i got that reel the in the 4/5 i have had it for a few years now and the few fish I got that I had to put on the reel I didn't tighten up drag just enough that it doesn't free wheel I just palmed the spool for a more drag. Its a strong reel smash it into rocks and boulders no problem
I started with echo years ago and still use the base and ion daily even tho I have a few $2000 set up from orvis. Been times that I questioned why I even keep my orvis rods.
Fly fishing gear prices have become ridiculous. Thanks for reviewing this reasonable reel. I wish there had been more low priced but functional equipment when I first started in the ‘70s. Basically we had to wait for a fishing relative to die to get better gear.
Have one of these and the drag held up on it for 3 seasons of creek fishing, still have it and we will see how long it lasts.

That looks very similar to a Shakespeare Sigma and my Shakespeare Sigma is excellent for the price.
If I’m fishing a blob of tinsel, I ain’t going to worry about using a cheap reel
