As someone who counsels people with severe PTSD, I kind of think that Grogu has this and it affected his choice. He sees the heroism and nobility of Din Djarin and the Mandalorians and the absolute terror and betrayal he suffered while in the care of the Jedi. In many ways he is a broken little guy with trust issues and Din has earned that trust while Luke and the Jedi have not. Just my two cents.

i think anakins "attachment issues" could have been easily solved by getting his mother off of tatooine. just knowing she was safe and living a better life might have been good for anakin. one of his defining moments that pushes him towards the dark side was the abduction and death of his mom by tuskan raiders. it wasn't his attachment that was the problem, it was the fact that his mom was left on a dangerous planet as a slave and he was expected to not care.
quite frankly, the jedi way of doing things is problematic and i'm surprised that more jedi weren't pushed to the dark side because of the jedi rules.
pirates were pirates because the royal navy was a worse and harder life.

The prophecy was not about Anakin, it was about Luke. Anakin was destined to be on the dark side because Luke can learn from his father, and others before him. The Jedi was also doomed to fail because of ignoring/ distancing from "attachments" and being involved in politics. The Jedi is just like the Mandalorian's both use old ways to move forward to the future but both failed. I also think that Luke is not truly the prophecy, someone else who was attached to him is the savior of the both Jedi and dark order. Like yin and yang force; need balance to survive in the Universe.

The whole kidnapping by Tuscan raiders was a set up by Palps to force Anakin to take a massive leap towards the dark. They had no reason to keep her. And why did she die at that exact moment? Adding to his failure, fear, then suffering,

The more I think about it, I think Luke is testing him. I mean, when given the same choice, Luke chose his friends and left Dagobah to go to Bespin. I know he didn't like losing his hand, but I doubt he regretted the choice. When he went back to Dagobah, Yoda said he was done. He passed. A Jedi, you are now. Maybe this the step Grogu has to take.

    • @mattobito
      @mattobito 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

I definitely prefer that direction, but maybe have Luke go with Grogu just to prevent another "disarming" incident by watching from afar or adventuring briefly with Mando while continuing Grogu's training. He's too OP to be a part of Mando's journey, so he couldn't stay long; but it would be a bit irresponsible to test the child like he was in the past without safeguarding him in some way - powerful or not, Grogu is still a toddler and Luke is more physically able to protect him if he gets in too much trouble.

    • @dw13012

I was thinking the same, Luke had a very similar situation and still managed to became master jedi. And grogu lives 10times more than human, so there is no rush. He will become master jedi someday. But my question is does Din Jharen have the force enough to be a jedi? And I would love to see him as mandalorian jedi. I mean his beskar color and design, nabu starfighter. All leads to be dark saber belongs to be Din Jarin. If it's not Din Jarins Din Jharin would have to fight grogu over dark saber so I don't get why people think dark saber will be grogu's and grogu will be mandalorian jedi, Din Jharin and Grogu can never have true fight each other...

I think they're trying to portray the life of a Jedi as not being something easily accomplished. It takes a lifetime to become a Jedi master and even then no one truly stops learning. Luke knows this and would rather let Grogu be free now because he can always come back given his long lifetime. He even spoke about this briefly in one of his conversations with him.

I like to think part of the reason why grogu chose the mandalore armor is due to past experiences. He looks to the lightsaber, and he thinks back to order 66. He sees presumably his old teacher doing his best to defend himself and the younglings with his saber. But eventually the clones overwhelm the jedi with a barage of blaster fire. Then he looks at the armor that Din made for him and thinks back to the countless times when Din charged head on into blater fire to protect him and never so much as falters.

    Luke said it himself...
"A short time for you is a life time for everyone else."
Luke hinted to him it would take years for him to master the force, that if he would choose that path he would never see the Mandalorian again. This was a good piece of information that basically invites him to go on his holiday/adventures with Mando before committing his life to the Jedi ways.
Yoda lived to 900 years. Only a small fraction of that was dedicated to the ways of the Jedi. The other portion remains unknown to lore.

Grogu is still young he has a lot to do to become a good Jedi if not the most powerful Jedi ever. That test unintentionally made grogu realize that there is another way to be good Jedi, having love and family. Personally, Grogu is smarter than Luke. That’s how he will not be killed by Kylo Ren later on. Grogu will also carry the next Jedi in a grey kinda way being Luke could not learn that lesson earlier on. Grogu might tap into the force and be able to learn from Qui Gon and other Jedi who can be force ghosts. Being that Grogu will live so long, he will bring balance the both the mandalorians way of life with solidarity and the Jedi’s lack of attachment into balance. Both the mandalorians and Jedi in a way have lost their way, Grogu will bring balance to them both. Bringing a full circle to the story.

For what it is worth, I believe that the choices between 'the way' of Mandaloins and Jedi philosophy is obvious in the type of military hardware that defines them; the lightsaber is a weapon of offence as well as defence, while Beskar armour is only defensive (The Armourer made the same point regarding the Beskar spear In the previous episode). In choosing the armour, Grogu lessens the risk of being drawn to the Dark Side. As Luke discovered when confronted with Ben Solo, the fear of the Dark Side can lead to mistakes. Grogu's rejection of the Lightsaber shows that Force sensitives can take a different path that does not risk turning to the Dark Side.

in the Legends canon Luke changes a lot of the Jedi's teachings regarding attachments, including families, jobs, possessions and even love, creating a new generation of Jedi who are arguably more relatable to the public and grow in their own way. Ironically his best student was Kyle Katarn, a man with very few of all of those traits.

I would never have thought I would like some sideways attempt at a Star Wars offshoot series. By the time the episode with Mando and Grogo taking that amphibious lady with her eggs to her husbands planet and Grogo kept sneaking her eggs to eat, I was into it. Last episode where Luke comes to the ship and dispatches the dark androids, and Grogo must choose to leave his friend was - if you just let go and enjoyed - it was touching. This seasons late entrance of the little guy showing up in the wagon of that wacky lady to finally see his friend, and using the force to jump into his arms was also touching. I keep hearing Paul Simons ‘Mother And Child Reunion’. Then he must use his newly expanded skills to save the Mandalor friend, and falls asleep next to that giant creature, it was done really well. Kudos to Jon for writing such a good show. The last scene of the kid tapping on the glass to egg his friend on to fly faster, and Mando keeps refusing untill he can’t any more, and finally tells the kid ‘this is the last time’ , throws his hands up like a kid on a fair ride and yells in happiness. A great ending to the season, leaving us wanting more right away.

I was watching this and I got to about 4:37 before I was like so why did Kylo Ren and all the other people get into the Jedi academy then? Luke abandons the old philosophy of the Jedi and follows a new path, which he ultimately believes to be a failure until Rey and Kylo succeed. These Jedi attachment issues and complete non use of emotion is gone by the Luke Skywalker temple, he loves his friends and family severely. Honestly, I love that you are so deep into the story, but you've legit removed everything that is Lukes Jedi Order and turned it upside down.

I feel he may choose the lightsaber, knowing he must learn to protect himself and those he loves, including Din. However, during the training (as Luke felt when he was training with Yoda in Empire), he will have a force vision of Mando in dire trouble during the battle against the Pykes. Like Luke, he will choose to leave his training to assist his friends. But Luke will understand this, having made that same decision before, and accompany Grogu to Tatooine to assist Mando. Plus Luke will not want his home planet to fall into the wrong hands. When all seems lost for Din, Boba, and the others, Luke and Grogu will appear. Bringing friends like Han and Chewie to help, maybe even Lando. Ultimately, I believe Grogu will choose to stay with Mando after the battle, and he will become the first Mandolorian Jedi since Tarre Vizsla.

Grogu could be the first on screen adaptation of Grey Jedis, though one could argue both Anakin and Luke were/are Grey Jedis as they form/formed attachments (familial and romantically) which is against Jedi teaching.

  • @Heartheartrecords
    @Heartheartrecords 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

yep, I feel the whole purpose of Grogu's creation as a character is to help guide the Jedi order to a more whole and grounded one. Refusing Yoda's lightsaber and Lukes teachings will establish him to walk his own unique path, possibly bringing into balance the healthy aspects of attachment. To abandon attachment all together, can cause a gateway to open, leading towards the darkside. From how i would innerstand it, a delicate balance is needed to be recognised. What this means for one individual is different for another. There is no one blanket for all type solution. This gives an organicness to the force and the complexities that lies within. Each force user growing to innerstand their own unique identity in connection to the force, which gives each force user their own unique power.
Ultimately Grogu will always be destined to have a light saber, even if he is written to turn to the darkside. He could also turn and claim the dark saber for dark purposes or light. Be interesting to see which way he is shaped and moulded in the greater Star Wars story.
Also it makes sense if Mando only lives to 90-100, y wouldnt one chose to spend only a fraction of their own life span to spend it with someone that matters a great deal to them...makes a lot of sense. Yet Grogu also has his own destiny to discover which im sure the force itself will have a hand in help guiding to what he's true potential and path is.

I love the direction this is going if the general theory here is correct. Grogu, like yoda, has a way of being the more radiant and memorable character in the Star Wars stories despite playing the supporting role. I also didn’t like the ultimatum Luke gives him, although I do understand why the Jedis put so much emphasis on avoiding emotional attachments, because emotions can be easily broken when something unfortunate happens to a loved one which in turn increases the odds that a Jedi may use the force in a way that leads them to the dark side. Like Luke’s father obviously, but I think that something inherent in Grogu’s species will prevent that. There’s something about them that is endlessly pure and completely in tune with the light side of the force, like a sort of singularity between their soul and the force that can’t be broken and a genetic code that prevents even the slightest possibility of ill-will or “evil”. So I can definitely see Grogu transcending the Jedi tradition of having to forget about those you love in order to stay on the right path. Which will allow him to re-unite with the Mandalorian and still be on the light side. There’s one thing I’d like to add to this theory as far as Yoda’s lightsaber goes, I have a feeling that the mischievous ways that obviously run deep in the DNA of Grogu/Yodas species will play a role in Grogu somehow pulling one over on Luke and taking the lightsaber with him no matter what lol. Because the little guy is super cute and too innocent to have bad intentions I wouldn’t consider it stealing haha, it’s like his fascination with the shiny ball from the Mandalorians ship or when he’s trying to secretly chow down on some amphibious creatures. You just can’t be mad at the little dude for doing what children do, he may be 50 years old but to his kind that’s like the blink of an eye. ;p

There’s a lot of Buddhist allusions with respect to Jedi training. One of the 4 Noble Truths in Buddhism is that our attachments are the cause of our suffering. I also find it cool that Ahsoka’s name is practically identical to Ashoka, India’s greatest Philosopher-King Emperor who was pivotal in spreading Buddhism around Asia and the Middle East. I have a feeling that Grogu picks the Armor. It will be Luke that takes Grogu back to Tatooine. Luke can visit Ben's home, find some lore/items there.
In the depths of conflict on Tatooine, Luke could be sucked into the turf war between Boba & the Pike syndicate (Crimson Dawn) to protect the little one too. Grogu will sense Mando in trouble and rush to save him. It's nice to know that the Star Wars writers are stealing such good quality material.

When I watch these episodes with Luke, Ashoka, and Grogu, I always feel like the reason he ultimately goes back to Din is because Grogu feels the need to protect him. Because let's face it, Din needs Grogu more than Grogu needs Din. On many levels. Grogu knows Din is important to the everyday people of the Galaxy, so he feels obligated to protect him. And I think the only reason he goes with Luke is because a) he knows Din wants to give Grogu the opportunity; and b) Grogu wants the opportunity to unlock some of his training in the service of helping Din do what he needs to do. Whatever that may be. But certainly, Din is already a man of the people. And he is being set up to become a man of many more people than he already is.

Granted that Luke used Anakin's lightsaber as long as he did, but, Obi-Wan was in a hurry to get him trained up as much as he could in order to be able to face Vader. So he would have to skip a lot of traditional padowan training. However, with Luke starting the temple from scratch and Grogu being his first student AND Luke having the books on how to train, I feel Luke would've trained Grogu the old way. But, hey, what do I know. Oh, and not to mention that Ahsoka is there who would've know the old ways as well...... Grogu needs to construct his own saber. The kaiber crystal that chooses Grogu might be blue for all we know. #ilovestarwars since i was 7 years old in 1978!

I'm not sure of Luke's reasoning for his choice, but I actually think him giving grogu this choice was the best option.
I would like to go real in depth with this analysis, but I'm tired and don't wanna be typing for an hour or two.
Basically Anakin lost his mother due to trying to adhere to the order and was too patient.
But he still believed in the order, and probably thought that if he was a higher rank he could have left to save her whenever he wanted. So he didn't entirely blame the order yet.
Remember, at this point he was angry, not evil.
But then for years after, Anakin went above and beyond for the order.
But despite everything he did, despite the lengths he went to serve to order, when he needed them most they short changed him...
For decades he showed them nothing but faith, just for them to throw him bone with an undertone of mistrust.
But at the root of this all, was a kid tied down by the belief that he had to stay for the greater good.
There where multiple mistakes the Jedi made with Anakin that I could get into.
But the starting root of it all was making him believe he didn't have a choice when he always did.
And that's one thing luke is doing better regardless of what he actually intends, is giving grogu a choice.
And the reason he used Yoda's lightsaber is because the chainmail represented the path with the madalorian.
He needed something in contrast to represent the path of the Jedi.

Why choose the Jedi? There's literally nothing for him there. Even Luke admits that it's less of him training Grogu and more Grogu remembering his old training. So he can be a powerful force wielding Mandalorian with no drawbacks at all. There's literally no incentive to be a Jedi, other than to hang out with Luke.

How were the Jedi wrong about attachment when attachment is the exact thing that made Anikan vulnerable to and ultimately seduced by the dark side. Anikan's ego coupled with him being so selfish were his personality traits that Palpatine exploits but his attachment to Padme that sealed his fate. After helping Palpatine kill Mace, Anikan says to Sidious 'I will do whatever you ask, just help me save Padme's life, I can't live without her'. This declaration confirms he was/is willing to do anything, ANYTHING, to avoid the suffering resulting from the loss of his mother. It also illustrates how selfish he is. 'I can't live without her', he says. I. None of what he is doing is for Padme or his unborn child (he doesn't know it's twins) but rather to avoid the pain and suffering. He could have left the Jedi Order at anytime and declared his love for Padme. But because he wants everything but is not willing to sacrifice anything, he chooses the path of dishonesty and deception and that path only leads to rhe dark side. Even if the Jedi were allowed to to have open attachments, his fear of loss would remain and if faced with Padme's impending death, he would still do anything including turning the dark side to save himself from the pain and suffering. In the end it's not the Jedi code but rather Anikan's choice to not adhere to the code that is wrong.

    • @jamesgore7491
