  • A beautiful puller and hooker, Richie Richardson was part of the great West Indies team of the 1980's and early to mid 1990's.. He also had some quality off side shots, and his 35 ball fifty (he went to make 106) in Adelaide in 1989 was one of the best test innings of the decade.
Today we look at the former West Indian captain's top 50 shots in the land down under!

Richie Richardson walked into arguably the greatest cricket team of all time at the age of 21 and batted first drop behind Desmond Haynes and Gordon Greenidge and in front of the Master Blaster - SS Turbo in hand, that will always be your bat before anyone else’s Richie

I am fortunate to have seen such a tremendous player bat.... What a fabulous player was he!!! Running out of words in the dictionary to describe his skills.

My child hero. I use to model my batting off of his style and bowling like Walsh. As a kid my friends use to call me Skipper since Richie was the captain of WI and it was clear as day as I use emulated him to the best of my ability.

Nice compilation, mate. RR was special, and for some reason always at his best against Australia.

He hit a lot of great shots in Australia. His record in test matches against the Aussies was phenomenal.

What a pleasure to watch. What has happened to West Indies cricket? The current generation, they might have the swagger and the strut, they just can’t play like that golden generation from the mid 70s to mid 90s...

At 2:30, RR hooks Geoff Lawson from OUTSIDE off stump. That ball was going straight at his head. Superb!

He was a little unlucky to play at the same time as Viv Richards and later Brian Lara. By their very nature, those two were always likely to overshadow the other batsmen around them.
The fact is that Richie was a very classy batsman indeed. People tend to forget that he was also a quite outstanding slips fieldsman.
