- This was a great station to visit during the early years when they used this station as terminus station on the virgin crosscountry routes.
The filming of this video was done during early December 2001.
Lovely to see the 47’s. Took them for granted back then as they were so ubiquitous back in my formative years.

At last... me on 47831, my old favourite Bolton Wanderer @ 2:06. The best 47/8 there was, & she's pretty good as 57310 to! Superb video of ye olde days. Excellent 👍🏻

Ten out of ten Mike content,for putting up with the cold to do it ,brush type 4's one of the best ....the sparkies were great too thank you

@@antman09ful1 so much we had on the railway then and before we thought run of the mill and took it all for granted ,we then look back through yours and others vintage ? Filming and our own bits photos and other memberbelia and say yeah I do miss so much .but we still head the linesides and platforms ....cos it's a drug

When I heard these Brush 4s were going to be replaced I did a lot of filming of them. Mike.

Shame I haven't got any footage from that far back Tony, I was there when the Queen opened the station.

Used to work 47 and stock when I was a guard. Oh the noise as they attacked the Lickey. I would sit in the brake van with the door oped positively drooling.....

@@antman09ful1 Hi Mike,yes I did one job we did a run round at Birmingham International with a electric locomotive one I was on it we had class 90 it Regards Phil.
9:15 If I'm not wrong, that's the prototype BR livery! nice catch. I was very sad to find out that it no longer wears that livery, despite it making it into preservation. Nice video, enjoyed very much.

Still in mainline service now with locomotive services 47 853 but with its old number, so should see it about for some years yet.

@@antman09ful1 Indeed, I wasn't implying anything, just I once got booted out of a 47 group for calling them "Duffs" as that was what I was brought up with. I like pretty much anything BR era, I adore 47s, 37s are nice to look at, sound great and are fun to drive, 31s have a nice look and sound etc... :) I can't wait to see what else you've got stashed away :)

We didn't have any choice with the timings we had to keep to! Fantastic old beasts the 47s, and loved driving them.

It has only just occurred to me after all these years of watching trains vids, why/when/how does a driver get a leak?
Freight drivers stopping at red signals using the countryside, others in the toilet of the passenger train I would say. Thanks for comment and for watching the video.

Brighton bourmouth and poole all services have gone along with the 47s and the 47 5 o'clock stopper calling at lea hall and Marston green on its way to either Brighton or Paddington
That is news to me what you have said on this comment, have you any proof that these trains to BI and Paddington stopped at Lea Hall and Marston Green
@@antman09ful1 yeh I will find the old timetable the train waited in Stafford sidings all day then ran Stafford wolves Birmingham new street lea hall Marston green Birmingham international Coventry think it was in 1988 or 89 the service ran to either Paddington or Brighton. we also had a dmu shortage in the 80s and there was an evening loco hauled class 45 3 mk1s ran for about a week from moor street to dorridge calling bordersley green small heath tysley acocks green olton solihull widney mannor dorridge then return rush hour only think a 47 ran last few days I lived in between olton and Marston green so spent me childhood on a 75 p scratch off daytripper also many people don't know why the bridge at the end of dorridge doesn't have arches it because a class 52 ran in to the back of a shunter on the main line killing the driver also the service was supposed to be a blue pullman but a western was brought in late on quite an interesting history we have on our local railways

@@antman09ful1 i don't live local no more but you must no jed if you do ask him about the 47 lea hall Marston green service he was on it most nights winter only timetable sure it was 88 89 its an old school spotter you need to speak with and if you know mad Mark from nuneaton he will give you all the unusual services that ran around the west midlands is best mate was a railway planner around Birmingham i no these guys are still around because I seen them at midlands railway diesel gala last year
If Jed was on them trains you must be right, I have certainly forgot about these services stopping or I didn't know about them matey, thank you for your local history from the Brum area.
What's the diversion that was taking place here?
The WCML was closed and trains were coming through this station.
