Oh my goodness I love love love this dress, I have never made any clothes but this is exactly what I'd like to make .... I'm a plus size woman I think this is very flattering ... Thank you so much 💘
I haven't finished watching this yet but I'm sure your finished dress is going to be gorgeous! Your sewing skills are goals and I'm amazed at your ability to Feanken-pattern and make it fit so beautifully. I didn't notice the doubled daisies until you pointed it out, and the puffy sleeves totally drew my eyes away and I didn't notice it unless I was specifically looking, which is weird, because bust points. So anyone who notices on their own is just telling you they're a weirdo bust watcher. 😄 Also, I hope that by finishing your summer dress you force the weather to cooperate and give us some desperately needed rain. On that note, I plomise I'll wash my car this week. It can't hurt, right? The discoloration on the fabric reminds me of what I sometimes see on fabrics when my washer is a jerk and doesn't fully rinse everything out. I now run every load with an extra rinse because my sensitive skin hates being itchy and I notice a lot fewer spots on my jeans and darker fabrics. Hope that helps! Edited because the finished dress is so beautiful and it looks so good on you!
I LOVE THIS!!! And the skirt on it!!!! As Miss MonMon says, "because full skirts are everything in life." Now, all you need are a hundred more in all the colors and styles. Bravo!
Checking out the artist that inspired this dress, you have definitely improved on the original. It's a fabulous dress that makes sense as an easy and fun to wear summer outfit.
I love it. The footage of you running down the path reminded me of a concert I went to many years ago. One of Bette Midler's back up dancers had a body just like you and me. She was a hot, energetic, talented, plus-sized dancer. Hurray for you and Bette and her dancer, for being out there squashing stereo types!! I hope your rehearsals are going great. It can't be easy going from sick bed to stage.
I'd rather add the 12 missing ones in, than pick all the others out! Or are you talking about the ones on the bust point? I think it would leave major scarring to take them out (embroidered things usually do, since the needle has punched so many holes).
I made my daughter a dress with that material …the daisies were on blue light blue back ground. A few of them were missing their centers. I just embroidered them on. Others were missing their white petals also got embroidered. I was not happy with that but it was fixable.
Beautiful job! I also prefer higher necklines so my camisole doesn’t show- it’s nice to see how to alter patterns to fit that. I love how you Frankenstein patterns together, too- it inspires me to think outside the box.
This dress came out so well!!! It is a perfect summer-to-fall transition piece! I think your extra side-bust armscye fabric could be because you need to do a full bust adjustment. The big pattern houses fit their patterns to a B cup-can you believe??
Really recommend the Selkie-dress (Batsheva started the trend 4+ years ago) trend as something to go for no matter if you are the type to buy or sew! I wear a very utilitarian form of cottagecore/history-bounding and was worried the princessy-dress trend would be too much for me but I finally saw my "perfect-for-me" selkie-style dress and picked it up. It's really been a game changer to have one; I didn't know what I was missing and I feel like I have a piece of fashion history; this trend really took off because of what's happened over the past few years and I think it's very representative of a snapshot of time (like a flapper dress, a poodle skirt, a disco jumpsuit).
I hadn't thought of it that way, but I think you're totally right. Selkie is a great combination of cottagecore and princesscore, which I agree are kind of the two biggest trends to represent the "pandemic-era"
I'm always amazed at the pleasure you show in your finished garment. Such satisfaction is hard come by sometimes. Have you watched Evelyn Wood's video on How to read the wrinkles? Very helpful. I'm really glad to worked out it was the back bodice that needed adjustment, not the front.
Oooh! This wrinkle-reading video sounds like something I need to look up because I have no idea what I'm doing when I'm trying to make things fit better. Thanks for the tip!
Another, beautiful, well fitted dress. I have plans to make something similar for my wife for Christmas, using a Christmas print fabric. Like you, she can get away without using a zipper on most of her loose fitting dresses, which makes the sewing so much easier. (I hate doing zippers) So glad the stains washed out. I remember just finishing a white summer childs dress for my niece and was just doing the final iron when my iron decided to spit out a hugh rusty colour stain right on the front of the skirt.
Awww look at Lion💜💜💜 absolutely gorgeous dress! I absolutely hate when elastic do the wibbely ting, I always throw all of it away since I don't trust it anymore.... About the dirt spots, maybe Dora have been using this as a sleeping spot? Or at lest used it once after being outside, maybe in the rain! And it's probably easy to hand embroider the yellow spots in.
I can't wait for your autumn projects! I found your channel last year through Gunne-Sax-oween, and loved your dresses! I may have to try my own this year.
All your fitting adjustments are GOLD to beginner sewists like me ! I learn so much ! I DO know that you should use half distilled & half tap water in most irons. The mineral deposits may be the issue with staining ???? (Guilty of using water from my Brita filter!)
I’ve heard that the armpit fabric can be dealt with if you do your bust darts differently. How they have to be done depends on your individual body shape, but boobs are dumb like that. I personally have to do two darts, horizontal and perpendicular, even if it’s a off the rack thing I’m buying. Otherwise it just straight up won’t fit okay
If the missing daisy centres were front and centre I'd suggest some dinky buttons or sequins as replacements. That would allow you to make it a feature, not a bug. But since they're on the back of the skirt nobody is going to really notice.
Try opening the seams over the bust before altering anywhere else. If the seams gape, as the wrinkles suggest they will, that means you need to add not subtract fabric. An easy fix. Otherwise just pinch a dart there at the armscye
I still need to pattern last year's 1910s dress! I also always feel weird about the idea of patterning something I cobbled together from commercial patterns - I don't know where the line is drawn for ownership.
@@LadyRebeccaFashions when I was in fashion school it was made clear you only had to change one line to make it "your design". I did think about it before I posted my comment and I think you have changed both of the patterns you used. The neckline in the bodice is the biggest change obviously but it's a circle skirt and a puffy sleeve honestly those are basics that even the pattern companies can't lay claim too. The way you put them together with modifications especially for us bigger girls in my opinion makes it unique.
I haven't tried it with my yellow belt yet, but I really like it with a wide black belt, which is how I've worn it a couple times in the last week or so. I'll have to try yellow too.

awesome as always. I really love the silhouette of this. I wish I could get away with puffy sleeves like this, but my shoulders are just too broad and I end up looking like a linebacker in puff sleeves. not a good look.
I wonder if the shoulders are too wide. I’m still trying to figure out how to make a good fit, and often have similar issues until I narrow the shoulder, but with the sleeves it’s less noticiable. I love the color and pattern.
