Fun fact: to turn of the seatbelt chime in your car WITHOUT cutting or removing anything, follow these steps. Turn key to “ON” Then fasten and unfasten your seatbelt 20 times in UNDER 30 seconds. Then turn key to “OFF” Wait 10 seconds Turn car on and there you go...no seatbelt chime.

What's that whistling sound? I hear it with the nameless axleback, I hear it on the Tomei Expreme, the Invidia N1, and it's particularly worse with the car deleted J-pipes. Is it the turbo? It's a really undesirable sound, it's what's holding me back from buying an axleback, turboback and cat back. Sounds like those EBay Turbo Whistler things you'd clamp to the exhaust. I've never heard it and I can't stand it. I want loud, yes, but it has to be a perfect resonance too. Is there a way to rid it? Is there a resonator that'll take it out?
Sharod101 You should be fine with a catback without hearing the turbo too much. Stay away from cat less pipe or certain intakes like cone filters that are open. Those will make the turbo sound much more audible. Imo it's a desirable sound because it's the real deal and not a shitty eBay whistler.

My WRX is the first Turbo car I got (and I got it because of how the power comes down in a linear fashion like twin screw superchargers on big block V8s). But I swear I've never heard a chirping whistle like that. I'm thinking of getting the Invidia R400. I've heard the ETS Turboback with intake and that was a pretty mean sound, but I don't want to void the warranty.

I had a question for Subaru owners, do you have to get a tune right after doing any kind of mods? Either to the ej or Fa motor? Reasons being is because on other cars you can usually wait it out a bit before tuning it that way you have a couple more mods on before tuning as it can be quite expensive to turn constantly.
Versaceking This isnt really specific to Subarus... If you make big mods then tuning the car is usually a must. The stock ecu is programmed to work with stock parts, so not tuning typically means either you're not utilizing the mods fully because the ecu isnt allowing you to, or you could possibly be running an unsafe afr and getting pre-detonation because the new parts add to much air or fuel then the stock ecu intends (typically its too much air). Minor mods - intakes, catbacks - dont NEED a tune but its generally preferred. With that being said, a lot of people (regardless of make) will install the mods and get some miles under them before tuning to make sure the parts are installed right. If you go that route just make sure not to wot too much before tuning. A few miles with no tune shouldn't make a huge difference, unless its a bigger turbo or forged internals or something major, then you need to tune it before driving. You dont ever NEED to retune a car after mods, it just depends on if you want to fully utilize those parts and run your engine safely.
Versaceking no tune after even full turboback exhaust is fine... how else do you drive to a tuner?? Even driving hard was fine for my WRX, it only adds a little airflow but exhaust is gas leaving engine so it doesn't change anything.... only issue was a catalytic engine light so yea. For even minor bolt ons while there're other vehicles that wouldn't require a tune for the same mods.

However, unless you have a way to measure your AFR or to see if you are getting any pre detonation then there was really no way to tell you yes it will hurt your engine or no it will not. all cars are different, even those with the same make and model, engine a might need more tuning than engine b after modifications but you really don't know until you hook it up to a tuner.

I live on a dirt road and drive on dirt about 40% of the time. I have open roads around me so believe me I enjoy getting on it a good bit. I'm about the only rede elf you've ever seen with a Subie lol. It goes hunting and trail riding too pretty regularly. I love he car but the truth is it is slow compared to most sports cars as well as previous gen wrx's... 13 seconds is not very exhilarating lol. I do enjoy and but I just want to reach certain landmarks and to me that standard is low 12's and mid 4's. This is my first Subie lol I've always had Chevy so itS a completely different world to me man. I like it but I am a complete noob in the JDM and Subie world. And boost world too actually lol.

Question brother ... has your tomei started to change colour at all. Iv been running a expreme ti on my 15 STI for about 6000km or 3700 miles and it's barely changed colour instead of going purple there's a slight bronze or gold tint to it.

There are PERFORMANCE exhausts that sound amazing without putting you into the asshole stigma category. Also, long road trips are the worst when driving or riding in a super loud car..
Two ways you can go - the easiest installing is a cold air intake to replace the stock airbox. I added a mishimoto cold air intake first thing and it definitely gives you that spool-woosh sound you're looking for in the cabin. You can also add a blow off valve that actually blows off the pressure externally instead of recirculating it - you'll likely get a lot more bang for the buck from a cold air intake however. Added bonus: even for someone like me who's just learning, it's a quick and painless installation. Took me around 2 hours. For someone who knows what the hell they're doing it'd probably take under an hour.
