for such trivial pursuits. Please feel free to send me your guitars. I'll clean those right up for you! And I'm pretty sure I'd send them back...yeah...pretty sure!
TBH I prefer the EL34 version, and that also goes for the 6505+ as well (technically that was the 6534+). Bring Me The Horizon's Lee Malia used 6534+ amps from "This Is What The Edge Of Your Seat Was Made For..." all the way up to Sempiternal, IIRC, and it was only after that he switched. Both guitarists from Gojira use Stealth 5150 III EL34 amps. I'd have to say those two are probably the closest to being actual competition for the current top spot of the "my favorite lead guitar amp" contest, which is currently a tie between the Orange OR30/Orange Rockerverb 50, and Laney Ironheart. The EL34 variants of the 5150/6505 amps are a happy medium between the sound of my favorite British amps and the classic 5150 sound.
I had a 50w 2x12 evh el34 head & cabinet....I've never played an amp with so much power.... seriously it's unreal... in my little local band I couldn't even use it because it's just too loud...ended up selling it... but it's an awesome amp & if I ever go on tour selling out arenas I'll get another one😂😂😂
The vintage spec green backs in that cab are way more efficient than something like a v30. That 2x12 is pumping about as much sound pressure as a 4x12 v30. The evh reissue greenback 4x12 pushes more than a v30 full stack. It is a mistake to buy one for almost any application short of stadium gigs.
@@zanzabar4ky7Totally inaccurate. The 2x12 comes with G12H-30s, which are 100 db just like V30s. The 4x12 comes with the EVH greenbacks, which are a 20 watt speaker that is relatively inefficient at 98 db.
I have the LBX version of this, but I really want the 50W or just an Iconic which doesn’t compare honestly. Gonna be a while though because I just got me one of the new Jackson Soloists and cash is a tad low.
haha barely. On "vacation" with my two-year old. We've been visiting my grandparents so they can meet their great-granddaughter. It's amazingly wholesome, but all this traveling with a toddler is a lot for everyone 😂
If you find that one too gainy you might prefer the OG. Red is still absurd but blue is more manageable. You do need a boost to push OG blue into brutal chugs territory though, which I actually prefer - its nice to have control over that. Ps - great demo song.
So check this out. I believe the stealth has a hidden feature. Apperantly you can control extra gain on the blue channel when the red channel is active. Like a boost pedal. Try it and look it up :) I think it may surprise you lol. EDIT: just got to the part where you found it. It is a stealth only hidden feature. I believe Eddie himself stated this
These are super fun amps to play. I’ve owned nicer and more expensive amps that aren’t as “fun” to play if that makes sense. Having a ton of gain and compression is fun to just sit and chug with. When I bought a Stealth I sat at home with a big grin on my face just turning the gain knob up and up and up.
Agu is doing us dirty!! I'm ready to buy them since last year's Q3 when it was supposed to be released on Q4!! He said Q4, I'm afraid it will be 2024 Q4 😂😂
I find it curious that the musicians who have the most guitars and equipment are the ones who use them the least and those who do not make the slightest effort to make their own music, which should be the main goal of anyone who learns to play a musical instrument.
Here’s a crazy thought, if you’re getting too much gain on this amp, TURN DOWN THE GAIN KNOB. Ridiculous to complain about a feature that can be adjusted to any amount you want. This amp is the best I’ve ever had or played…the only amp I need.
Yep 6l6 stealth is most aggressive and the most crushing. the el34 stealth is the darkest and punchiest and has the best palm mutes. The original is the fattest and has the most depth and warmth. This is all channel 3 / red. Channel 2 is another story entirely, el34 has the best channel 2 hands down. Original is too gutless and the stealth is basically another high gain lead channel. El34 stealth green channel can do both crunch and metal really well. Can't pick a winner still really depends what's most important to you... \m/

try maxing out crunch channel gain and adjust lead channel gain to taste . for some reason both gain controls work for the lead channel… which is why i sold mine. also too big heavy and controls knobs on the rear are annoying
4:45 .........that dust on the top of the pickup reeeeeeally bothered me haha
Do you think there is a huge difference with the EL-34s? Seems like those Fender cleans are probably coming from the 6L6's. Not that you would buy it for the clean tones, but still.
Running a 50w stealth 6L6 through a Mesa 2x12, sounds killer on both the blue and red channel.
You want him to remove the dust and risk sabotaging his toan? :o
The EL34 variants of the 5150/6505 amps are a happy medium between the sound of my favorite British amps and the classic 5150 sound.
i like that the focus is on the amp lol
The lights go down, the glasses come off, the gain goes up, volume at 11: Commence riffing!
Agufish, It’s time for the 100W Dual Dark amp to make an appearance on your channel. Seeing as a LTD edition is about to surface!
That’s a really good song you at the start. I found myself legit rocking our
I wouldn't mind having an iconic combo if I could justify a 5150 stealth both money and space, id do it along with a half dozen other amps
Clapton and Collective Soul? You spoil us!!
I f*** love the Trivium and BFMV riffs there... just 2000's metalcore
Random question, where did you get your shelf from, do you have a link? It looks perfect for what I'm looking for!
The demo song really gives me Oh, Sleeper vibes
I have the LBX version of this, but I really want the 50W or just an Iconic which doesn’t compare honestly.
Gonna be a while though because I just got me one of the new Jackson Soloists and cash is a tad low.
Ur alive !
haha barely.
Welcome to the club my friend!
I believe Eddie himself stated this
I have the original 5150iii and 05+. The 50iii is killer.
Anything i run thru the effects loop is soooo noisy. Not sure if i have a microphonic tube or its just that noisy.
I’ve owned all 3 versions of the 50 watt, I loved all of them but I must say I think the EL34 is the king
Hunter, have you had a chance to try out the Peavey Invective yet?
Soooo um when are the new signature guitars being released???!!!
Agu is doing us dirty!!
I'm ready to buy them since last year's Q3 when it was supposed to be released on Q4!!
He said Q4, I'm afraid it will be 2024 Q4 😂😂
Stealth is the the last amp you’ll ever need. You should have went with the 50w tho
Nah, I reckon 6L6 all the way.
I have a Triamp Mk 2 and I run 6L6’s sounds fantastic.
I bought the black and gold one 50 watt marshall still crushed it sent it back
EL34 versions (50w and 100w) are still my favorites
Wait a minute, is the lead channel on that amp basically just a boosted version of the rhythm channel?
voiced the same, but more gain. not a boost per se, but a bit more compression
Its crazy you have the REVV generator on your back wall and can get hyped for an EVH
i want an EVH amp so bad
Badass amp brother..but you gotta play it with a wolfgang
Bro!!!! Gotta get the Gold EL34 model!!
Right? This one needs a friend lol
The thing with the gain bleed from one to two is called the "easter egg".
I find it curious that the musicians who have the most guitars and equipment are the ones who use them the least and those who do not make the slightest effort to make their own music, which should be the main goal of anyone who learns to play a musical instrument.
I miss the the weekly content. Hurry up and raise that baby well, and plz get back to it soon.
I had three of them… loved them hated them, then decided it was too much in any situation, too much gain, too much compressed
Here’s a crazy thought, if you’re getting too much gain on this amp, TURN DOWN THE GAIN KNOB. Ridiculous to complain about a feature that can be adjusted to any amount you want. This amp is the best I’ve ever had or played…the only amp I need.
Here’s a crazy thought…you’re fem and your comments are cringe. STFU.
The collective soul riff made this for me
I see a goldie I hit the like button. It's my one rule.
The icon has noise gate and more gain
Yep 6l6 stealth is most aggressive and the most crushing. the el34 stealth is the darkest and punchiest and has the best palm mutes. The original is the fattest and has the most depth and warmth. This is all channel 3 / red. Channel 2 is another story entirely, el34 has the best channel 2 hands down. Original is too gutless and the stealth is basically another high gain lead channel. El34 stealth green channel can do both crunch and metal really well. Can't pick a winner still really depends what's most important to you... \m/
This is my only amp for a reason…everything else I’ve tried, including the Stealth 50w, just sucks compared to it.
Please compare the 100w Stealth to the Butterslax 100w Friedman.
Which is funny because Eddie is known to have played more clean over time
You need a lot of gain for thick pinch harmonics that Eddie packs in every riff
The 6L6 Stealth sounds thicker than the EL34 version.
I feel bad for the dog 😂😂😂
