- There have been so many great food opportunities in Fallout that we had to hit them all: Jell-O Cake, Nuka Cola, and even Cram.

One jello cake is a concerning amount, there are ten in the span of a week in vault 33. WHY ARE THEY OBSESSED WITH THIS
Because its 50's americana and everything was jello back then. Also shelf stable so great for a nuclear bunker.
When your only options are spam and canned things I too would choose jello cake
It's one of those Vault Tech experiments, see how long it takes for people to go insane having half of their meals be jello cake.
Where are they getting all of the gelatin? 🤔
@@BrentBlueAllen vault 32
The very concept of a "Jell-O Cake" is the most 1950s dessert I've ever heard, and that makes it perfect for Fallout.
im glad he didnt make Aspic.
It's supposed to be a poke cake, you can see the streaks of jello running through the cake in the show. Molds were super popular in the 50s, but Jell-O made the recipe for the cake in the 1970s.
It's the tip of the iceberg. Popular magazines at the time would publish recipes that involved putting spam in the jello.
Throw some pineapple in there and you got a 50s cookbook cover
@@Manahyde legend has it that some of these recipes are still made and served in some family gatherings to this day
To pull out the uranium glass is somehow the weirdest but biggest flex ive seen in a while
Uranium glass actually isn't that hard to find, and can be bought fairly cheaply. I myself have a couple uranium glass cups!
What's a flex about it? It is cheap and easy to find.
@@freighter1097 well i didnt know it was that easy to find, but still a weird flex lol
There's a company called Fiesta that still exists today, whose first few batches of glassware were pretty much all laced with uranium. If you look up "Old Fiestaware" you can still find these out there.
In my mind when I hear uranium I immediately think radiation poisoning so I’m just like amazed by the concept of putting it in a glass cup to drink out of???? I guess it’s like putting charcoal in foods but still not exactly edible idk
Technological achievement in the Fallout world:
-handheld laser beams
-nuclear powered everything
-making frosting stick to Jell-O
Maybe if you put down a layer of powdered sugar or something first? Something that will stick to the jello and give the frosting something to grip, but that won't change the flavor too much.
Ironically, the one most hazardous to people is going to be that last one.
You can actually glue it with actual (edible) glue made from starch and gelatin
@@sylvirgiomanach1491 His frosting was lard; it won't stick to anything.
Nuka Cola had 120% of the daily recommended value of sugar, and it had 17 different fruit flavors. One of which was for sure passion fruit. Quantum had double the caffeine, carbohydrates, and calories and added an 18th fruit flavor, pomegranate.
A six pack of Quantum would stop an elephant
That sounds like Dr.pepper hahaha
Can't forget the "Safe for human consumption" amount of Strontium-90
It originally had passion fruit, but the Great Passion Fruit Famine of 2044 forced it out of the recipe. People could tell.
(at least according to Sierra Petrovita in Fallout 3.)
@@SimuLordyea but it was added back into the formula later.
I know I’m being a bit nitpicky, but Nuka Cola actually contains seventeen fruit essences, not seven.
I dont think Ive seen any accurate recipes for nukacola even the official cookbook recicpe doesnt seem like it would actually make nukacola
@@Frankoman64 The FDA would likely take a dim view on adding radioactive materials to food products, so I doubt you will, either.
@@hrodgathat’s just Quantum.
Radithor, anyone?
@@Justanotherconsumer All variants of Nuka Cola give rads though. Sunset Sarsaparilla giving none implies to me that they all have something radioactive as an ingredient, Quantam just has more.
@@NavyPheonix Not all. Just the more common ones. I think most of the ones added in the DLC don't add rads and at least ones reduces them. All the ones made in the mixer are definitely rad free.
That cake turned more and more nightmare like. The only redeeming quality was the jiggle. JIGGLE JIGGLE
it folds!
I’d like to see it WIGGLE WIGGLE
I got spurs, that jiggle jiggle jiggle
@@GhostchickieFor sure. Ridin in a Fiat, you really gotta see it.
A Cake, that jiggle-jaggle-jiggles
I feel like in the fallout universe, cram is almost certainly an unholy amalgam of genetically modified animals, lab grown tissue, synthetic protein matrix, and mechanically separated chicken, beef, pork, and turkey. Probably all labeled as something like 'natural and artificial non-human protein sources'
Like Food Paste!
but with less "Pink-Jaundice inducing hard drugs" and more "perfected insulation from microbes".
Then any wastelander who reuses the tin just hastily scratches out "probably" above the "non-human" part.
In an irradiated apocalyptic hellscape, non-human protein is a real luxury.
@@gabbonoo Try 'perfected hostile environment to microbes'
I embrace this future
Some Fancy Lads Snack Cakes woulda been perfect.
Or the Yum Yum Deviled Eggs!
@jason4443 is a synth! Stop em from taking us!
You must be a synth 🤨
I’m more a Dandy Boy Apple boy
There’s so many episodes that could be done about fallout lol, there are all the pre war stuff, the soda’s, all the recipes in 76
Should have used some passionfruit extract for the Nuka Cola. It's noted that a passionfruit shortage changed the taste.
'have your ghost open it for you' was funnier than i expected
caught me off guard
...if you have one
The nuka cola is probably the closest yet but still far from the actual recipe I'd imagine, it's actually the essence of 17 fruits not 7 and a major one being passion fruit as during the Great Passion Fruit Famine of 2044 "people actually noticed the taste difference when the flavor was changed".
Other than that, definitely closer than the official cookbook recipe.
To add to this, pomegranate is not in the default nuka cola recipe, but we can start to theorise what probably is.
-Lemon
-Lime
-Orange
-Passion fruit
This is official we know this.
-Kola nut? If we include the kola nut we're up to 5 already, what about the other 12?
Well if we take some notes from Dr Pepper we're ending up with
-Cherry
-Vanilla
-Blackberry
-Apricot (Substituted with peach maybe, part of the same family with similar flavour profiles).
-Plum
Now we're at 10, 7 left.
Using in game knowledge we can deduce that the other unique flavours are probably also part of the recipe just in higher quantities in those variants.
-Cranberry
-Grape
We need 5 more, we can guess it may include pear as Nuka Orange was developed using pear brandy as a base.
-Pear
4 more, now we're left with plenty of options out of the top 20 "tastiest" fruits.
-Peach?
-Mango?
-Kiwi?
-Strawberry?
-Raspberry?
-Grapefruit?
-Melon?
We can try to guess based on popularity, so your final recipe might be.
-Lemon
-Lime
-Orange
-Passion fruit
-Mango
-Strawberry
-Grapefruit
-Melon
-Cranberry
-Grape
-Pear
-Cherry
-Vanilla
-Blackberry
-Peach
-Plum
-Kola nut
Am I going insane trying to figure out the real Nuka Cola recipe? Yes.
Can we get a series of FALLOUT Cooking.
Cause the amount of food in the fallout franchise is abundant.
There's an official book
Mmmm iguana on a stick
his recipe will probably be Alligator on a Stick.
@@JTL1776 or actual iguana. Because you can actually eat them. Though the legality in the states is questionable.
Check out MisoHungrie, he reviews official licensed cookbooks and he's done several Fallout episodes (including his own Jello cake)
C'mon Babish, you should have gone for some Iguana on a Stick.
Yeah, and he should recreate Doc Morbid's recipe.
Mystery meat tastes oddly like pork...
Death claw omelete ❤
Iguana on a stick is actually iguana, but iguana bit is more interesting
FYI, baking powder isn't shelf-stable. The acid and base components react together over time. That's why old boxed mixes of things stop rising when they get old.
Feels like it's been a while since we had a normal binging with babish episode
Yeah, I fear we are getting close to jumping the shark
Two weeks.
Is this episode not normal?
@@tylero354 It is normal. It used to be all this channel was. Just Binging with Babish. Nowadays it's mixed in with a lot of other episodes like Basics or Anything/Anime with Alvin. Not that I am complaining. Just saying it's nice to see an old school type video
He keeps passing the buck to Alvin which is normally fine i like alvin but i watch the show for the original creator 😂
The Cram actually sounds delicious. Well done.
"a hotdog made with bacon" sounds amazing
Especially if it's nitrate/trite free!
@@epl803 That reminds me of a small West Coast burger restaurant chain called Slater's 50/50. Burgers are made with half ground beef and half bacon.
@@SeoulMan It's not, its got Prog powder in it. Necessary to get that preserved/processed meat flavor, and adds a little bit of pink color to the meat. Without prog powder, it would be very white.
I love that Babish wants to use self stable ingredients but players of the game know that it would have been the same prepackaged Jell-O we all know and love (just under a different name).
Probably "Gell-O"...

Uranium fever!
With a Geiger counter in my hand, I'm going out to stake me some government land!
You forgot to add the steady crackle of the Geiger counter after you ate!
Crisco frosting, that brings back memories of Saturday morning cartoons and cake scraps for breakfast
Right? My Grandma was a Wilton trained baker and used to do cakes for people, and she'd put the leftover Crisco based frosting in graham crackers for us to have as a treat every so often. I miss those. Might try to make em sometime.
The vintage Jello molds and uranium glass were nice touches. You really went the extra mile on this one.
Too bad he didn't research what actual jello cake is though, could have saved him some hassle...
@@ToaPaul959 that is mostly an error on the shows part as if you go to the beginning that's what the Jello cake is fallout looks like for some reason
Ordinary Sausage connoisseurs know all about the wonders of butter powder
Babish actually made the soda radioactive but he forgot the passion fruit
Classic authenticity
Could you imagine Babish doing the full Fallout Cookbook - imagine him serving his family and friends Baked Bloatfly, Deathclaw Steak, Mirelurk Omelettes, Vim Captain's Blend (with real fish) and Mole Rat Wonder Meat Dip (with authentic Wonderglue)
Would have been cooler than fake jello cake at least those are in the games
You know there is an actual fallout cookbook right?
@@camo770 nope I didn't know but I know that jello cake is from the show tho 😂

I’m still waiting for Bimbish to stop being a coward and answer Mr Sausage’s challenge.
Mr. Sausage wouldn't have gotten assaulted in a mental health ward, I can tell you that.

Carrot Pie from 2011 The Looney Tunes Show episode, "Newspaper Thief"
Glad to see Andrew back. He has been missed.
I knew of powdered milk and eggs, but never knew of powdered butter.
That's not real jello cake though. Jello cake has been around a long time. It's also known as poke cake. It doesn't have real frosting, you're supposed to use cool whip! And jello cake is rarely layered. It's made in a sheet cake style, you poke little holes in the cooled caked and pour the unset jello over the top, then refrigerate overnight until set and cover with cool whip. My fave combo is lemon cake and orange or lime jello.
Yes, this! It's delicious and one of my favorite deserts at potlucks and family dinners here in the midwest

Where is my perfectly preserved pie?
3:42 at once, a thousand pineapple souls cried out in horror, but were suddenly silenced
i live in the midwest, and we actually have an old recipe for a cake that includes jello mix in it. it is the most moist cake I've ever had, and (I think?) has strawberries in it as well. it's worth looking up a recipe for- my mom made it for birthdays when I was a kid.
I have also had the midwest jello cake of which you speak, I was incredibly confused by what he made. Like, that was just a cake with some jello sitting on top.
Yeah same here, it's a staple of almost every family gathering or potluck. It's most certainly not slapping a large molded jello on top of a regular cake. I don't think the babish team actually did any research on this...
I've made Jello cake by baking a cake, poking holes in it, and pouring Jello over it. I thought that's what this was going to be, but it wasn't.
@@ToaPaul959 Unfortunately that's not a Babish error, it's a Fallout error. That's how they make the cake in the show.
Please do make the blamco mac and cheese
I heard "butter powder" and immediately thought of Ordinary Sausage.
When's that collab happening, Babish??
This food looks _Bomb AF_ 💣
Baking, baking with babish never changes!
Suggestion: Tom Servo’s lunch from the Gunslinger episode of MST3K.
A peanut butter and dijonnaise sandwich, and a Snapple.
Day 200 of petitioning Babish to make the Triple Fried Egg Sandwich with Chilli Sauce and Chutney from Red Dwarf. Day 200 guys, that took longer than expected. But I will persevere.
Solidarity, buddy. I haven't even been counting how many days I've been requesting foods from Homestar Runner, but I know it's up there.
This would actually be amazing, I want to see this so bad now!
Gotta get that suudsu
@@How-Do-I-Nezzy There's got to be a recipe for a "stick of butter" that only looks like it instead of being an actual stick of butter. You could hit Homestar Runner and Brooklyn 99 in the same episode.
it never ceases to amaze me how much pigment is in caramel color but caramel color is literally just carbonized sugar... it's super duper duper concentrated burned caramel lol
Andrew, thank you for everything that you have done in building this community. I’ve been a long time viewer, first time commenter lol. But, from the bottom of my heart thank you for everything you have done.
I had jello cake for my birthday. My mom uses powdered jello into the white cake mix instead of food coloring. It's moist, slightly sticky, every layer is its own color, and own flavor. It's delicious! I have it every year!

Next up: 200 year-old deviled eggs in a cardboard box!
You should do the meaturduckballizza from The Thundermans. It's Meatloaf wrapped in Turkey wrapped in Duck wrapped in Meatballs wrapped in Pizza. Food magazine named it Food of the Year!
Was the el burgadito not enough for you animals?!
Well done!
Also, still hoping for a Bubba's Shrimp Part 3 at some point
Not me just realizing Spam (and Cram) is basically just heavily processed boiled pork meatloaf
I was hoping for the 200+ year-old 'perfectly preserved pie', but the jello cake was pretty great.
“I don’t want to see tomorrow, unless I see it with you “
How did the Coke taste?
Original cake mix used powdered eggs and oil, but it didn't sell very well since people didn't think you could get a cake out of it by just adding water. So they removed the powdered eggs and oil and added directions on the box and they sold great because people now felt like they were baking.
Anyone else want a show where Babish takes viewer-submitted home recipes (old family recipes, stuff someone accidentally threw together for lunch, etc.) and tests/improves them?

So cool! I can't wait for the Dandy Boy Apples, Fancy Lads Snack Cakes, Blamco Mac and Cheese, and Mirelurk Cake.
Got my sister some antique blue glass for a present. We tried to look up if blue glass was safe and the interwebs declared "definitely maybe".
I was hoping for buzz bites scolding hot coffee inside of donut holes that stays hot for over 200 years.

The omission of passionfruit flavor in the Nuka Cola is giving me flashbacks to the great Passion Fruit Famine of 2044. Oh the humanity. Also it's 17 fruit essences, according to the Independent Fallout Wiki and Nuke Cola Historian Sierra Petrovita. (This was great though)
Every time they showed the jello cake on the show I was thinking I’d have to have been starved to want to eat that. The cola looked awesome in that glass!
Next Fallout episode should include some Iguana Bits 😉
Available for the picking in Florida. 😁
Has to be on a stick
IGUANA BITS ARE MADE OF PEOPLE-
Iguana bits coming? 😅
Iguana bits is canonically human meat
The flavor varies from person to person.

I'VE BEEN WAITING SO LONG FOR THIS.
Someone call Mrs.Fallout, she'll want to see this
Hey, Andrew, are you okay, you seem pretty out of it. I don’t know if it’s the subject matter, the recipes, or the grind but you can take a break if you need one.
I have never seen jello cake in person in my life. I’ve only seen pictures of it from the 1950s
Awesome video; I’ve watched my family play this game for years, then came the series, now the recipes!! You guys are great!
YESSS! IVE BEEN WAITIN FOR A FALLOUT EP
Yessss. I love when they do stuff from movies and shows.

If you ever do Fallout again I'd love to see you make the cereal from the show/game sugar bombs, a breakfast cereal shaped like nuclear bombs
Nuka Cola is something I've been looking forward to Babish making since I discovered his channel.
At no point was I not a little concerned about what you were doing. 10/10 perfectly captured the essence of fallout as much as you could without directly poisoning yourself. Love this video!
I love Binging with Babish episodes ❤️
Yet another great video, solid work. I've always loved the comedic style of this channel. I have a small food channel myself and this channel has definitely had an impact on me, I admire it greatly. I hope to have an audience like this myself someday
I thought the jello cake would be a "jello poke cake," which i made recently, and it spooked me. This video was up, but that is more on brand for fallout era food. Neat all the same.
okay, that glass is dope
I've missed this channel so much I'm not sure why I wasn't getting notifications, but I'm glad I found this video
i’ve been watching this guys for abour 3-4 years now, one of my firsts being red dead redemption 2 stew, so him doing my current favorite game franchise means soooooo much to me this is great might have to even do these recipes one day lol
