Thank you so much for your videos! you are amazing bro! i try to find some video of Death Knight like this, i find your video but for 3 years ago, are still playables?
So what is the main reason Arcanist is chosen? Is it primarily boosting your lightning output or is it those short duration shields/nullification? I saw in your tier list you didn't think much of Warder, but I can see what Soldier brings to a 2H melee build where as Arcanist... it doesn't -seem- that helpful, and you invest in it so late it seems like an optional afterthought more than core synergy. I don't see anyone excited about Archon: The idea of converting primal strike into acid damage sounds really cool to me. But I guess this doesn't really work out?
If you only want to play melee, then Warder and Archon are slightly better than Druid, but Druid is much better for ranged. For this build I played melee/ranged depending on situation while leveling and just pure ranged for endgame, which is why I chose Druid. Arcanist offers a decent about of %damage, lot of offensive ability, which is amazing for all the crit damage primal strike and shaman have, and the two best defense skills in the game, nullification and mirror.. So while it does not offer any lightning resistance reduction, it is still my favorite choice for a support class for a primal strike shaman on HC, especially for ranged playstyle. Archon has lightning resistance reduction on guardian's aura now, so it's actually best as lightning primal strike, too. It can also be played as vitality with rotgheist set. Idk about acid, seems to have no gear support.
I AM leveling now shaman soldier build and play primal strike with cool down but 2h melee weapon I use give -1sec to Primal Strike cool down so 2 soldier default attack is nice

Your guides are super cool! Would it be possible for you to create the similar guide with explanations but for Deathknight? As I checked your last videos for like more than a year and found nothing on deathkight.
Been leveling using this build in my first GD playthrough ever and it's been great. Almost too good. Just deletes everything. In the video at the devotion section it's said to take the widow devotion which gives Aether damage bonus but I don't see Aether damage as a source up to this point. Anyone know if I am missing something or is that bonus just being ignored for the other bonuses in the devotion?
@@rektbyprotoss OK that's what I thought. Thanks for response. I notice some gear has a conversion of phys damage to lightning. Is that gear worthwhile or does it not scale well with the build? I'm using crossbow/gun with this.
Hi, thanks to your vid I ve once again started with grim dawn, really great guide. But I have a question, do you use something like lootfilter or autolooten?
I only use the ingame lootfilter, ingame "autoloot materials" option and the ingame "pickup" function that you can assign in keybindings. So no mods at all.
I wanna try this build but with an Elementalist instead since the weapon seems good for both classes. Do you have any recommendations for how to fill out the Demolitionist tree or alter the build?
I love that build, but I am not sure of what endgame set to chase from here ? Also for wep I have Stormreaver which seems to be amazing but not sure if there is anything more suitable
Your opinion on Warlord with 6 Guardians of Empyrion, and all defense soldier skills and defense devotions except flame for guardians. Do you think it can beat HC?
Is there enough support for 6 Guardians for a physical build? I know there is for fire and acid/vitality, but then soldier doesn't seem like the best choice to go with it.
@@rektbyprotoss I use soldier skill tree only for defense, health and healing skills and masteries, only DMG I have are Fire damage Guardians with Fiend (Flame torrent) and Soldiers War cry with Witchblade (Eldritch fire), so I'm decreasing enemy resistance very much. Got to lvl 70 and act 2 for Elite. Very easy and Killing bosses is no problem SO FAR XD.I even managed at lvl 60 normal to kill that celestial boss in Kairn desert although it took me 15 mins and a lot of kitting XD. One question: Are guardians affected by Field command and squad tactics? Thank you.
@@aleksandarbradaric4925 "Are guardians affected by Field command and squad tactics?" They scale with the player's stats, so they will scale with your OA and %damage, BUT they don't scale with your attack speed. Their attack speed can only be increased with items specifically increasing their attack/total speed via a modifier to the guardians.
For this build on HC, only put as much cunning as you need to equip your gun (if you use one) and all other points can go into physique. If you're playing on SC, you can put some points into spirit for more dmg.
So with the new patch changes shifting shot passthrough over to weapon skills, and this going for more of a ranged focus at the endgame, would it make more sense to take something that would let our Primal Strike pierce? Or does that not work because (unlike something like Fire Strike) Primal Strike doesn't count as a default weapon attack?
Primal Strike is not a default weapon attack. You can only make it pierce via skill modifiers that specifically add passthrough to primal strike like e.g. mythical Vortex of Souls.
Oh thanks for the so quick answer ! I am soon lvl 50 (playing hardcore and discovering the game so i died a few time...) Can you tell me the up and downside of arcanist and inqui? I guess if you put arca there is a reason!
"Panetti's replicated totems" is cute naming, I guess, but very misleading. Your totems are not casting anything other than what they always do - but IT nice to have 6 instead of 2, that's for sure. When I first read that I thought "whoa, we can have totems cast other things than their defaults?" kek
Gotta have at least a tiny bit of clickbait in those titles. This is TH-cam after all :D Totems casting different skills for you would be amazing though.
Hey, what attributes do you use for this build? I'm new and am not following the entire video yet but can't see when you talk about what attributes, thanks. Edit - nvm, I see.
Hi! A have a question about this build. I recently finished my first game on normal difficulty with a Blitz Warlord. Can I play this build using only melee weapons? It's more a matter of preference due to the build I played previously. Thank you!
You can, yes. For full melee I would also recommend Demolitionist, Oathkeeper and Soldier as secondary classes instead of Arcanist. All four can be very good, but soldier would be the easiest to play.
Have to say that I been playing for 3-4 hours. I defeated Krieg and I have to say that this build on melee is FANTASTIC and super fun. I played a little bit of ranged also but then changed to full melee and the AOE damage you have is massive. I defeated Krieg in literaly 5 minutes with this build. I will choose Arcanist as the second class because I never played with it. Soldier was my first class in the previous game. Thank you very much for your time and effort making this guide. Also sorry for my bad english, it's not my native lenguage. Cheers!
I completed Act I but there's no emissary. Upon looking it up, you have to complete a quest called Atherial Farm first, in Act III. So I guess they changed it?
Hey protoss, i'm new-ish to GD (been playing about a month) and levelling this as my 2nd character, i'm about level 80 and i'm getting a bit squishy in the start of ultimate :( Need your advice on a couple of things please; I was thinking, instead of druid would warder with full krieg set and the PS aether conversion amulet work? be tankier but still deal out good dmg? Or conjurer with the rotghiest set and loads of attack dmg converted to health? (I can remember seeing somewhere that if it says % dmg to health it doesn't stack, does this mean that bat and toad devo's and skills like sigil of consumption and devouring swarm doesn't stack and give you more dmg to health? i was playing on grimtools and could get upto 40%ish would this not work?) i want to make something that i can facetank with using primal strike and still ok-good dmg. Any help is greatly appreciated :) keep up the good work 👍
Kriegs set in general is a good starter set for a few combinations. I think in general it's better for (soldier/arcanist) or (necro/arcanist) but the beauty of grim dawn is you can basically always make something work with damage conversion. You might not be able yo do super bosses, but for a build to get you started farming rougelike dungeons and lokarr, it's definitely viable.
Does devotion skills matter what they are bound to? and will you loose the experience gained if you remove previous selected(resetting your devotions)? Im currently running Rowans Crown(current lvl 13) on my primal strike and tsunami(current lvl 16)on my Wind devils. I really want Ultos, and im not planning on running with any other attack abilities other than those two. the rest will be toggled auras
Different skills will have different %chances to proc different devotion procs, so finding the right match is part of the puzzle. You do not lose any XP on active devotions when you unbind/respec, but you also only gain XP with devotions when they are bound to a skill.
Hope u or somebody can help me. So I see it right that I can rely on the dps number in the character info? Or is it possible that a weapon with minus dps can be better?
Thanks for your video. It's very solid! Could you please advice. I'm 32lvl shaman and I'm struggling with my mana. I follow your guide. Should I decrease primal strike then? Now I have 16/16. What do you think? Or how could I improve my mana regen? Update: I've got an item with +4.4 mana regen and put one regen stoni into my other item and issue with lack of mana has gone, even without decreasing primal strike :D
So easy to level and play. Enjoying this build a lot. Does it matter who I choose at Homestead? And what about other choices (side or kill witch / Barrowholme)?
It doesnt really matter for this character, so feel free to choose whichever faction you'd like. I think kymon's have a crossbow that is useful for primal strike until you find a sparkthrower. Outcast/Barrowholm doesn't really matter a lot either. If you wanna have more augment options for endgame, side with both.
@@rektbyprotoss Fair enough. Considering how my character is already making Act 6 a meatgrinder, I think I'll choose Death's Vigil for the quests. Thanks for the quick response and the amazing guide!
I beat Herald of Flame 8 levels early because of this build. Genuinely too easy. It's great! I wish everything else was this good. edit: wait I have wildcaller axe and chest that's why its hitting like a truck... Hey what drops that headpiece?
Military conditioning 10/10, field command 12/12, squad tactics 12/12, menhir's will at least one point, scars of battle (enough so that you have 100% armor absorb with 1-2 other absorb components, e.g. 6/8 or 7/8), blitz 1point and mobility, blindside 1 point for DA shred, 1/8 to 8/8 into decorated soldier depending on how much elemental/slow res you want and also warcry 12/12 for dmg reduction.
I made a lightning doom bolt Warlock some time ago th-cam.com/video/cJh_ktlj4_I/w-d-xo.html (yes it died, but I just played horribly). For lightning doom bolt in general I think arcanist or shaman are best secondary classes. Inquisitor might be ok, too.
You can play this as 2h ranged or melee alike :) If you are already 100% set on playing melee and never wanting to play ranged anyway, you can also pick soldier as a secondary instead of arcanist.
Maybe I have done something wrong I'm like lvl 34 and it happened a lower lvl also I have a cool down for primal strike but once I lvl again it normally isn't an issue most times I can spam primal strike
I am having trouble surviving with this build at elite difficulty at lvl 50 even tho i stacked resistances to nearly 80%. Any advice? I am playing on hc and don`t want to die again
Sounds like your armor/physical resistance is too low and/or you don't have maiven's sphere maxed out yet. Also keep in mind that this is supposed to be played as a ranged build, so couple of heavy hitting melee physical hits can hurt a lot even with maxed res. Try timing mirror or dodging vs certain heavy attacks like thrown rocks, troll slams, etc.
@@rektbyprotoss I am playing the korvan storm halberd, because of the plus 4 to primal strike. i don't have maiven's sphere at all yet, so i'll be getting that next. Thx for the advice :)
@@chrisixDDD well... That was quick... F I usually play these kinda builds only on normal as melee and switch over to ranged once I get an ugdenbog sparkthrower from the ugdenbog (can also buy it from the vendor in ancient grove). If you really don't wanna play ranged, but rather melee at all costs, try a soldier second class instead of arcanist next time. It's inherently tankier and a bit better suited for melee.

This is probably still the best beginner deathknight guide that I know of forums.crateentertainment.com/t/1-1-9-0-beginners-apex-death-knight/104214
Widow also gives lightning damage and the skill itself has a lightning resistance reduction debuff.
@@rektbyprotoss Ok so there is no Aether damage source that I missed?
@@Chris-zg7ty the build is pure lightning dmg
@@rektbyprotoss OK that's what I thought. Thanks for response. I notice some gear has a conversion of phys damage to lightning. Is that gear worthwhile or does it not scale well with the build? I'm using crossbow/gun with this.
Hi, thanks to your vid I ve once again started with grim dawn, really great guide. But I have a question, do you use something like lootfilter or autolooten?
I only use the ingame lootfilter, ingame "autoloot materials" option and the ingame "pickup" function that you can assign in keybindings.
So no mods at all.
How does stormcallers pact work? Is the electrocute damage from it just added to all attacks?
30:45 damn what shoulders are those ?
I wanna try this build but with an Elementalist instead since the weapon seems good for both classes. Do you have any recommendations for how to fill out the Demolitionist tree or alter the build?
I love that build, but I am not sure of what endgame set to chase from here ? Also for wep I have Stormreaver which seems to be amazing but not sure if there is anything more suitable
Ultos Set is great for Primal Strike. Stormreaver is also a good weapon but ITS a savagery/totem build, which fits better with Light's Defender.
@@rektbyprotoss Really appreciate the reply bro! I'm farming Ultos already. It does look very OP.
Thank you.
@@aleksandarbradaric4925 "Are guardians affected by Field command and squad tactics?"
They scale with the player's stats, so they will scale with your OA and %damage, BUT they don't scale with your attack speed. Their attack speed can only be increased with items specifically increasing their attack/total speed via a modifier to the guardians.
Great video. Can you also say something about attribute distribution, please?
For this build on HC, only put as much cunning as you need to equip your gun (if you use one) and all other points can go into physique. If you're playing on SC, you can put some points into spirit for more dmg.
@@rektbyprotoss Thank you very much :)
hey, will this guide work with a warder build, or is it mainly for druid?
It will work for melee Warder, too.
@ ok thanks very much
I started playing GD recently. Playing a 2h mlee Primal Strike shaman and would love to know what you all think would be an ideal secondary class?
So with the new patch changes shifting shot passthrough over to weapon skills, and this going for more of a ranged focus at the endgame, would it make more sense to take something that would let our Primal Strike pierce? Or does that not work because (unlike something like Fire Strike) Primal Strike doesn't count as a default weapon attack?
Primal Strike is not a default weapon attack. You can only make it pierce via skill modifiers that specifically add passthrough to primal strike like e.g. mythical Vortex of Souls.
do i use the same devo if i go with warder primal strike? thanks for the guide
Does this build need to be updated for the current patch? If so, are you willing to make a new video for it?
Currently, not really. When the expansion hits next year, this is probably in need of an update.
Hey Rekt ! Would it work with inqui ? Also, I want to play primal but also wind devil and totem. Isn't it too much? I want buttons to press haha
Vindicator (+Inquisitor) is a solid primal strike choice aswell, yes. You always need to play wind devil because of its RR anyway.
Oh thanks for the so quick answer ! I am soon lvl 50 (playing hardcore and discovering the game so i died a few time...)
Can you tell me the up and downside of arcanist and inqui? I guess if you put arca there is a reason!
Okay let's try some Thor-like build
**Skyfallen shotgun of awesomeness** dropped lvl5, +4 to primal strike
Okay let's try the Zeus-like version ! :D😁
This is TH-cam after all :D
Totems casting different skills for you would be amazing though.
Hey, what attributes do you use for this build? I'm new and am not following the entire video yet but can't see when you talk about what attributes, thanks. Edit - nvm, I see.
No secondary class ?
@@rektbyprotoss Thank you very much!
Cheers!
@@rektbyprotoss Is this build out of date? Also, where can I get a good 2H range? I'm on elite difficulty
I wanna try my first char with 2H ranged!
Should i focus to Primal Strike, Cadende or Fire Strike?
Thank bro!
I completed Act I but there's no emissary. Upon looking it up, you have to complete a quest called Atherial Farm first, in Act III. So I guess they changed it?
The emissary spawns after killing Warden Krieg if you own the Forgotten Gods expansion.
Hey protoss, i'm new-ish to GD (been playing about a month) and levelling this as my 2nd character, i'm about level 80 and i'm getting a bit squishy in the start of ultimate :(
Need your advice on a couple of things please;
I was thinking, instead of druid would warder with full krieg set and the PS aether conversion amulet work? be tankier but still deal out good dmg? Or conjurer with the rotghiest set and loads of attack dmg converted to health? (I can remember seeing somewhere that if it says % dmg to health it doesn't stack, does this mean that bat and toad devo's and skills like sigil of consumption and devouring swarm doesn't stack and give you more dmg to health? i was playing on grimtools and could get upto 40%ish would this not work?) i want to make something that i can facetank with using primal strike and still ok-good dmg.
Any help is greatly appreciated :) keep up the good work 👍
Soldier is a good secondary for tankiness. A lot of GD pro's will tell you warder is good for melee PS
Hey man, should I use the same exact devotion setup if I'm playing a pure ranged lightning vindicator?
Yea pretty much.
What’s your favorite class/build?
@@rektbyprotoss Tyvm for the answer, love your content :)
Is this build good for “endgame” aswell, as a melee version?
Is there a melee primal strike Druid build that’s viable on elite/ultimate?
So easy to level and play. Enjoying this build a lot. Does it matter who I choose at Homestead? And what about other choices (side or kill witch / Barrowholme)?
It doesnt really matter for this character, so feel free to choose whichever faction you'd like. I think kymon's have a crossbow that is useful for primal strike until you find a sparkthrower. Outcast/Barrowholm doesn't really matter a lot either. If you wanna have more augment options for endgame, side with both.
Sorry if it is already said in the vide, but should I go Kymon's Chosen since they have stuff with lightning dmg?
It doesn't really matter too much which faction you choose, but kymon's would be indeed slightly better.
Good to hear :D
Wildcaller items are all random drops.
I know I'm late to the party but could you put a list of desired attributes in order of importance
Physique for armor requirements cunning for gun requirements, all other points into spirit for damage.
If you where to go more melee focused and choose solider as your second class what skills would you invest into?
Military conditioning 10/10, field command 12/12, squad tactics 12/12, menhir's will at least one point, scars of battle (enough so that you have 100% armor absorb with 1-2 other absorb components, e.g. 6/8 or 7/8), blitz 1point and mobility, blindside 1 point for DA shred, 1/8 to 8/8 into decorated soldier depending on how much elemental/slow res you want and also warcry 12/12 for dmg reduction.
Hello i want do lighting doom bolt but i dont wana make occ + sham maybe, occ+ mage or occ+ inq will be better
@@rektbyprotoss beer for you
What is the DPS of primal strike showed?
what are your thoughts on Primal strike vs savagery endgame if im using an ultos set?
I'd say currently primal strike is pretty much better for all content except maybe bossing. Savagery gives you +8% physical resistance buff after all.
who am i meant to side with for this build? kymons chose or order of deaths vigil?
Doesn't really matter tbh.
May I know the main diff between the build from video and ssf version?
This is basically the same build. The video shows a more like a theoretical idea, while the SSF version is a more concrete example.
do you need guns for this build in the endgame? or are 2h weapons viable? im a noob.
You can play this as 2h ranged or melee alike :)
If you are already 100% set on playing melee and never wanting to play ranged anyway, you can also pick soldier as a secondary instead of arcanist.
@@rektbyprotoss how would you allocate your points into the soldier tree?
Maybe I have done something wrong I'm like lvl 34 and it happened a lower lvl also I have a cool down for primal strike but once I lvl again it normally isn't an issue most times I can spam primal strike
Great guide btw
Are you running out of energy? Or maybe you are getting skill disrupted? Those are the only two scenarios that I can think of.
Thanks for responding I actually figured it out the next power after primal strike when I bought back some points I mistakenly unselected it
I'm loving this build this is my first time playing and you video is so much help
@@peliquion well that explains it :D gj figuring it out!
should i take hydra if i want to play ranged only?
hydra is a good option for ranged PS, yes.
How is the Primal Strike not in cooldown? Can someone experienced with the game explain to me?
The green crystal icon in the skill transmutes the skill to have no cooldown. (Thunderous Strike)
Thx for the advice :)
nvm, i died :D
@@chrisixDDD well... That was quick... F
I usually play these kinda builds only on normal as melee and switch over to ranged once I get an ugdenbog sparkthrower from the ugdenbog (can also buy it from the vendor in ancient grove).
If you really don't wanna play ranged, but rather melee at all costs, try a soldier second class instead of arcanist next time. It's inherently tankier and a bit better suited for melee.
is primal strike a attack or spell?
Attack
hi, the Guide is one year old. Is this guide still up to date?
Yes it's still up to date :)
@@rektbyprotoss thanks man. Sounds good 🤘
Can this build do SR 75
With the proper gear from an endgame guide, yes.
can I used this build today?
Yes :)
@@rektbyprotoss This small comment helps so much. wanted to do a guide but got lost in constellations that were obviously outdated on the main build websites. Being able to see that this build works even a month ago helps me and my decision. Thanks yo.
Does this work for 1.9.8?
Yes :)
really all green items? xD
Great tutorial but god damn you talk too fast
