Brad Parscale interviews and presents his facts well. The interviewer controlled his emotions well enough to maintain a discussion but unfortunately came across a whiny. He clearly wasn’t ready to accept that others have a different opinion and the election results were not Facebook’s fault. We’re all adults. We can think for ourselves. The problem is that there are sore, immature people on both sides of this debate. The minute a debate turns emotional, I tune it out. I really wish we could have open conversations where people don’t feel the need to denegrate others just to feel better about themselves. So sad.

It's a weird premise to an argument. Leftists are asking others to stipulate that information in and of itself has the power to compel. That Trump saying/tweeting something forces others to act irrationally/against their own interests. And their solution is to mandate internet blinders. What is wrong with these people

    • @lbft100
      @lbft100 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

mbolduc To be honest, while I disagree with many things that Trump says, I find it hard to understand why it is that he forces anyone to act on anything. There is an inherent instinct to react in the human psyche , but I honestly think that those who don’t react to extreme thoughts and behaviors (on both sides), tend to be able to drive meaningful conversations and solutions. It’s a shame that we have become a society where the loudest squeak gets the attention and energy of the masses.

@@lbft100 I believe that it all comes down to the internet... Everyone, as dumb, or as smart, as they are, has a voice that they can project to literally billions.
For me, growing up (in the late 80's-90's) everyone knew 'those parents' at the elementary school who would freak out about every little detail...
Too much homework! The lunch menu isn't good enough! Teachers aren't treating my special (average) child with enough attention!
Now, those same types of people have the ability to broadcast their thoughts to EVERYONE who is willing to listen to them on the internet. It compounds greatly. They see a little attention/fame from it and then it just blows up even more. The more attention/fame they get, the louder and more frequent their outbursts become. In the past people would roll their eyes and ignore or do what they could to quell the situation. Now others with the same thought process grab onto it and shout louder. It's constantly amplifying until it becomes deafening.
Logic no longer prevails. Group think is KING. It's terrible, and it happens on both sides of the isle.

    • @lbft100

DrunkTerran Fair point. I continue to speak out where I see sheep (again both sides). I have been banned on Twitter feeds because I encourage independent thoughts. I saw many friendships dissolve over the elections on Facebook. Several of my friends banned politics altogether on their FB posts. I can see how this would shape small towns in isolated areas, as well as those who chose to be sheep.
I still maintain that we are evolved enough to think and vote independently.
I should also mention, I both followed and stopped following people that posted without being responsible in their research. I continued to follow all accounts on both sides, as long as their opinions were supported with facts.

I'm a Liberal and I have felt since the 1990s that the news media is extremely problematic and harmful. And around August before the 2016 election I was deeply distressed because I had no mainstream news source that I could trust. The media need to address this, and how they have an inherent conflict in selling outrage to pay the bills vs. trying to inform the populace.
This is nothing new and it's absurd that the reporter seems to really believe that there isn't a problem with news media. Neil Postman wrote "Amusing Ourselves to Death" back in the 1980s. He was deeply critical of the whole business model around news media. It's not a left/right, Dem/GOP issue. It's the business model that demands that news be served up in random tidbits of outrage.
William Grieder published "Who Will Tell the People" in 1992. It contains lots of critique of news media and the shenanigans they pull to get attention and pay the bills. It's undeniable. Completely undeniable.
The news media are like professional wrestling before they finally admitted that it was all choreographed. The news media need to fess up. Admit that they're entertainers.

      Excel On Fire
      Amen.
We look at politics as a sport. The mainstream media is, for some reason, seen by people on the Left as part of their team. I have no idea why they would trust them when they dutifully follow the script written for them by the CIA, Pentagon, and well-connected corporate cronies. But they do. The people on the Right do the same thing with Fox News, ONN, etc. There’s very little independent thought going on out there. Just fans supporting “their team.”
If people on the Left want their concerns addressed-and as a libertarian I actually share many of those concerns-they’re going to have to get over the comfortable idea that the status quo is essentially fine and that it just might need a few tweaks. People on the Right, with whom I also share many concerns, need to do the same.
And that’s why Trump won. It wasn’t because the people who voted for Obama suddenly became evil racists overnight because Trump made them afraid of minorities. It wasn’t because “Russians rigged the election.” It wasn’t even entirely because Hillary Clinton was a terrible candidate who didn’t connect with voters and didn’t listen to her advisors. It was because people are sick of the slick packaged carefully shaped messaging coming from status quo politicians, bureaucrats, and media figures.
Americans are sick of the crap. Everyone needs to believe what they want to believe. Make a passionate honest case for it. Even if we disagree we’ll all learn something. And we might even look at things differently and change our minds. But don’t hide behind smoke and mirrors, tired cliches, and question begging. I’d much rather hear a sincere transparent defense of something I disagree with than be patronized by J-school grads who couldn’t run the fryer at a McDonalds.

Great interview. I enjoy Frontline. I felt there was a little too much presumption on the part of the interviewer about what he would bring to light if he only could reword the same question repeatedly. What I took away was that Parscale is a very intelligent person and performed his role superbly. While I have little hope this interview will change the perception by certain folks clinging to the self-serving delusion that the election was "stolen by the Russians," it certainly reinforced to me that our own media and political tactics did far more than any "bad actors" could have dreamed of accomplishing in confusing the electorate and influencing the outcome of the 2016 election.
btw, Frontline, now do Reddit if you want to see true manipulation.

Half thru the interview tho, he mentions how Trump was trying to reach a certain demographic of people and assure them that he would make the changes needed to better their lives. As someone who lives on in a Republican, rural area of the country, after 4yrs of him in office, there is no difference in my life. Nor did I expect there to be on because that's not how this works.

Let me put this in bigger print...BRAD PARSCALE HANDED THE REPORTER HIS A$$! The reporter should have just came out in the beginning and said, "I hate Trump, I hate anything to do with him, simply because it has to do with him, even if it is a good thing, I still hate Trump" goodness, this reporters bias proved exactly what Brad was saying! Thanks for sharing this though, you made Brad Parscale even more awesome! I mean, he's right..folks get to see his ads for free, why would he get upset? This reporter needs to pick his tail back up glue it back on, and be better prepared the next time he wants to question someone more intelligent than him! Then again, I'm not sure he will recover from this. Maybe..

What is remarkable, is a Leftist platform allowing a strong Conservative voice a substantial opportunity to counter a typical and ubiquitous Leftist narrative.
As a number of us Conservatives so often lament, they (Leftists) can't square off and compete, which is why they so often opt for removing us from the playing field.

Does this reporter understand the concept of a "line of questioning"? He dove back and forth between topics at a breakneck speed, all while positioning his questions is classic liberal journalist "gotcha" formats. The perpetual attempts by the reporter to insert a narrative where the campaign was performing unethical acts to generate attention on Facebook was laughable. He was completely ill-prepared to ask questions of someone who obviously knows his craft. If leftists, coastal elites, and media types can't see what he was doing, its because you don't want to see it.

In journalism school back in the old days you were taught to relate the most pertinent and factual information first and the lesser details followed thereafter and to never have sentences that began with "I" or any other variation of declarative opinion.Sources should be named, never anonymous and if they are not directly related to the subject, should be ignored and left out of the articles completely. No concrete verifiable source. No story. The article should be structured like a triangle. Opinion pieces, editorials and fiction are taught to be written like an inverted triangle. The least important details first, sprinkling in information as you go along to finally come to the point at the end. We live in an era where media "reports" in the inverted biased triangle.
