Most Americans don't know much about USA history. And if they do, it is very minimal.
We do hear a lot about : Black, White, Hispanic, Jews, Muslims, Asian, ect... But not too much about Native / Indigenous / First People / who were here on this land before the Europeans people entered this land.

yeah and wtf has they done for this country? the native arrived here 16k years ago. there were here for over 15k years before the european came. and the land is still like a jungle and primal living. the whites and the n word build this country from the ground up. and if the native got killed, well wtf have they been doing for 15k years with absolutely no defense of their land. its natural selection they got wiped out by the more powerful and advanced civilization.

I am from south Asia too and shame on you for supporting white supremacist festival which are have origins in colonialism maybe you are a typical Christian Pakistani whose forefathers are said to have become Christians from low caste Hindu just for 'one bag of rice' from the British government of colonial India that is why even Mahatma Gandhi was forced to call your forefathers "Ricebag converts" because they sold their values and dignity for one rice bag same with their offsprings like you. You have been always like this licking boots of white supremacist and serving them in their agendas. As a muslim I say ban all white supremacist festival like Thanksgiving and deport all Trumph supporters facists back to Europe as they cry alot about non white immigrants coming into American but have no problem with history of genocide and colonization of America by white supremacists ..

If you're going to have the conversation have the conversation. You said the natives helped them a little.
When Europeans made it over the ocean over half had died from scurvy and the rest were barely alive.
Sometimes natives had to board those ships to rescue those men, who only came back for genocide.
The massacres of natives in the United States by Americans might not seem that historic, but they
were northern natives, not the empires of Central and South America, showing gold right away.
The Inca went from over 25 million to under 4 million in five years after Jesuits spread diseases.
The first native genocide in North America happened in Florida. When Americans saw that natives
could not be subdued, despite cutting tendons in their knees and ankles, and would die to escape,
that's when they decided to use their new, ocean-going boats to bring over people from Africa.
I won't desecrate the name of that tribe with this technology.

I am baffled at how people don’t know this. Maybe growing up in a small town in the 90’s, with a diverse population is why we were taught about the tragedies of the Indigenous peoples of the Americas. I can’t recall not knowing that over 96% of ALL the native peoples of ALL the Americas, were exterminated by Europeans. What the *f* ARE they teaching nowadays???

@@Scraggledust If you were as old as I am, watching American television and newspapers from the late 1960s, you would see how strong the disinformation was about pale-skins and natives. I began to work with Mohawk in the 1970s, and they taught me what life, and the Great Spirit was, before they were invaded. There were no diseases for humans in North America, until Jesuit priests brought blankets with Dark Ages diseases for that genocide. There were no wars of blood between natives, and other people, until the tide of war was forced upon them.

@@Shi2232 It might be interesting for you, a good thing, but it only gets worse for me and it hasn't stopped. I live my life, that's for sure, but living could be better for everybody. And please, think about this when you hear "Amazing Grace" on bagpipes. No Scottish person could have wrote that song. It took an English slave trader who, unexpectedly, saw the light of our Savior. He still gets around. Do you know all the inventions that came out of Scotland, including electricity, practical steam power, horsepower and wires? I can tell you, if you asked anyone who came up with a concept about earth or an invention that changed mankind, they will tell you a glowing human-like being appeared to them in the dark when they were in bed, sometimes with a stand and sheet to draw on, sometimes coming back a few times to explain until understood. The gods of India are like that. The artwork makes their skin look blue, but that's symbolic for the blue glow they had. If our eyes are the windows to our soul, why, in the entire New Testament, doesn't it tell you what happened when you looked into the eyes of Jesus of Nazareth? I better stop typing.

Already know this. We discuss the horrors of first contact every thanksgiving. (Known it since elementary, but I was taught by my Father, who told us the truth about Thanksgiving, to always think for myself and never, ever judge someone off of their skin or any difference) There’s no way 🦃 day was “peace and positivity” based on how colonial interactions have gone since the dawn of humankind. It’s greatly annoying to keep hearing “most White Americans”, the “general public, aka white people”, doesn’t want to know. That’s a lie and propagates a vicious cycle of hate, mistrust, & racism. Thanksgiving is a modern invention of ugly history turned pretty. Of WASP’s trying to make themselves seem better then they are. It is a straight up lie thinking I didn’t tell my child the truth because I was born pale. Why are us everyday, general, non-racist, non-biased, non-prejudiced, non-hateful, non-violent, and whom firmly believe in and WORK FOR pro-truth and equity for all no matter ethnicity, beliefs, cultural differences, religious beliefs, etc.-- folks constantly thrown under the bus because of our skin?? If you want truth, stop saying “general public”. It breeds flippancy and disregard. Generalization is never good. Get to the heart of the matter with local, state, and federal authorities who are responsible. Demand equal and equitable teaching not only in education but at home too. Change starts with individuals making change and spreading truth in their homes to then be carried out to the rest of society. “Be the change. . .”

In the old days, in my great grandfather home, we celebrate Thanksgiving as an expression of gratitude for the Harvest.
My great grandfather was a stewards who took care of the land and the land took care of us.
We were taught to give thanks to Mother Earth for delivering of her rich bounty of foodstuff, so we lack not.
Great grandfather taught us to offered to Mother Earth a plate of food from the Harvest table.
We would make a hole in the ground, placing cooked food therein and covering it up, so the Earth could taste her bounty.
In old days at Harvest time we looked out for those who lived nearby that had less.
There where fields to gleam for those widows, the fatherless, orphans and elderly.
We cooked food upon an open fire for the essence to honor the Great Spirit, Nature and the Giver of all life.
This was our giving thanks for the many blessings we had received.
May Nature's God once again bless us as a people.

After watching and reading comments, I'm even more confused. All I know is all holidays get taken out of context and gets more and more away from the truth. The worst is Easter does anyone know what Easter is or is it all about the bunny....SMH. Americans I swear (I'm American too of Mexican descent).

I’m part Native American and celebrate thanksgiving. It’s a beautiful time to show thanks to our Creator for all we have, no matter how much or how little. Native Americans are resilient and grateful people. They are not victims that hold grudges against the ancestors of pilgrims. They’ve intermarried and most only wish to preserve the traditions of old they still have. This “colonizer” mentality is held by mostly white people! They should stop perpetuating division!

As a grandfather, father and son of my ancestors who suffered (and those like my nai nai who survived) the slaughter of my people, in Mystic, Conn. I don't "celebrate" Thanksgiving as I was brainwashed to believe was a celebration of "thanks " for the co-existence between two peoples and its significance in the founding a new nation based on freedom. Alternatively, I learned that it was a holiday that celebrated the violent and hateful genocide of the Pequot nation and other indigenous peoples that resisted the Euro-peon colonizers so-called treaties to steal land that was not theirs to begin with. In all reality, the Euro-peon doctrine of "manifest destiny" was based on a twisted understanding of Yah and their so-called Christianity religion...thereby sailing here by the thousands and turning a once fertile paradise into a bloodbath that decimated the First Indigenous Peoples and Tribes of Yah-ho-wa and followed with the enslavement of the original Hebrews of Judah...otherwise known as the Negroes. History is being revealed and the great revival and awakening of the Original Tribes is in effect...if you, who call yourself "part Native American" feel that way, that's your business but I know MANY indigenous people that don't share your opinion.
