      Unless she the teenager saw it online for like 50 bucks or whatever she had saved up, and ordered it without telling her parent(s). Teenagers do crazy things...says the girl who bought cheap hair dye without telling anyone to "go blonde" and ended up with patches of pink hair. (See, that's how I know teenagers do dumb stuff.).

    • @Orumtbh
      @Orumtbh 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +25

      A lot of these people are young and/or have just never actually spent money properly buying clothes. They're not actively looking at content creators like Monde, who repetitively teaches us why you need to pay for quality.
      It doesn't help that nowadays paying more =/= better quality, a lot of the ridiculously popular brands that market themselves hard overcharge for what they produce. It's probably more common for them to have over-payed for something, and decided "well if spending more doesn't yield me better quality, I might as well keep buying from Shein/Temu."
      Which results with them surrounding theirselves in cheap cheap clothing. Flimsy materials, poor stitches, no skill behind it. They have no way to actually assess quality, because they've never actually compared between a properly made 20$ shirt and the bad 5$ ones they get from the mail.
      They normalize the cost of 5$, they're incapable of the logical conclusion that it makes no sense for a shirt to be 5$. So when teenage girls actually go shopping for clothes, for dresses, something that actually requires great skill to make, the first thing they'll end up considering is the price. And if a shirt costs 5$, then a dress costing 300$ seems like the epitome of big spending to them. They directly correlate cost for result, but not understanding that the cost of actual craftsmanship is way above their paygrade & that what they're paying for clothes normally is not normal.

      Great point -- the difference in the skirt she got and the one she ordered was that the one she got, she could dance in. And, unfortunately, the "illusion" in the dress is the color shown in the ad -- but the girl's skin isn't the same color. I'm very, very white, and I can't wear dresses with illusion because it's always darker than my skin.

    I also want to point out that even if the price seems to reflect the value of the dress, it could still be a scam. There is a video i saw where a woman ordered something for close to $1,000 and it seemed like it would be right, but nope! It was a scam. So you aren't automatically safe just because the price is expensive or seems to match the product. Please be careful

      This👆! Even if the store doesn't have exactly what you like and you end up ordering online, you at least know what realistic prices for a well-made dress look like. Anything more than 20% cheaper than that is most likely a scam. If you're set on a specific brand/designer, shop directly with them. If they're out of your budget, try a trift-store or reputable re-seller. Otherwise adjust your expectations.

    Hit send before I was done 🙄
    I’ve had people contact me telling me their prom, party, wedding etc is about a week away & the £3.99 tiara they ordered looks cr** but they think I can fix something made of cast metal and…they expect me to make something like they wanted (usually designer) for the same price. Don’t get me wrong I do give things away and I teach free workshops for good causes, but I can’t stand rude entitled brats…usually the adults. I don’t teach children very often I was a teacher, but I still have friends who do and my partner does, come prom season in the uk I get messages from people saying a child at their school hasn’t got something pretty for their hair or a child is coming with their mum & would like to give her a wrist corsage, no a problem at all. Doesn’t take me long, I have the things I need and I’m happy to do it free to make a child happy 😁

    That dress was a little closer than some, we can give it that. I noticed that the seam that is around the knee on the model was about six inches higher on the young lady. Also the appliques that should have ran from just below the waist and down over the hip were much higher on her. If the proportions were right instead of being for someone a lot shorter it would have looked even better.
    I was mildly impressed that the skirt actually looked close-ish to the photo, they used enough fabric to get it in the ballpark. A lot of these cheap dress places don't even come close.

It's probably more a case of expectations gone wrong, not checking the mesh color and of course wondering how in the world you would get the bottom of the dress to stay like in the shot. And here is a serious question: If you wanted that look, how would you achieve it? Underskirts, stiff material, not moving all evening? Any ideas?

    I spent over $300 on my mother of the bride dress and then had the shop alter it for maybe $100 more. I had bought a dress 4 months before the wedding but had gained some weight and it couldn’t be let out. Fortunately the shop was able to help me. I could have gotten a dress online but I didn’t want this to happen. I knew that going the route I did was the best decision for me. I’m glad I did so that I had a dress that fit and looked nice for my daughter’s special day. I prefer to go to a local tailor but he wasn’t able to help me because there wasn’t enough fabric to let the dress out or time to find fabric to work magic. He wasn’t offering me that option as you do for your clients. The bridal shop helped me to choose a dress that was actually more flattering and knew exactly what to do to make it look nice.

    Amongst other things I make jewellery and tiaras, if I make 2 almost exact copies of 1 using glass crystal bicones it will look great, but if I use Swarovski brand it can be 10 times the price. An expert could tell the difference, most people can’t.
    I say almost exact because they’re handmade, I’m not a robot to make exact copies.
    But people still expect Swarovski beads, not matter how many times I explain it 🙄 they think I’m making more money off it, my labour cost is the same no matter I’m using. Thankfully I work for myself so rude customers aren’t welcome.

    I live in a community where there are tons of quinceañeras, and proms and weddings are taken very seriously. If you tour the formal wear shops, the dresses are nice, but the designs are fairly simple and traditional. You can see how making them and customizing them wouldn't be so difficult or time-consuming, and so the prices aren't prohibitive. Anyone who wants a dress that fits like a second skin, the way the advertised design does here, needs to be realistic about how the maker could construct it without you being in the room and enduring a thousand fittings, and even then, it probably would be sewn and pinned onto the model for a show. Nobody should expect to get something for nothing, but why do these sites even pretend to be able to make a dress that looks like anything but a badly homemade Halloween costume?

    Maybe an unpopular opinion but when trying to do affordable dress shopping, your best bet is Amazon. The sellers are often held to certain standards and will face serious consequences from the Amazon team for fraud. From my experience the material quality often is much better than expected and I always try to choose something with reviews that have pictures (even if it's 5 reviews on the item). Plus the dresses are good enough to be easily modified. I had a couple of events back to back for the last few years and I have to say that I haven't really had a terrible experience with any dress I bought off of Amazon.

      I dunno, I don't even feel that bad. I mean, people seem to think that by paying beer prices they will get Dom Perignon products. Sorry but that is on you.

    Worse things in life beside a less than perfect prom dress. Wait til ur 30, 40 see then,, she can sell that to someone who s fitting the mesh, dress is WEARABLE.

    Did she not notice how the dress fit the mannequin? It's fitted to look good, but not necessarily on an actual person. It is what it is. She looks amazing in her new prom dress.

      @MrsBrit1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It's not just fitting the mannequin to look good, that site is 100% using images from another site for a dress They cheaply ripped off the style of (very, very poorly!). It's dishonest sales tactics.

    a) expecting the illusion mesh to be her shade was unfortunately more than a little optimistic
    b) the booty doesnt come with the dress

    question would that mesh even look good on anyone in the way its being used? is it skin color or would that mesh just not work at all ? ive seen some mesh have the invisible look and it didnt have that color, even for a white person. i feel like it would look bad on everyone. but im not a seamstress, so i dont know. am i wrong ? could that mesh look nice on someone for the invisible look?

    it needed to be pulled down. the tight part just above the knees like the pic. that net was the wrong color. i guess it's still one color for everyone in this day and age? come on dress manufacturers!

    Those fake prom dress sites are out there straight up exploiting kids. It makes me so glad my prom era was way back in the time before online shopping. I was definitely sheltered enough back then to fall for something like this. 😬
