A lot of people don't catch this bit. But the siren sound at 1:33 you hear behind the guitar sounds like a warped verison of the generic "Martian" music people used to use in the 50's and 60's. Like those old black and white films. This shows just how crafty Mick Gordon was when he made this song, being that the majority of the game takes place on Mars. I know it doesn't seem like it, but after a few listens you'll catch it.

If you like Mick's music. I encourage everyone to check out the Killer Instinct 2013 Soundtrack. Not only did he crush it, him and the sound team worked together to make the entire game completely musically interactive. If your characters just stand there, it starts playing a slow, melodic version of the stages theme. Throw a punch and the music kicks back up. Start getting low on hp and the music gets intense. Do an ultra, and every hit becomes a musical note. It's amazing. In particular, Polemos, Type-03, Warlord (he actually played a flute made out of a human bone for this song!), Inferno.

I know you're an expert in this field because you say technical terms that I don't know and look up which then tells me you are an expert in this field. Subscribed, I hope you continue looking over great soundtracks like DOOM. I would humbly recommend Caravan Palace songs such as Keep You In Line, Supersonics and their most beloved Lone Digger.
That aside, I wish you great luck in this career. It will no doubt have its endeavors and ordeals, but you seem like the type to endure and create honest, good-hearted and informative content which will no doubt bring in those who wish to follow your career by the millions. I enjoyed you putting this video together and sincerely hope to see more of this. Cheers!

This was so fun to watch!! I myself as an adhd adult and a huge music aficionado, love skillfully layered music with all kinds of really small yet very meaningful details that wrap the whole thing up, so I can't describe how enjoyable it was to watch someone similarly analyzing all the tricks in Bfg Division as I obviously love it too for said reasons and cause it just slaps! The process of how Mick Gordon created the Doom sound in Doom 2016 is fascinating, the man is a sound designing treasure. I've watched behind the scenes vids of making the Doom soundtrack and its just amazing how much there's going on.

So it's one thing to produce a linear track that plays the same start to finish, and it's another thing to produce a non-linear 'track' that is fed into a game system which ramps up and down the music based on what is happening, and even where you are, in the game in real time. And we're not talking just the volume, the whole tone and feel within this theme change. You've got everything from full raging cacophony to throbbing tense sound to anxious murmurs. This produced track has all of those slices (probably dozens PER 'track') that can be blended between, but all showcased in this version which we can listen to absent the rest of the game.
Mick may or may not be difficult to work with depending on who you ask, but you cannot say that he is not an absolute master of this craft.

Came here specifically to see if someone mentioned this. Doom (2016) is one of the best soundtracks in a game, but it is best experienced *in* the game since the layering of the track is based on what is going on in the game. It is the most brilliant use of music I have ever heard in a video game.

The dumb part about this music being so absolutely amazing, is that the devs didn't initially WANT this kind of music. They asked for generic techno-y background music. Mick Gordon ignored them, and while they were knee-jerk pissed, they loved it too... it's still just weird to think someone said "make the music boring generic... stuff".

one of my fav things about this one is this "pa-shing" sound throughout that comes and goes.. you can hear is pretty clearly at around 1:57 , i think they add it sooner but its more pronounced then.. after the first time i noticed it i always tune into that particular sound every time now.. i love it.
Also have really enjoyed your reactions to this and The Only Thing They Fear Is You..
I would personally recommend Meathook from Doom: Eternal.. and Rip & Tear from Doom (2016)

Mick actually used a 9 string guitar for this track and a few others on DOOM 2016's OST (namely Hellwalker, the main/pause menu music where he mixed a riff with a sample of the original Doom games' chainsaw sound). He's friends with the "extreme metal" band Meshuggah, after completing the DOOM 2016 OST he gave the 9 string guitar to the band's guitarist and in Mick's own words "he doesn't know what to do with it".

If you like the chanting from the last one, there is a whole vocal track featuring what Mick Gordon dubbed the Metal Choir. Eric Holloway also does some of the vocal work for both Doom Eternal and God of War. All the supremely low vocals and chants are him. His voice is insanely low. Anyhoo, you can't go wrong with the Doom Eternal soundtrack, but I'd recommend also doing some of the DLC songs as well. Andrew Hulshult, responsible for the Brutal Doom mod soundtrack for Doom 1993, was brought on to officially work on the game. My favorite track he did is the Blood Swamps track. David Levy has some good stuff on there too, like Trial of Maligog and UAC Atlantica Facility.
