  • Felicity is now entirely done! This week, I'm making all of her accessories -- an embroidered muff, embroidered mitts, and a lace trimmed cap, as well as a necklace and adding hooks and eyes to the stomachers. And of course, the final reveal of the completed look!

I’m not a huge American Girl fan, I was an adult when they were popular. That being said I love your enthusiasm. Your dress and accessories turned out amazing.❤️ congrats on the acceptance in the competition.

I love the muff, it's dainty, and looks like a reasonable scale.
Could you put a finger loop on the mitts to keep them from flapping over?
The whole outfit turned out amazing, and your enthusiasm for it is so infectious!

I was rooting for the silk mitts instead of the vinyl. So glad you made that choice. You look absolutely adorable in the ensemble.

Haha, Dora's "i am not amused by tape on my head" face was very amusing. We used to let the horses play withe tape when we undid taped leg wraps, stick it on their nose and they just stand there wiggling their taped nose for five minutes till the tape falls off...keeps 'em busy while you do the other three legs!
I had the same issue with the thumb hole when I tried making some hand warmers, something about how hands are shaped. I now have the appropriate notes on my pattern...
Glad the hooks and bars worked for the stomacher, the ribbon one is really pretty. it's always a bit dicey trying to upsize things from dolls since they're rarely proprtioned anything like an adult human, so congrats on getting that all to look so cute!

You look even cuter than Felicity! I wouldn't be able to keep hooks and bars closed when leaning over, breathing, etc. I would have used heavy duty snaps. I would vote for the ribbon stomacher because it is so unique and so obviously well recreated.

This is so stinking cute! Really love the ribbon stomacher, the muff embroidery reads very similar to the original. Very glad you went with the silk and not the vinyl, it would be so warm and uncomfortable. And Dora is soo cute when she try's to swat the camera❤

Twinning and winning! Looks awesome!! Good luck in the competition!!
You can add a little nude or white elastic loop, that can loop over your middle finger, to keep the triangle point part of the mitt from flipping up. We used to wear accessories like this in dance in the 80s. And we stuck our 3rd fingers through a little elastic loop to make the accessory behave. A lot of figure skating costumes have this too. You can get the gist from those.

This is WONDERFUL! All the planning & occasional frustrations & much, much more were worth it..... easy for me to say!!! I really like the smaller muff as matches her. Much bigger & I believe would block the details of dress & hands. Twill away. 😉☺️

You and Felicity look like twins! I LOVE how your gown came out! It's gorgeous!! 😍🥰😍 Best of LUCK at the cosplay competition!! I hope you win! 🙂 As for keeping the top of your mitts close to your hands, for muff insertion, maybe a loop of ribbon or string elastic on the point that would fit your finger like a ring would help keep them from flipping up. 🙂

Interrupting watching to write. My cat is not the only strange cat that eats tape! My cat stole the entire tape dispenser when I was wrapping presents. Just picked it up by the tape part and waltzed off with it.

I'm sure you already know this, but.... Acrylic paint on cloth can look like leather. If you want a 'slick' finish, put the paint on quite thickly and stretch saran wrap over the top. Dry it cloth side up, and then peel off the saran. If you have any silicon texture stamps (I recommend Iron Orchid) they can be used to give it an appropriate texture. I find this much more comfortable to wear than real leather and a million times better than plastic. But, I live in Texas and it is seldom cool unless the world is encrusted in ice. :)

  • @kylejolley

I don't know if you decide on hooks and bars because I suggested it. But I was just thinking that it would be safer to wear all day and probably easier to put together than pins. I really want to do a Doctor Strange cosplay. I have the pattern and a couple of the accessories. I just need to get all the fabric and trimmings and rest of the accessories.

Based on experience with embroidery on vinyl-you need 2+ layers of stabilizer or the vinyl will stretch and distort.
I make multiple key fobs at a time on mine and anytime I have tried to get away with only one layer of stabilizer it messes up my design.

Would lining the mittens in linen make it feel better? Might make it a bit moisture wicking.
Would a stretchy thin leather work better? And a loop to hold it on your middle finger?

    • @LadyRebeccaFashions
      @LadyRebeccaFashions  ปีที่แล้ว

A thin leather probably would have worked well, but I like how the silk turned out. I don't really think even lining vinyl would have helped much.
