I always have room to be wrong, but Truckee is a town on SP’s Donner Pass line, and nowhere near any narrow gauge (unless you count the NCNG). The Virginia and Truckee is named after the Truckee River, and they interchanged at Mound House with the Carson and Colorado, which also interchanged with the SP in Owenyo.
Truckee, though, used to have interchange with a little line called the Lake Tahoe Railroad which ran from Truckee to Lake Tahoe and built by the same guy who built the Virginia and Truckee Railroad (small world). The line when first constructed was narrow gauge, later converted to standard gauge and even later being taken over by the SP to become the lake Tahoe branch. The line was abandoned in 1943 and had been ripped out by the Spring of 1944. The Virginia & Truckee, looking at a very old map, did run up to Reno at one point.
This episode derailed faster than the huge Russian 4-14-4 locomotive. Next thing you know, these guys will plant a lime orchard (not to use the limes as food, but rather, weapons).
Hyce if you get a chance come to North Carolina and go to tweetsie railroad. They do something during Halloween where they take there steam locomotive 190 and dress it up to look like a ghost train. I highly recommend you looking it up
Unless I’m mistaken, the C&C terminated in Mound House, not Reno, interchanged with the V&T in Mound House, which then carried passengers and cargo up to Reno, meeting up with the SP. At no point am I aware of the C&C as a stand-alone railroad having owned trackage direct to Reno. Just a little something.
