    The most amazing thing about what you do... is how the names of each and every component you're looking at are just working vocabulary for you. That's just non-human.

    Some very talented problem solving. What a great find. A modern light Hotrod-able motor!

      We’ll see how it turns out! No real info or support for them yet but I’m happy to contribute my findings to grow the platform

    Great video. I like how your other videos have tied back into this one. Super bastard bolt.

    In and around the year of two thousand one or two, I adapted a Mazda Wankel engine into a Subaru XT four wheel drive rig... I don't really like the sound of that particular engine but when working from a junk yard of pieces and parts, in other words basically free parts and rig,... I set it in. Once wiring and other issues were figured out, we pulled the governor off of the rotary engine. Now RPM's were unlimited and here in alaska we have some significant cold weather allowing us to drive on frozen lakes. I did live in Anchorage at the time and was half owner with Don B. of the AAA1 Subaru shop. Its been sold like maybe the third time since we opened up a little single car garage that just blew up as popular because of its being ahead of the big onslaught of foreign cars that were all wheel drive or many versions of it. Subarus everywhere and cheap so we did a good business.... I had just went through a divorce so drank my way out of it. I might be sober now but threaten a relapse every day here at almost seventy four years of age, and on currently hospice for a injury that left me crippled... too long a story, so with further ado..... we had the XT running great and took it to big lake, name of lake and town there just north of anchorage.... and put it on the ice..... Here is where all the fun starts.... Its sounding awesome and we just put new studded tires all the way around the XT. Our buddy who was invested in our debauchery.. asked to be first driver.... no problem as he was buying the beer. He lined up against the others who we were racing against. Laughing he takes off kind of slowly to gain his best traction on the ice and then floor boarded it! We had locked up the spiders so the diffs were all turning as hoped. According to the electronic tac, it hit around fifteen thousand RPM's and literally threw all those studs in the tires out.... steel studs coming out much faster than a machine gun and threw those studs through every fender!!! Bonnie and Clyde had nothing on that ET that day. What I am saying is that Subaru has come a long long way from the little tin can in the eighties. I enjoyed this two part so far build that your doing or should say did if you went ahead with it... enjoy watching a guy overcome simple problems with simple solutions. I say simple yet know how complex this is and can be as I made my living as a mechanic on heavy equipment for years and then kind of got tired of camps and other discomforts so fell into fixing small rigs up for people... I got hurt in a accident in two thousand five that with doctors making things worse.... I am now a crippled old man of nearly seventy four years..... I love that exuberance you young guys have for making things happen

    I want to say something clever to inspire you to move forward. I'm just not well informed about all that your imagination can come up with. I'm thinking that all the designs that manifested into these engines involved a lot of alcohol and napkin drawings. Einstein ounce said; what the mind can conceive, man can achieve! I so much look forward to seeing this come together and perform on the ground. Happy New Year and good times coming your way.

    Dude I average almost 30 hours a week on TH-cam and I can say without a doubt that I enjoy watching your videos far more than anything else.
    And you need to make conversion kits or something and jump the gun because I’m sure the drift community will dip their toes into the 1.4l. I’d buy one for sure

      Thanks! If this motor performs well I can see it being so great in a miata or a small pickup like a ranger/s10

    hey man, great job. i'm close to starting my adapter plate build - mating an Alfa Romeo twin cam to a JDM 4.44 WRX transaxle which will be going into a '75 Fiat X1/9 resto-Franken-mod. I, too, will be adapting the Subaru flywheel to the crank, and because this flywheel is bigger than the Alfa part the bellhousing bolts on the engine block are obscured, so my adapter plate will be a 2-part clamshell design. thanks for sharing this awesome info, and let the chips fly!

    Mid 2016 and up are all the same. I think 2019 was the last year it was made for the US because everyone thought that buying a $75k truck so their dog could have more room was the thing to do 🤣

    Lot's of flywheel / flexplate come with a odd bolt pattern like that. Pretty sure the LE2 engines are 0 balance, but if they ever made a version that needs counter balance they don't want the flywheel bolted on incorrectly or out of balance. I'm building a dune buggy with the same engine, only difference is that I'm using the factory FWD 6 speed manual so it keeps the weight forward. I subscribed and will keep an eye on your project, looks like a lot of fun!

    • @spankranchgarage
      @spankranchgarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome to hear. Are you going to make videos about it? I considered a fwd trans but the axle length had me concerned from a suspension travel aspect. For a street buggy absolutely

    • @fivepointeightnate
      @fivepointeightnate ปีที่แล้ว

      @@spankranchgarage I'll probably make a few vids while we put it together. It will be mostly for street but hopefully there will be decent suspension travel too.

    BTW, Chevy LS uses M11 flywheel bolts. I think the odd sizes are to keep you from using junky hardware store stuff. 🤣

    • @0tink9
      @0tink9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      makes sense but I feel like there are other parts of the engine and drive train where that is more critical. Either way, there is always odd/cool stuff in even the most boring vehicles

    I'm thinking at one point of time GM owned Subaru, and Toyota bought them from GM. Could be the reason why those bolt holes lined up.

      Check out the wiki page for these engines. It may not have all the details we need but it has some helpful info. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_small_gasoline_engine
