Doom is a great mix of Sci Fi and Hell. The timeline goes from the 2020s with Doom 1 to 64 (Doom 64 named after Nintendo 64 as it was only on this console) then there's a massive time jump of 100 years with Doom 3 in the mid 2140s where you play as a whole other character less experienced which is why the game is alot slower and scarier then you got Doom 2016 taking place in the late 2140s a few years after Doom 3 where the Doom Slayer wakes up after years of being imprisoned in hell being found and brought to a UAC Mars bases. Doom 2016 is the sequel to Doom 64 but also acts as a soft narrative reboot it's a new era of Doom. Then you got Doom Eternal which takes place a few months after Doom 2016. Doom 3 was always up for debate if it took place in the same universe as the first three games as it kind of retold the first Doom game but with alot of changes and pushing the setting 100 years in the future. But to me it's just a side story set between Doom 64 and Doom 2016. Timeline Earth 1 (Original Universe) Doom 1 - 2022 Doom 2 - 2022 Doom 64 - 2023ish Earth 2 (New Universe) Doom 3 - 2145 Earth 3 (Could be it's own separate universe to Doom 3) Doom 2016 - 2149 Doom Eternal - 2150s
@@dagonofthedepths the Doom Guy was sent to Mars after he refused to fire on a group of civilians which was in 2019. The original Doom guys were always set in a near future inspired by the retro futuristic look of aliens and Starship Troopers.
@@CaptainAmercia It was suppose to be an alien game yeah, But the original manual only states he was sent to Mars 3 years before the game starts. Besides Starship Troopers takes place in 2659 and the first alien movie takes place in 2122. That and the had colonies on Mars and both moons. I'm asking what source your getting 2020 from. Not saying it wasn't retroactively changed or anything but the first game was designed not to have much of a plot. Carmack stated as much so the Doom timeline is a huge mess to be blunt.
Also Doom3 was a reboot. Narratively it doesn't make sense for Doom 1 to be about teleportation experiments on Phobos and Deimos that cause a demonic invasion which lead to an invasion by same forces on Earth to 100years later trying to invent the same tech (which they needed alien artifacts to help them with) only to open a gate to Hell (again) and not figure out that was Hell and they where fighting demons (again).
@@dagonofthedepths Doom 3 isn''t a reboot it can be placed as a prequel, doom 3 -> doom -> doom2, or it can be placed as a sequel and it isn't in the same universe. So you have two different protagonists.Timeline from alien and starship troopers have nothing to do with doom. they are totally unrelated. And Earth from Doom 2016 and Eternal is not the same from the original, it is the same protagonist Doomguy but he ended up in the different universe.
Also if this game reminds you of an old arcade, without any obvious arcade elements visible, the devs did a damn good job of conveying original doom feeling!
10:32 I regularly listen to the doom soundtrack in my free time.... though it’s usually short lived as I’ve tired myself out just rockin’ out as hard as I can for like 5 to ten minutes.... ok I’m not rockin’ out, I start out doing that, and very quickly morphs into imaginary fighting hordes of demon who buckle and mash under my boot!... and then I get tired or I give myself mild whiplash and lay down for a while.... SOO MUCH FUNNN! You owe it to yourself to give it a try. Gotta cut loose like that every once in a while and just feel that white hot rage against a faceless nameless force of evil you can show no mercy... in your imagination of course. It’s healthy.
Hannah, the story and lore they've packed into the new DOOM games would actually impress you. Highly suggest looking up a few DOOM lore videos. You'll be surprised
Love how initially Hannah was all "OH GROSS VIOLENCE AND GORE" when watching video games stuff, now she looks intrigued but not fully on board *Classic desensitisation! Someone call the politicians, because the video games are doing it again!*
The funny thing was, when they hired Mick Gordon, they specifically told him to NOT use guitars, he made a piece of music that seemed to not have any guitar sounds in it, but in fact the guitar was hidden, they loved it, and than afterwards he told the group "you know that there is a guitar in this song, right?" and they let him use the guitar as he pleased :p that's such a cool titbit to know
I remember playing house of the Dead and Time crisis in the arcades 2 decades back when arcades were still around. also his music is so Metal, it uses Chains, Chainsaws and Lawnmowers next to Mongolian throat singing, Guitars and probably the bones of killed enemies, but that isn't confirmed as instruments.
@@HannaHsOverInvested Destiny 2's new expansion coming out in Feb. next year. It's looking pretty good. Even if you don't think you'd like Doom, I would suggest giving it a try. It really is fun, not only because they actually pull the story together, but also because once you get passed the learning curve of weapon swapping it really becomes a fast paced, sweat inducing game that gets really addicting. Think of it like this: "The demons think you're trapped in a room with them, but...." and that's kind of the vibe the game cultivates.
@KCMueller87 "Also the spin off game, XCOM: Chimera Squad, might be the "be friends instead" game your looking for." - Gee, I don't know... It could be quite unsettling to have a Muton hybrid in your book reading club...
There is a DOOM movie with "Rock" Dwayne Johnson in it, you might wanna watch it, but it's more like a DOOM 3 game, atmosphere wise, not like this new DOOM or DOOM Eternal.
Eh it was alright had the weakest gameplay and after a while it became less scary which was the main focus of the game but as a Doom game and sequel it wasn't the best more like a Spin off. Doom 2016 was a true sequel to Doom 64. I played Doom 3 in VR it's far better i have a ultra wide monitor playing at 100 fov the game just isnt as scary anymore when you play it like a Doom game but in VR its great.
Sadly, these videos really failed to capture the impressive characterization of the Doom Marine. Honest Trailers got close, but all the footage was too chopped up. Crucially, there's a lot of interesting story and politicking going on in the surrounding world, but the Doom Marine knows better. He knows that Hell is bad news, and that humans shouldn't mess with it. He doesn't take any of the bullshit, and shows a consistent, violent disdain for talk of "the greater good" or trying to control the demons or anything like that. If you get the chance, please check out the opening of the game, which is honestly a masterclass in worldbuilding, tone-setting, and characterization in first-person, and with a silent protagonist too. It's under 6 minutes: th-cam.com/video/x_d54SejEHA/w-d-xo.html
Playing House of Dead makes you a gamer. You can play House of Dead today on PC through emulators. Also there are, like, 5 sequels to House of Dead. Oh, and if you liked that arcade, there's also Ultima Cop and Time Crisis
Not to mention The Typing of the Dead, which has you type out words to kill zombies. It also alters the cutscenes to have the characters carry around massive keyboards on their backs
They are demons, imps, cyberdemons etc that is why this game series is most Christian game series ever and all that bloodsheed is because demons killed MC s rabbit
The face you made when they said "skittles and fish"? That was great! Must be great to get that kind of immediate appropriate reaction from your audience from a performer's and/or writer's perspective.
What you gotta understand when you play it is that it's not meant to be creepy. That hardcore soundtrack is FOR you, to make you feel more powerful and to get your heart pumping lol. The gorey kill animations make you feel badass
I remember introducing DOOM's music to my mom who grew up listening to Nat King Cole and Kenny G. I felt bad, she was literally sweating, heart pounding, and was in complete shock.
7:40 "Raze Hell" is a bit of a pun because it's like the expression "raise hell" which is to cause a commotion but they use the word "raze" which means to level something (completely decimate/obliterate something) which makes sense as your goal of the game is to destroy Hell and all of Demon kind
The doom games lore is awesome, and makes the player feel like he's unstoppable in so many ways. Ya gotta go read or watch the stuff.. the games are awesome.
Once one becomes completely desensitized to Doom, it’s really fun to watch someone else’s deliciously appalled reactions and remember your own introduction.
I miss Arcades so much that I tried to turn a room into a mock one. Steering wheel, VR, classic arcade controller with classic games. I miss the 90's and early 2000's.
8:53 I think Primal is the best word to describe Dooms newer music. With game music specifically, and fight scene music even more specifically, it about setting the scene and trying to get you pumped whereas the Doom music itself is pumped up and just expecting you to follow and join in. Weird analogy but hear me out. Its like other game music is someone handing you an axe and showing you how to use it in combat whereas Doom is a viking warrior shoving the axe in your hand screaming "FOR VALHALLA!" In your face and running off to fight the enemy knowing you will be following just a step behind. My favourite description of someone elses is that othe game music is designed to warn you when a boss etc is approaching but in Doom the music is to warn the enemies even the bosses that you are approaching.
Doom 3 was released August 2004. I was 44 in 2004 when I bought it. I'm 63 now. I still play it. It can still make me jump back from the screen. There are parts of Doom 3 that ooze dread and scream terror - and there's no way, in Hell or out of it, that I'll play a VR version
As other comments have mentioned, the doomguy is certain death to the demons. If they could have emotions, then they would be running away from doomguy. "Man literally too angry to die" would be a good way to describe him. Lore wise, he's impossible to kill, fast as a flipping train, and can use any weapon he sees.
Most cosmic horror says "You are locked in a building with cruel monsters from another dimension." DOOM says "Cruel monsters from another dimension are locked in a building with YOU."

I think you'd love Undertale, but it's a HUGE commitment. Mick Gordon is a master of his craft and was able to bring the lore and iconic sounds of the original series into the 21st century. The music is damn perfect!
Doom is so over the top in the "gore" element that it's a healing experience. If you are afraid or disgusted by blood an viscera being shred into pieces, there is so much of it in Doom that it override your aversion. For those that don't know. I'm pretty sure she means Jaina Proudmoore from Warcraft.
@@BrokenShale When she says Elsa from Warhammer, I am fairly certain she is referring to the Tzarina of Kislev from the Warhammer 3 videos.
However, I do not believe we have ever heard her speak.
The familiar voice she is thinking of would be, in my best guess, Apollyon from For Honor, because she watched that fairly recently. But I can totally be way off on that guess.
@@LethalShadow Shit I completely forgot she reviewed Total War.
@@LethalShadow I think she means the sister narrator in the Warhammer 40,000 The New Edition Cinematic trailer. The voice in the Doom trailer immediately reminded me of that.
"You can't kill them because they're already deaaaad..."
Hannah: "Ooh, loophole!" :D
I'm 10 seconds in, and this is already shaping up to be a fantastic video.
Hahah thanks.
With the New War being released next month, I recommend watching the Warframe trailers, and "The Non-Spoiler Beginner's Guide to Warframe's Story and Lore". If you're interest is peaked there is the Tennocon gameplay trailers where the Dev show off the biggest up-coming additions to the game.
You literally go from fighting 5 demons in a broom closet to fighting thousands in a room the size of a mega airport
Timeline
Earth 1 (Original Universe)
Doom 1 - 2022
Doom 2 - 2022
Doom 64 - 2023ish
Earth 2 (New Universe)
Doom 3 - 2145
Earth 3 (Could be it's own separate universe to Doom 3)
Doom 2016 - 2149
Doom Eternal - 2150s
When was this started? The original Doom had no year in it.
I listen to the Doom Soundtracks on my way to work to get myself psyched up for an inevitably difficult day
Yikes.
Beat your procrastination into submission.
"Raise a little hell." Hell: "No, please don't!"
Whats funny is that Doom 2016 is like "story? No one cares about that" and doom eternal is like "jk we have the deepest lore"
Hannah, the story and lore they've packed into the new DOOM games would actually impress you. Highly suggest looking up a few DOOM lore videos. You'll be surprised
I like your response "Ewwww; but so cool!" xD
I feel that
Love how initially Hannah was all "OH GROSS VIOLENCE AND GORE" when watching video games stuff, now she looks intrigued but not fully on board
*Classic desensitisation! Someone call the politicians, because the video games are doing it again!*
The funny thing was, when they hired Mick Gordon, they specifically told him to NOT use guitars, he made a piece of music that seemed to not have any guitar sounds in it, but in fact the guitar was hidden, they loved it, and than afterwards he told the group "you know that there is a guitar in this song, right?" and they let him use the guitar as he pleased :p that's such a cool titbit to know
The lady is voiced by the bald lady from Star wars the clone wars
-Is all you do fighting demons?
-Yes
House of the dead is a classic though. Turns out you were a gamer all along! It was your destiny to be here
She’s like actual one of the funny and actual fun to watch people that react to games and tell people there not gamers and it’s actually entertaining
OMG, OMG, OMG it's happening, it's happening people.
RIP AND TEAR UNTIL IT'S DONE!!!
Isabelle, 2020.
🤣🤣
I love your channel, and this was so ironically wholesome!
He's right, the powerups do hide the real shit
[10:16]
[Hannah]: So intense, I hate it
[Me]: I LOVE IT!!!
"And I never want to play it" -- Hannah. That aged like milk.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
"Is all you do fight demons?" I mean kinda, yeah
Haha okay.
We have a mission from God.
Mick Gordon is currently the best video game composer around. He created a soundtrack compliments the action damn near flawlessly.
The demons in Doom be like: "Why do I hear player music?!"
doom and destiny have got to be my favorite games cant wait for for the witch queen expansion on destiny
Witch queen??
@@HannaHsOverInvested Destiny 2's new expansion coming out in Feb. next year. It's looking pretty good.
Even if you don't think you'd like Doom, I would suggest giving it a try. It really is fun, not only because they actually pull the story together, but also because once you get passed the learning curve of weapon swapping it really becomes a fast paced, sweat inducing game that gets really addicting. Think of it like this: "The demons think you're trapped in a room with them, but...." and that's kind of the vibe the game cultivates.
@@HannaHsOverInvested its the newest dlc for destiny 2 it's gonna be awsome
@@HannaHsOverInvested the most lore packed dlc for destiny 2 yet to come out, you should look up the reveal trailers
I love that her reaction to doom slayer pulling out the BFG at the end on the doom 2016 is just a simple "ok"
Maybe some XCOM reactions in the near future.
Also the spin off game, XCOM: Chimera Squad, might be the "be friends instead" game your looking for.
@KCMueller87 "Also the spin off game, XCOM: Chimera Squad, might be the "be friends instead" game your looking for." - Gee, I don't know... It could be quite unsettling to have a Muton hybrid in your book reading club...
13:45 that part is the ending of Doom 3: BFG Editon, Hannah. Thanks for posting, girl!
There is a DOOM movie with "Rock" Dwayne Johnson in it, you might wanna watch it, but it's more like a DOOM 3 game, atmosphere wise, not like this new DOOM or DOOM Eternal.
“I don’t know what these are at all.”
*Unholy laughter*
Man, it's a shame that you didn't react to the Doom Eternal Story Trailer.
I still might.
I listen DOOM music in my free time. Mostly at the gym! It just perfect!
I listen to before I sleep.
There's been loads of Doom games.
Doom 3 was the best of the bunch.
Yes it was.
*YES IT WAS, DANGIT!*
Eh it was alright had the weakest gameplay and after a while it became less scary which was the main focus of the game but as a Doom game and sequel it wasn't the best more like a Spin off. Doom 2016 was a true sequel to Doom 64. I played Doom 3 in VR it's far better i have a ultra wide monitor playing at 100 fov the game just isnt as scary anymore when you play it like a Doom game but in VR its great.
pfffffffffffffffffffffffft, No. not even close
Sweet Ferngully poster. Amazing. One of a kind, very underrated movie!
Doom 2016 and Eternal has one of the best soundtracks ever! It's solid proof that metal doesn't need lyrics to be incredible!
Somehow I get goosebumps when I listen "at doom's gate "
They are demons, imps, cyberdemons etc that is why this game series is most Christian game series ever and all that bloodsheed is because demons killed MC s rabbit
Someone else said that too haha
An old video, but, seeing this after a really crappy day has me smiling. Thank you
🙏🏼🙏🏼 I'm happy I made your day better.
We send only you.....Rip and Tear until it is done. EPIC!!!!!
The soundtrack in deed is so metal, i am addicted to it!
This feels like watching a games journalist trying to figure out how a controller works.
Love seeing someone experience the glory kills and music for the first time!
Doom and Heavy Metal go together like peanut butter and jelly. Its hard to play when I'm head banging the whole time.
FINALLY!! ive been waiting for this video for so long!
2:31 LMFAO!!!! i love the hiss and claw.
🤣🤣
Hope you watch more Doom trailers, like DLCs.
Still get chills and hype when I rewatch Doom trailers.
Fun fact: The Slayer become a god before the demons kill his pet (poor daisy)
glad you enjoyed it hannah, but yes, the doom music is very intense... good choice to let off some steam during a workout honestly ^^
YESSSSSSSS!!!! DOOM IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE FRANCHISES!!! IM SO GLAD YOU REACTED TO THIS!!! i'd love if you reacted to more doom content
BFG Division is my favorite and I love your reaction!
Most cosmic horror says "You are locked in a building with cruel monsters from another dimension."
DOOM says "Cruel monsters from another dimension are locked in a building with YOU."
i loved the entire video. All your reactions to all the things! And I appreciate that you restarted that one video because I dislike when reactors talk over things and miss stuff. :p
Doom External has the best sound track of any game or movie ever made. This game got me through the lock down
A woman after my own heart. House of the dead has been my all time favorite at the arcade for years, from the first to the latest. The chaos, the thrill, the goosebumps.
I think you'd love Undertale, but it's a HUGE commitment. Seriously it's gigantic, the community is massive, there's lots of characters, and there is close to no end of fan made trailers, battle sequences ect.
If you choose to dive into it I highly recommend 4 videos
Undertale- Undying The Undying Animation
Death By Glamor Undertale Animatic
Floweys transformation
Stronger Than You (Sans or Chara or Frisk , Sans for a good time, Chara for a scary time, Frisk for a sad time
It's a huge universe and the fan community is something of a miracle with how good the quality of the content is, but of course, it's still a video game, but graphically it's a lot less intresting than the animations so that's why I recommend them
Mick Gordon is a master of his craft and was able to bring the lore and iconic sounds of the original series into the 21st century. The music is damn perfect!
Nice reaction, your hair looks amazing!
Thank you!
Doom is so over the top in the "gore" element that it's a healing experience. If you are afraid or disgusted by blood an viscera being shred into pieces, there is so much of it in Doom that it override your aversion. Like when you go over 32 767 in a 16 bits number and go back to -32 768.
It becomes fun and exhilarating, like paragliding will cure you of vertigo.
"Is that all you do? Fight Demons?"
"Yes. As a matter of fact."
I'm glad this is the video that introduced me to your channel! You go girl! Doom is just too dope!
