I'm impressed with how thorough this explanation is. Seriously impressed. Also the production value and audio quality is excellent. This show should get more views.
I bought this game because of your video, just played our first match last night and it was really easy to figure out. I think mainly because of your video I knew what I was getting into. It was a ton of fun, thanks so much you do great work!!
Top notch quality on your tutorials, a congenial pedagogue! Found your channel through the secret cabal podcast. Keep up the good work! Cheers from Sweden
I think this game is one of the most cleverly designed I have ever played. The game system is so simple, but the amount of depth in that simplicity is staggering. Not only in a simple 1 v 1 duel, but also the flexibility of the system. It's like the Swiss Army knife of my collection. There are so many modes of play and so many variants within those mode that exploring it all will take a LONG LONG time.
Love battlecon. Played a bit of War of Indines and recently got Devastation (which I haven't played yet sadly)... man that game was a BEAST to unbox, I still have no idea where to put some of the stuff that comes in that box, or if I did it properly. Either way, this game is REALLY fun, I was quite surprised to see a fighting game like this to work so well in a non-video game format.
***** That sounds nice... gonna have to wait for it to become available on their website, see how much it costs. So far I think my box is properly set up... possibly... but that does seem like a better, less annoying solution.
Great explanation, even if I almost fell asleep towards the end (literally, but that's because I have only slept for two hours). So basically, tokens are provided, you start with all of your cards in your hand and characters in the mentioned spots, then discard two attack pairs at your choice. After that you choose an attack pair face down and start the token ante-ing until both players pass. Attack pairs are revealed and all effects solved (damage, soak and stuns included) in priority order. Then recycle occurs, tokens are replaced if necessary and you discard used pair and recover the first one of the two initial discards, then advance timer unless an effect specifies otherwise. Please let me know if I missed something or got something wrong.
Thank you for showing me this game Rodney!! I got it for my birthday and it is AMAZING! Your video made it super easy for me to learn the game. Also what is your favorite character? Mine is my Dark Lord Byron Krane (I added the "Dark lord" part) :D
At 4:21 you say to put two style and two base cards into the discard pile, but it seems you put four of the same. I'm learning the game and just checking if I'm missing something there.
Really like the look of this and am thinking about getting it! I'm wondering if you have played the battle con: fate of indines standalone expansion and if I should start out with just that or go ahead and get the full on big box. Thanks for the great walkthroughs!!
I was reading the comments and someone asked basically the same thing and it was answered by someone else so never mind! but thanks again for the great work on your channel!!
AWESOME game! I agree with MrJobocan on the box situation. It was so cram packed with stuff it is unreal! Question Rodney: I have the Kickstarter. Does the retail version have the arena cards in it?
I think it is awesome that you still are answering questions on here. Do you still play this game or have you moved on. I just got it about two weeks ago and I'm having a blast. Its hard to find people to play with sometimes but the battle quest single player mode is awesome. I have played through the first one twice and it is surprisingly hard. Anyway thanks for the video.
My shooting schedule does make it trickier for me to play old favoriutes on a repeated basis, as I am typically checking out new games to be featured, but I am very pleased to hear you've been enjoying the game!
Thank you for the detailed review seven years ago. Now I only have one question left: Which version do I buy? There are like 3 different versions on Boardgamegeek and I have kind of a hard time to figure out which one is the base game... Any suggestions or enlightnement?
@@WatchItPlayed *Damn* you're fast on replying on a 7 year old video! Thank you very much for answering, but I think I will just get the one you got _(BatlleCON:Devastation of Indines)_ as it is on the highest rank in BGG. The game looks amazing and I am still looking for a Game with a duelist one on one thematic for my collection, which I try to keep as slim as possible and keep it to one or two games for each genre and it's kind of hard with so many great entries. Love your way to play and explain boardgames and your subtle review style on board games in your videos!
@@links-gut-versifftergrunme1809 So glad the video was helpful! (and I suspect this version is an ideal starting point). As an aside, if I'm doing my job right, there's no review element in these videos at all. They are just meant to teach the game, but hopefully, through showing the game, viewers can decide if they might be a good fit for their tastes or not. Have a great time playing!
I lent my copy out to a friend, so I can't say. Might be a good question for the forums over at Board Game Geek: boardgamegeek.com/forum/936466/battlecon-war-indines/rules
Going to chime in. You would pick side A generally when you know your opponent is a ranged character or someone who prefers to stay away, it's primary use is to lockdown your opponent for the next beat so that you could set up something like Martial Aegis or Martial Strike for example(though that's kind of predictable so maybe . Side B is for against the brawlers or close combat styled opponents, I consider it a get-out-of-jail-free card(or "be really reckless) that has the potential to do a tremendous amount of damage since it's power is 3 times the printed attack pair, Do it if you know you're going to get hit hard, maybe ante up a few tokens for more stunguard if necessary and go to town.
One other quick question: What happens to the cards in the stack after you perform a clash? At first I assumed they all went into the first discard pile, but that doesn't actually work. Let's say you keep clashing, and with each player's final base, FINALLY the two players have a different priority and the attack goes through. On the next beat... neither player has any bases in their hand to form an attack pair. Do the cards in the clash stack come back to your hand? Also, thanks so much for making all of your fantastic videos! It's gotten to the point where whenever I find a board game that interests me, one of the first things I do is head to this channel to see if there's a video on it, since your instructional videos are so clear and easy to follow, haha. They really help me decide if I think I'll enjoy the game, and make it so I already know 90% of what I need to know in order to start playing as soon as I get it. So thanks a bunch!
Really nice of you to say such kind things about the videos. Thanks Gyro :) I wish I could be of more help with your rules question. I Usually try to answer all comments, but sometimes I've been away from the game long enough that I don't recall the answers, and my copy of the game is currently lent out. For this one, you might need to check on boardgamegeek.com/
19:50, I think this is not correct based on the rulebook. If you were to ask to move 3 spaces forward, but there is only 2 spaces in front, you move 2 instead of not moving at all.
+You Win Yeap Rule book Page 24: "If a legal movement cannot be made, then the movement is ignored entirely. (ex: “Advance 3 spaces” when there are only two spaces left on the board)."
1. if a attack pair has a range of 1-4 , i understand that there will be a hit if opponent falls between 1-4 spaces away . But if a attack pair simply says range 4 , does it mean hit only works at space 4 or also works like 1-4 range ? 2. what is the difference between 'on damage' and 'on hit' ? able to quote some example ? Thanks alot.
If someone help me with this topic yet... i got this game now, and some rules is not very clear like: "lesson 1: Range - the first time one of your attack misses an opponent who is closer then its minimum range, your attack hits anyway". So that attack with range 3~6 hits the opponent in range 2 or miss?
My understanding, is that it's saying "Your range with this is 3-6 spaces away, however, if your opponent is 1 or 2 spaces away, then the first time you use this attack, it will actually hit (even though, it would normally miss because 1-2 is not within the proper range).
Yeah, i just find out. It is like you say. That cards in Devastation box is for, to teach other player the game. Thats why it seys "..your attack hits anyway, then discard this card". I didn't know what this cards was for. I thought its some kind wrong write tip:/ Thanks to be so helpfull for every your viewer, love your channel:)
you will always get stunned after any attack as long as the opponents attack is higher than your stun guard? if you dont have stun guard you will always get stunned?
That's right! Stunning occurs if your attack is higher than your opponent's stun guard. There's a few ways around getting stunned, but stun guard is the primary one.
Me, in this case. Matt is joining me again and it would be too easy for me to know what you guys were planning if you were helping him. I'll try not to mess it up :)
War has the simplier characters to begin with. Devastation has more characters, some of them are ok to begin with. Fate has harder characters but is more "updated" for tournaments. Personnaly, I have Devastation first, then War. I don't want fate and the new game "trial" because 48 characters is far enough :) I don't care about tournaments.
at some point you lost me. This is feeling a bit like the LotR:LCG to me; I want to like it, but not sure I'd be able to play this with others. (However I did manage to with Nothing Personal)
You may find that things simplify when you see the game being played. We'll be releasing those episodes soon. Then again, everyone has a different tolerance for complexity, so there's no shame in discovering a game may not be a good fit for you.
All that is true. I will see how it runs when the gameplay videos come out :D No worries, I will play any game once. Picked this up nine years later at my local game store in an auction for $20. Thank you for a fantastic breakdown of the rules!
