Agreed i've driven a TTS and a BMW Z4 but my Mk6 GTI is wonderful I do plan on tuning it up the 260hp and 280-290 tq mark but that's only cause that's the sweet spot for me in terms of power.
OspreyBravo18 I love that idea. I own an 01 gti with stage 3 revo and a bunch of bold on upgrades and make about 300hp. It's a blast! I recommend giac or revo for your software. Preferably giac if you can find a dealer. They make the most power
Connor Mohan I will take a look at Giac again I was looking at Unitronic or APR but yah that's the right amount of hp in my book and the quality interior I get with my car is just miles better than what I would have got with a BRZ. The only thing I gota make sure is to save enough that I can put better brakes cause those definitely are a weak point but I do a lot of momentum driving so I don't usually run into fade I just need more power for passing slowpokes and well just all around fun factor.
@4:07 I'd like to just say... "Plenty of bad handling rear wheel drive cars, like basically anything made before 1990." Really? Did you just say that? Dude... Lotus was the first company to come to mind. Don't be so broad about such things. If I were part of the production/direction crew, I'd make you go back and redo that part.
mynameisrits Now this is where you come as ignorant. Not a lot of imports come as "has great handling abilities." A lot of people think, "wow that's a fat ass boxy looking car, handles like shit." Here are some great handling American cars; Camaro Z28, Focus and Fiesta ST, Dodge Viper ACR, 2009 Corvette ZR1, I can go on and on. I'm not some proud all-American guy (even though I love to be American), I track a Honda S2000.
Michael Dao That's all well and good, but also realize the Focus and Fiesta are European bred, still. The Focus has always been a car that was European bred (albeit Mazda was where the Control Blade actually originated-- look back at the Cosmo). The Camaro is using Holden underpinnings from Australia, and besides all that, "handling" and "grip" aren't the same thing. A Mercury Marauder can do a sports-car like .86g on a skidpad, but it does a minivan-like slalom in the same test. Not to say a Viper and Corvette don't handle well, but the Viper in particular is a very crude car no matter who's reviewing it. It's a car about grip and not finesse-- and finesse is what really matters in the whole case of handling. What good is grip going one way if the transition the other way is a nasty one? I'm willing to bet your S2000 transitions well, albeit (if I remember right) the early AP1's were a bit twitchy... then again, so are the FR-S'.
mynameisrits Not for anywhere close to the same price. A bottom of the line Mustang V6 manual with its 305 hp and a standard limited slip for 23k will crush any European car that is 15k more on any medium sized track. The Boss Mustang will take out any sub 75k European Car. With its live rear axel.
These guys gave it to the BRZ because of the faster laps but I could care less about it. If I had the money I'd get the GTI and save myself $4k. The GTI has a better interior, it's all about touch points and daily drivability and the GTI has this in spades. The GTI also has a very powerful engine to compete with the BRZ so it's fun to drive as well. The GTI I test drove was a bit soft on handling and acceleration. I realize the turbocharger pre-spools, but there's still a short lag. The GTI is all about luxury lifestyle, the BRZ makes compromises, not to mention the rear seats are unusable. The only good thing about the BRZ besides the handling is the cheaper maintenance. I heard it cost $60 for an oil change at the VW stealership.
The BRZ's torque delivery is simply too little, too late. Around town during a test drive, it felt much weaker than the GTI. The GTI has always been a sporty car practical enough for daily use, and it shines compared to the BRZ. The Subaru WRX should also be considered. Not as practical as the GTI, but compared with the BRZ its much faster. About the oil changes: I have been driving VW's for years, and I just do it myself. Consult the owner's manual for the right kind of oil or look online, buy it at an auto parts store, then change it yourself. You could also buy a tool that resets the maintenance needed messages on the dash.
H0okemh0rns Actually there were Porsche people working on the more recent GTIs, so there's probably a lot more engineering that went into it than you might think. I don't see Subaru coming out with any groundbreaking transmissions, either.
the GTI is so much more fun and it pulls so hard that you literally get scared. It says it only puts out 200 hp but the dyno says it puts out 230. GTI over the brz
You're missing the point of the BRZ completely. This is an driving enthusiasts car that Jeremy Clarkson called the best car his driven in ages and his car of the year. This was a purpose built car for sliding around the track (something the GTI cannot do well) and having fun. To complain about it's lack of practicality and interior appointments is to miss the point. Anyone who actually has more fun in a GTI doesn't really know how to throw around a rear wheel drive car, because there is no comparison: the BRZ is a more fun enthusiast's car and it's not close.
I have a 2012 GTI, 4 dr, 6 spd manual and I absolutely love it. I have friends at work who have the FRS and they love their car. Just because we chose different cars doesn't mean either one of us is wrong. And finding a 4 dr, 6 spd manual, dark grey GTI took a very long time.
still got it? i just got one as my first car exactly the same way 6mt 4 dr just shadow blue anything i should know in general and honestly did i make a good choice?
The BRZ is like a chest-less prom date. Sure it looks good, until you see what's under the dress, and then you realize she doesn't want to put out. There are better cars at this price point. The BRZ/FRS is a car that does a few things very well because it was built for a specific purpose. But I can get better performance and everyday practicality out of (insert hot hatch here). If you want a 2dr. RWD car, then save your money a while longer and get something with a motor to match it's looks. Hell just get a 2015 WRX with a manual trans. More performance, AWD, and in that same price point. I don't hate this car, but there are FAR BETTER options out there.
The WRX drives like a truck in comparison to the BRZ. People like cars like the BRZ, Miata and Cayman because they drive like go karts. They have instantaneous response from user input that you don't get in economy based performance cars like the WRX or GTI which to be honest are nothing more than modded economy boxes. You are missing the point if you don't understand why someone would prefer a BRZ over a WRX. Is the WRX more fast in a straight line than BRZ? Sure but you feel more disconnected in the WRX with its rather lazy steering, higher center of gravity, heavier weight and sloppy 6 speed.
With all due respect, you totally missed my point too. Those cars are good in their own right, but they are in NO WAY practical for day to day use. I can't haul my boys around in a miata. I cant fit my 80 pound dog in an FRS/BRZ. And at what one costs new? I can do better for the price.
K. So I guess you can do better for the price pitting a 458 Italia against a WRX because the WRX will do those things you want better than the Ferrari. No one said that the BRZ is the better all rounder. The BRZ is undoubtedly the better second car than a WRX though. If I own a already practical awd SUV and looking for a second car, why the hell would I chose a WRX over a BRZ as my weekend fun car? The WRX is a better daily driver. The BRZ is a better sports car. Sports cars aren't practical.
Surprised that the GTI steering was commented on positively - it is one of the main changes for the MkVII. Braking in the GTI, fair comments and hopefully a place for the MkVII to improve, but also an easy mod if not. I am a fan of the BRZ/FR-S, I think it is great that they have done this - will be interesting to see what they do with the mid cycle refresh.
The GTI is a nice hatch if you need one, but the BRZ is just an other dimension of sport car. The better comparision for the brz is the cayman, which feels very similiar to the brz, but with more performance in any way, except in fun on driving on very twisty roads, its just easier to have fun without the need of pushing it hard in the brz.I own both btw.
+James Lovett about similar to the GTI. GTI feels faster because it has more down low torque which is easily accessible traffic light to traffic light but when you ring out both engines they both will output similar straight line performance and also the BRZ would be more fun to ring out because it has a much higher red line since it's a NA engine.
Actually drove a GT86/BRZ/FRS today, and I have a MK6 Golf myself. Did not get to push the Toyota on any good roads really, but got to test it abit, did some drifts etc on an industrial area. The Toyobaru is probably a lot more fun to drive, and easier to upgrade. But in terms of quality, the golf is MILES better. I drove on a pretty big public road, and the Navigation could not even find the road. The road noise is almost unbearable compared to the Golf at 50~ Miles per hour. And the golf is even last gen, and has bigger wheels/lower profile tires. And also, the golf has a turbo, so with a tune on it, it easily gets 50~hp more, and with an exhaust and a manifold you'll get 100hp. For that you need a 5-6k kit on the Toyobaru. For pure driving, id rather have the Toyobaru. But to live with, since I almost could not bare with it for the 30 mins I was driving. Id go with the German, all day every day.
The GTI is a far better road car and high speed platform. Even with an 100 hp advantage put some $600 Dunlop Direzza's on the BRZ and you cant keep up with it on any medium sized track.
I've got a '14 6 Speed 4dr GTI and I love it...about to put some coilovers on it and get a tune and I think it'll be even better. I've loved it so far, fun little car. Of course it sucks not having RWD, but its still lots of fun.
Absolutely love my MK5 GTi, I’m building it up slowly. I’d love to race on a track like that in my car! Compared to the 2013 FRS I drove in the GTI wins lol.
I was interested to hear them make a judgement on which is the better car overall. Though I suppose since they are so fundamentally different that would be a difficult decision to make. I guess the GTI camp should be proud that they were just 2 ticks behind a car that was designed for the track and sacrifices all daily driver attributes to do so.
I like your videos, but I wish you would leave specs up a little longer, they flash up so fast I can't read them and you don't read them out loud, so I have to go back and pause the video.
***** That's what I'm doing. I like to examine the specs and consider them for a second, so when they pop up I don't have the chance to do that. It's not a major complaint, just a concern.
The GTI really isn't a ton faster than the BRZ. Motortrend got 14.9@94.4 from a BRZ, 14.8@94.3 from an FR-S and 14.7@95.8 from a GTI with DSG. It just feels faster because of the torque. I guess on the track the torque would matter more than in a drag race though.
Torque is a big deal everywhere. Anyone who has ever driven a Mazda RX-8 knows that horsepower doesn't really matter that much at all, without torque your car feels sluggish. That's what's so great about turbochargers. If tuned correctly, they offer peak torque at very low RPMs.
Kev50027 Cars may feel sluggish. In fact they are not. Turbos with very good bottom end have a problem. Poor top end. Yes a very well designed turbo (the GTI being one of the best) will be faster around town. Between 5000 rpm and its redline it is at a disadvantage over free-er breathing N/A high winding 4's. The RX-8 is faster than the GTI balls out. The BRZ is much slower than the GTI around town. Keep the BRZ above 5000 rpm and it is just as fast as the GTI. The GTI makes 30 more real world hp than the BRZ and almost 100 lb-ft more torque. The GTi's torque advantage disappears quickly at high rpm were the BRZ's torque remains strong past 7000 rpm.. The GTI is 400 pounds more. So both cars have about the same PTW ratio. Point being that in a drag race the cars are evenly matched. On the track the BRZ has an advantage. I am talking about manual cars. The VW DSG has an advantage in acceleration that the BRZ can not overcome.
fatboy19831 I agree with all of that, however, on a dyno most mk6 gti's make about 220 whp (See APR's dyno test results of stock 2013 gti). VW and other german brands under-estimate their horsepower ratings. Even though you lose the torque between about 6000-7000, there's plenty of horsepower afterwards which is why the trap speed is higher on the gti then the brz, as in the motortrend comparison above.
Cody Angstadt Again that is for the DSG car. Manual BRZ vs Manual GTI are dead even in an all out drag race. The 25 or so more hp comes with 400 pounds of mass. The DSG GTI is an amazing car (when it works correctly).
If you're struggling to figure out if you should purchase a GTI or brz(frs,86) then i have a solution. Get the GTI or fiesta st for daily driving. Seems like the most pratical thing for a normal human with friends that love fun cars. You can buy a new 2017 GTI s (plaid interior for about $22k). And buy an older miata for the track for 2-5k depending on year and condition and use that for the track. a 2017brz is about 27k or 29k for performance package with brembos. I'd rather have a good daily and a fun track car that wont break the bank. brz is just too impractical and expensive for a normal middle class person that wants a fun daily. Great car, great engineering, but too expensive unless you buy used and find a great deal. but if you got the money then you go for it.
The BRZ/FRS needs more torque at least 180 ft lbs instead of 151 ft lbs. I wonder what was Toyota/Subaru's reasoning for the low torque? Hopefully that will change soon.
The only reason the GTI is a "rocket ship" in a straight line is because those little tiny turbos produce a bit of boost because theyre so small this is also why the GTI will pass the BRZ because the turbo just brings more torque into the car because it takes no effort to spool them up. Ive driven an audi a4 2.0T and trust me after 70ish mph it takes a while to get up towards 100mph. This comparison is stupid one is a 2 door coupe while the other is a 5 door hatchback. Dont take my words above to harsh theyre both amazing cars and have potential for massive power but theyre to different from eachother
fatboy19831 correct. It's a little weird here in the US because we had to wait in extra year to get the mark 7 gti. europe got it a year earlier if i recall.
Next time these guys need to both be shown driving both cars and have the same level of driving and not afraid to drive regardless of the car they are in. I be leave the times would be different and show more accurate results. Or have a PRO driver that does the driving with them in riding shot-gun.
GTI FTW, lets be realistic, on the road they will both take a corner, and rolling start with either car, gti is gonna win, and not forgetting, vw has under powered so that the new owner has the opportunity to chip, induction, or even exhaust system to unleash its potential, brz is shit!
DevasionX taken into consideration the gti has a very tiny turbo, unlike its bigger brother, the R, which also has a little turbo... a fair size would be gt28- gt30, and then the gti would be a complete different story...
Emmanuel George what also plays a role is inertia and compression rate, the Boxer engine has very little to no vibration and has a compression rate of i assume 11 or 12 to 1, which an engine that is factory turbo-ed has around 8 or 9 to 1. the gti engine is power wise more dependable of its turbo.
AutoGuide.com That would be even more appreciated, actually when I drove Fiesta ST, I felt it was way way better than Focus ST, even though it didnt have more than 200 hp it felt nearly as fast or faster than Focus over corners In my mind Fiesta ST has only 1 -ve thats the interior design which is confusing to use, if I am to be critical the ride was very firm as well, but all is forgiven before its stellar performance
The Fiesta ST is just as much fun as the BRZ..... Many test on the net...... It could go ether way. The BRZ is a better handling car- The Fiesta has more torque and better tires. It is also 50 pounds lighter than the BRZ. The BRZ power band is better suited for the track. I loved the Fiesta ST I drove. I liked the ride and the steering. I hated the Focus ST. Gear box and clutch was remote it was very difficult to launch traction control on or off. Torque steer is a problem also.
Hi guys im deciding what car to buy that will help me start racing. Im considering the gti because it is turbo and you can get more power cheaper. However it is front wheel drive and im not sure about reliability. Should i go with brz and leave na
I have a FRS and I’ve beaten a (s2000 video on my channel) Turbo Genesis 2.0, Camaro RS, focus ST, and many others that are supposed to be faster and I beat them because I weight 500-1000lbs LESS than them the s2000 I beat because I have more aggressive gearing the FRS isn’t the fastest but it’s definitely not slow
Why is that every video ive seen that compare any other coupe to the brz they always use a auto version. Why? Are they afraid of making the brz look slow when compared to similar coupes? Not hating just legitimately curious.
I wouldn't buy a dsg gearbox, it isn't reliable, I have heard complaints about the dsg where it broke down after just 30.000 km and that just isn't good enough, so stick with the Manuel transmission
I own two VWs, both with DSG tansmissions. One has about 60,000 miles on it and one has about 40,000 miles, and I haven't had any issues with the cars.
Actually the DSG is very reliable. My sister has a 2006 Jetta TDI DSG with 200,000 miles on it. It shuddered in town when it was new, so she took it to VW to get reflashed, now it is great in the city. My uncle now have a 2012 Jetta TDI DSG and it shuddered in town, he took it to VW, they reflashed it and it was great.
Suggest though really only the PDK is better - the speed of up and down on the DSG is amazing. I drive manual myself but just because I enjoy shifting gears - DSG though is very quick and I was tempted by the added tech despite the $1000 extra cost.
"Its a two door coupe that just screams performance vehicle from a mile away" LMFAO WHAT PERFORMANCE?? 151ft/lbs of torque? You guys seriously are ridiculous
And it isn't 'Ibs/ft'. Torque isn't a vector division of force and distance. It is vector multiplication of force and distance so the proper way to label it is 'Ibs*ft'
Hi everyone... Buy GTI... I own mark 5 DSG... If u can afford buy 6 or 7 ... or buy golf r or AUDI S3 2007 up... faster means nothing. I hope more people can and will drive Golfs and Audis' all the best people. Subaru BRZ or Toyota 86 great cars but imo no need to compare them with Das Auto
Despite the nice reviews, I'd probably never buy a BRZ. Why? Coz even though I showed unflinching loyalty to my local Scooby "un-dealership" they still wouldn't let me test drive one. They seem to have a ton of pre-owned ones now with about 20k miles on em... is this just my area (New England), or that particular dealership? Do people generally hang on to their BRZs? What about FRSs? Ok so this comment went from a gripe to a question...
***** First, attacking someone out of nowhere without any reason is basically doing it to yourself. Like yelling that to your own mirror image. Second, based on your name, you are a guy. I am a guy, too. However, I have no interest in male genitals. So no thx for the offer. I am not interest. For a tip, if you are too lonely, there's this thing call masturbation and xxx videos. Google them.
i mean don't get me wrong, i drive a VW and like it. but its not a purpose built as the BRZ. plus although I've never driven the golf R i heard that the awd system isn't all that great
Why is the gti not auto trail breaking? The gti is not is no where a rocket in the straights. The feel in the wheel is non existant. Your inpressions review could not be further from the truth. You should also run them head to head and see which one passes the other.
I came here because I'm looking for my next car and a BRZ and VW are on the list (yes I know this is from 4yrs ago), but w/in the first few minutes I realized this was typical AG nonsense. I'm not sure what passes as auto-journalism in Canada because this is downright bad - even the Straight Pipes are better and I can't stand them (mostly Yuri). "track like" is very different from "daily life". I'm in 14yo Mk4 GTI and I'm looking to see if there is anything out there to get me out of a VW (Honda and Mazda make good arguments too) and the BRZ is on the list because it can be had w/3 pedals. Well, I guess it is on to the next video as this one didn't answer any questions.
It is ridiculous to compare vehicles where one has a manual transmission and the other is automatic. Auto's suck a ton of energy from the acceleration... AND manual transmissions makes a big difference decelerating into corners...
I’m calling bs no way the gti lost to a brz as someone who’s owned both cars I can say the gti is not only faster but has better handling than the brz although I do agree with what he said about the breaks they do feel pretty long after a while of hard driving
"Not sure why the shiftier looks like a golf ball" Sigh, And they call themselves professionals
***** fuck you too :)
Lmao
Why is it a golf ball? I searched around on the internet and couldnt find anything.
Tyler Strong Volkswagen GOLF.
Yeah lol I'm sitting in a freekin Golf. Wtf does the shifter look like a golf ball in a Golf? Dumbass and those plaid seats are a throw back to the original doushe.
Plaid seats are classic dude. Don't diss the seats. Don't.
I love the classic signature cues on the gti like the gold ball gear shifter, the seat pattern and red strip on the grill
The reason the plaid seats and the golf ball shifter are there is a nod to the Mk. 1 GTi. They were features on the first versions of the GTi.
I owned few fancy cars to include E46 M3 and E39 M5
and as a daily driver I still think GTI is one of the best cars out there.
Agreed i've driven a TTS and a BMW Z4 but my Mk6 GTI is wonderful I do plan on tuning it up the 260hp and 280-290 tq mark but that's only cause that's the sweet spot for me in terms of power.

They install Organic pads on American VWs, get your hands on some Jurids, Textar or any other European pad for you GTI and then you will have BRAKES!
"I'm really not sure why it has a golf ball as a shift knob "
Clearly you know nothing about gti's, let alone, volkswagen in general. SMH.
Did you stop listening at that point? That's why his very next words are, "I GUESS IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE NAME."

talk about biased. lmao
How so?
If chunky and skinny switched cars they would be about equal times on the track...
LMAO!!
The BRZ has NO TORQUE!!!!
because he doesnt have turbo

No one said that the BRZ is the better all rounder. The BRZ is undoubtedly the better second car than a WRX though. If I own a already practical awd SUV and looking for a second car, why the hell would I chose a WRX over a BRZ as my weekend fun car?
The WRX is a better daily driver.
The BRZ is a better sports car.
Sports cars aren't practical.
My chest-less prom date actually drives an FRS... Explains a lot!
The GTI has a golf ball shifter for nostalgia. The original GTI had a golf ball shifter.
This is Golf GTI Wolfsburg edition 235 hp, not 200!
Original GTI - 211hp.
It is only 200hp in America.
7:03 If that's the case then why compare them?
The GTI is a nice hatch if you need one, but the BRZ is just an other dimension of sport car. The better comparision for the brz is the cayman, which feels very similiar to the brz, but with more performance in any way, except in fun on driving on very twisty roads, its just easier to have fun without the need of pushing it hard in the brz.I own both btw.
+YXC CXY Its so slow tho.
Well the brz is 8sec atleast to 100kph and the polo gti is 7. So yea its a fair bit fastrr.
James Lovett The BRZ is 6.4 0-60. You are reading the automatic time which has longer gear ratios.
www.caranddriver.com/scion/fr-s. Read '6.4 sec'
Very nice edit, simple et cool! Love that
The "basically anything made before 1990" comment was embarrassing. What a punk statement.
Awesome. Thank you for these vids!!
Absolutely love my MK5 GTi, I’m building it up slowly. I’d love to race on a track like that in my car!
Compared to the 2013 FRS I drove in the GTI wins lol.
These are both nice cars. I'd get the GTI because it seems more practical. It's one of my dream cars! :D
If you get the dsg be prepared to spend lots lots of $ on gas ⛽ (premium) only , other than. That is a great car 🚗
@@CA-cn9tk The manual takes premium too
I was interested to hear them make a judgement on which is the better car overall. Though I suppose since they are so fundamentally different that would be a difficult decision to make. I guess the GTI camp should be proud that they were just 2 ticks behind a car that was designed for the track and sacrifices all daily driver attributes to do so.
The shift knob looks like a golf ball to pay homage to the original GTI's golf ball looking shiftier.
I like your videos, but I wish you would leave specs up a little longer, they flash up so fast I can't read them and you don't read them out loud, so I have to go back and pause the video.
wow internets so hard much fast specs read me very like
MrEdsfedup Apparently English is hard too..
***** That's what I'm doing. I like to examine the specs and consider them for a second, so when they pop up I don't have the chance to do that. It's not a major complaint, just a concern.
Kev50027 wow much english, so read. specs so fast. concern
Much specs, so fast.... WOW
Got rid of my e46 m3 for 2012 gti. Don't even care about less horsepower than the m3. The gti is so much more comfortable to drive and still quick
Why do people always talk about mustangs compared to these cars? Not in the same class...
Dont take my words above to harsh theyre both amazing cars and have potential for massive power but theyre to different from eachother
my mother's1.8t bug has more torque than the toyobaru lmao
best comment
So the only thing the BRZ has on the GTI is that in the hands of a skilled driver it is only slightly faster around a track?
probably the looks too.
True.
I don't know, something about that German design wins me over any Japanese cars.
+Incredibility565 i agree but accept that others may differ in their opinion
Joseph Gries I never implied that I have no respect for different opinions, hence why I said "wins ME over"
Edition 35 is the 235 bhp not the Wolfsburg.
Did the GTI have the electronic locking differential?
Yes, although it's not really a differential at all. It's really just braking of the inside wheel in a corner to even-out the torque distribution.
No Diff. The 2015 GTI will have it as an option.
fatboy19831 correct. It's a little weird here in the US because we had to wait in extra year to get the mark 7 gti. europe got it a year earlier if i recall.
Michael Romano Vw has a good reputation in Europe. I think they work out the first year bugs there. They try to hit the ground running in the US.
Emmanuel George and so the BRZ is underpowered, turbo it up and tune it and it rocks 450 horsepower.
I'll take that Porsche at 4:49 lol
Ford Focus ST vs Subaru BRZ please
Based on our past lap times the Focus ST would destroy the BRZ. However, we are working on a Fiesta ST vs BRZ comparo!!!
AutoGuide.com
i
AutoGuide.com That would be even more appreciated, actually when I drove Fiesta ST, I felt it was way way better than Focus ST, even though it didnt have more than 200 hp it felt nearly as fast or faster than Focus over corners
In my mind Fiesta ST has only 1 -ve thats the interior design which is confusing to use, if I am to be critical the ride was very firm as well, but all is forgiven before its stellar performance
jandj Godwin The fiesta is highly underrated.
Have a GTI but would buy a Toyobaru in a second if I didn't need four doors and rear seat room. Also people who hate on the plaid hate fun.
Left foot braking is the key.
A lot of butthurt VW fanboys here -__-
GTI fanboy tears are the best lubricant for them to get screwed at the track
***** Dude! Thats our mother!!! Dammit incest is bad!!! Get back in your VW cage.
"Not sure why the shifter looks like a golf ball" ?? Cause it's a golf GTI
which track did they test the cars at?
Hi guys im deciding what car to buy that will help me start racing. Im considering the gti because it is turbo and you can get more power cheaper. However it is front wheel drive and im not sure about reliability. Should i go with brz and leave na
We love the BRZ because it's simple and reliable. Not super fast, but it's a great teacher to help you get started in racing. Thanks for watching!
GTI > BRZ
I've tested both of these cars and would love to own either one but i love the simplicity of the interior of the BRZ/Fr-S and i miss RWD
***** you have to do better than that
***** Ah shit.. i thought this would go a little longer, your no fun.
2014 gti I hear has a lot better handling. cant wait for it to arrive to north america
Deja Vu
nobody gonna mention the prius wheels oh nonono
didn't you post this video a while ago?
I have a FRS and I’ve beaten a (s2000 video on my channel) Turbo Genesis 2.0, Camaro RS, focus ST, and many others that are supposed to be faster and I beat them because I weight 500-1000lbs LESS than them the s2000 I beat because I have more aggressive gearing the FRS isn’t the fastest but it’s definitely not slow
Why is that every video ive seen that compare any other coupe to the brz they always use a auto version. Why? Are they afraid of making the brz look slow when compared to similar coupes? Not hating just legitimately curious.
Regardless of the performance, a coupe looks much much better than a hatchback
great review
In UK the edition 35 has 235bhp
Not 200 that's mk5
I wouldn't buy a dsg gearbox, it isn't reliable, I have heard complaints about the dsg where it broke down after just 30.000 km and that just isn't good enough, so stick with the Manuel transmission
manual* and yeah i agree, dsg is rubbish in cities as well.
They are talking about styling not specs
They are talking about driving dynamics. Keep in mind that the BRZ weighs roughly 400 pounds lighter than a GTI so you know F=MA applies.
And it isn't 'Ibs/ft'. Torque isn't a vector division of force and distance. It is vector multiplication of force and distance so the proper way to label it is 'Ibs*ft'
+Farhan Chowdhury horsepower is top end speed. of course f=MA but also remember A*M=F lol
Sooooo, a 2 door fastback is quicker than a 4 door hatch? No way. Like a 911 vs a Deville.
The only downside, that I've seen, with the GTI is the always on ABS.
finally....something in this car that actually resembles a golf
2 seconds is a big gap. especially gti has 50+ more torque.
Reupload?
Yea. Unfortunately we had to fix something in the original.
Ok so this comment went from a gripe to a question...
vw cc rline or sport plus vs kia optima turbo
The appetite of the Internet. Well said!

Do all GTI.S have turbo?
Yes. The Golf doesn't, but the GTI does.
No the Mk4 GTI came in a Vr6 version.
Levi Price The GTI is a Golf. Also, all but one of the engines in the new Golf are turbocharged TSI engines. The exception being the 1.6 FSI.
OspreyBravo18 The R32 was a VR6 but the mk4 GTI either came as a 2.0 n/a or a 1.8 turbo.
OlyH08 MK4 also came in VR6 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Golf_Mk4 you can find them on craigslist
what is luxurious about the gti?
Brandon Roveta the mpg..
if u ever driven on the 405 in so cal like i do dailly gti all the way.
The 2015 GTI is great.
I bet a golf r would eat the brz for breakfast.
and theres a turbo version of the brz coming out so we'll see what happens
You would lose that bet. At least on the track.
i mean don't get me wrong, i drive a VW and like it. but its not a purpose built as the BRZ. plus although I've never driven the golf R i heard that the awd system isn't all that great
john head The 15 Golf R will be faster than the BRZ. 300 hp and you will be able to turn off the electronics. It will also be close to 40 grand.
fatboy19831 will be faster than a turbo BRZ?
W , have turbocharger , BRZ or 86 much more , better design !
Why is the gti not auto trail breaking? The gti is not is no where a rocket in the straights. The feel in the wheel is non existant. Your inpressions review could not be further from the truth. You should also run them head to head and see which one passes the other.
the thing that ruins the brz is the nasty wheels and those ugly "euro light", they need to have red tint over them
does anyone care to realize that they use a goddamn manual brz vs an automatic gti. like the GTI comes with a 6 speed. mannnnnn liesss
1986 mazda rx7 nissan z all90 great handlers
The GTI has a top of 155 and you couldn't even get it over 100? What kind of race was this? Lmao
GTI ALL DAY!!
If only the US got the Euro GTI's...
I always prefer a hatchback
i like the gti
Those f ing GTIs are fast!!
I like them both
europen version golf 6 gti is 211 hp!
ISNT THIS OLD
both good fun awesome cars and people who own either or both know it! :)
Golf for practicality
It is ridiculous to compare vehicles where one has a manual transmission and the other is automatic. Auto's suck a ton of energy from the acceleration... AND manual transmissions makes a big difference decelerating into corners...
I’m calling bs no way the gti lost to a brz as someone who’s owned both cars I can say the gti is not only faster but has better handling than the brz although I do agree with what he said about the breaks they do feel pretty long after a while of hard driving
try the gti 2 door , it will be lighter
Most boring review by 'professionals'. Also questioning why the shape of the GTI's shifter is a golf ball....really?
The subaru is a toyota 86 just toyota let them use there car just change the colours and the badges
Why do the Americans call this car a VW GTI, not a VW Golf GTI?
Because in America there is only the Golf GTI. We don't get the Polo GTI or Lupo GTI.
Because in 2013 and prior, it was only called the GTI. It's only with the new models that they call it a Golf GTI.
mthomason13 Maybe in the states. In Europe its been called the Golf GTi since day 1
OlyH08 Just like The Mitsubishi Lancer and Lancer EVO.
