  • A street legal race car, it goes without saying that the Porsche GT3 can deliver the true motorsports experience when it comes to both outright performance and feel behind the wheel. But as it is street legal, what’s it really like for daily use?

    Some of these car enthusiasts need to understand that these new DCTs can shift more efficiently than any man ever could under most circumstances.

      But he is right, for a sports car driven on the road just for fun a manual transmission is great. Also it I'd great when you can do heel and toe and all other stuff I can't tell in English. But if you just want to be fast the PDK is a lot better, the extra weight does not matter, due to all wheel steering.

    6:09 Putting a car into neutral is probably the last thing you'd want to do while understeering. You'll need that engine brake for traction. Braking would also help alleviate understeer and would not make it worse. It may send more weight forward, but ultimately slowing down the car, reducing the steering angle, or applying sudden throttle to get the car to rotate (on RWD cars of course) are your only options to alleviate understeer as it is actively occurring.

    can we stop giving fuel economy numbers for a car that cost that much, because i doubt the person buying it will ever be concerned about fuel prices.

    The ending argument for those people who can't stand that the GT3 is automatic only consider these two things:
    The GT3 is now so good that you cannot extract all of its performance with a manual gearbox. This is undeniably true.
    So what you say? You don't care about the last 2/10th of a second performance? Then get a Cayman GTS in manual.
    /argument

    Am i the only one that would prefer to have a clutch and row their own gears like a 20 th centure neadethol over a paddle shift system? If i want easy automatic driving i ll buy a Malibu instead. Yes i know the dual clutch is quicker but who cares really?

    Funny thing about seeing a Porsche 911 at a Home Depot. I was parked next to a guy who loaded a few 2x4's into the driver's side window of his black 911. The lumber pieces were sticking out the window about 2 feet or so. Didn't bother to tie or strap them down, nor attach a red or neon warning flag to aid other drivers. What an idiot. You'd figure a guy who can afford a car like this can afford the $20 an hour truck rental from Home Depot.

    This is a street legal track car. Get over your stupid H-patterns. They're slower and more error prone. You buy this car for lap times at the circuit, not cruising. If you want that, go buy a Carrera or Targa.

      ewt415 like putting a car in drive and then what??? Just hang on for the ride... soooo engaging huh....lol cuz...no need to go back and forth.. you're not a car enthusiast.

    • @rousseau327
      @rousseau327 10 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      ingineous Well, if you need me take your through a driving experience, then I will, seeing as you clearly have never driven anything over 25 miles an hour.
      First off, how about the paddles? Still controlling your own gears. How about the steering? The grip of the front end? The grip and movement of the rear end? The way the car builds up power? The sensation of the car moving underneath you? The feeling of your body being an integral piece in the body of the car? The noise of the engine? The turn in? The exit? The lateral forces in corners? The degree of lean? The balance? The brake feel? The throttle response? I guess the ONLY thing an enthusiast needs to give a shit about is that manual gear lever right? No, YOU'RE not a car enthusiast if you think that. You're only a manual gearbox enthusiast. Nice try.

    • @ingineous
      @ingineous 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      ewt415 gosh...A novel of garbage. It's obvious you have not a clue on being a purist and true enthusiast. Automation separates man from machine. Algorithms allows a driver to hand over strategy and talent for a simple ride on rails. Motortrend's current driver's car is the camaro... why..hmmm maybe it was the only 1 that truly challenged his skill. I'm a subaru fanatic...but I had to agree that the excessive tech was a turn off...He Randy even said he had to toggle with various settings before he could enjoy it even in the slightest. From the days of group b to the great touge. ..Real drivers make or break records ...not the car itself. When cars were hand built and attention to detail was important. ..men built works of art and drivable masterpieces. ..today...globalization and sheer demand has forced compromise and now cars are made by robots. ..

    • @ingineous
      @ingineous 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ingineous automation has brought down the value of cars and to equate. .. automation has diluted the driving experience. How can you seriously think you sound convincing by embracing technology that suppresses the driver's skill? The clutch pedal is important. .. you have to be a real driver to know your engine. Pdk isn't a manual no matter what you wanna fool yourself and think. O btw. The only person that has no real experience here is you. I grew up on a summit and my daily commute was up and down a mountain. ...and my current daily driver is a gc8 rsti that's currently on an e85 tune. So relax ....keep your automatic can't parallel park to save your life commentary to yourself. Real drivers get what I'm saying.

    Well if you like modern foreign cars than you might as well get use to dual clutch transmissions vs American beloved manuals . As far as Porsche is concerned it's about speed and less driver engagement. I rather haul ass vs manually shifting being slower on the track and road

    I do enjoy the video and that sound of red line sure is addicting. I don't understand why porsche doesn't give the option for their purist car lover the Stick shift option. Pdk is good as I have tried on the s5, 135i m sport, a45amg. I am driving a manual wrx and though shifting gear by yourself is the fun of the driving experience but I guess most manufacturer like to phase out the Stick option for fuel economy.

    • @rousseau327

      They likely did not want to give their customers a half-assed manual gearbox, due to the fact that they cannot allocate as much of their budget onto the research and development of the manual transmission because of their customer base and sales figures.

      @AGC828 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ZenZory Overload Not likely. I heard the GT3 is returning in a 2017 model. The 911 R is based off of the GT3 RS and is a limited run of 700 cars...which I'm assuming have already been spoken for. Be good if they put the 911 R into production for "purists" and inclu the option for a PDK trans...some people don't want that HUGE wing on the back of the RS (me)...eye sore as a street driven car.

      +Anderson C ohh thats great.....can I get your help with this I'm in the market for a new car I have a budget of 150k I want a super car with preferably
      Awd which is not a gtr or Lamborghini gallardo. I have a good friend that works at an exotic car dealer and he has to cars for me a 2014 r8 v10 and a 2015 911 gt3 right now I'm driving the r8 for a week it's a great car but I'm holding out till I get to drive the Porsche which one would you pick?

      +Anderson C 2 cars* sorry typing on a small ass screen

    • @AGC828
      @AGC828 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ZenZory Overload I'd go with a 911. I don't like the look of the current R8. Too many sharp corners in the design (e.g. lights). Just doesn't have the same lines as the previous gen R8 which is the one I would have preferred if I wanted an Audi.
      AWD...911 Carrera 4s. Should be under $140k USD for sure. Maybe even the 911 Turbo.
      Though, I don't know why you need to get a "supercar". These cars are more "sports cars" IMHO...a "supercar" to me is something leading edge and "inconvenient" like a Porsche 918, Bugatti's, Lambo Aventatdor, et.
      Good luck.
