I am so sorry for your loss Denise, Cricket was such a sweet girl. Gentle hugs and I will be here when you get back. Take your time, your mental health is #1 priority.
Oh Denise I know how hard it is to endure a kitten-shaped hole in your heart (they’re always kittens to me no matter how old they are…). Best wishes, be well and know that you are loved and supported by your fans.
It’s always so difficult to say goodbye to our fluffy family, please take it slow and let yourself have space to grieve and heal. I’m sure you gave Cricket a wonderful long life🧡
Fascinating! The first thing that came to mind is tropical birds and only using it as an accent, maybe in some decorative applications. I have one spring green and maybe used it three times total 😅 never considered it as a mixer but now I will 💜 thank you!!!
Thank you, Anna! I was surprised at how close some of the mixes were to PY129! There's definitely enough variance that I can see preferring one or the other, but fascinating nonetheless!
I love that green. I have a character with green hair that i use it for. Made my day when i discovered it and its variations in watercolor form agter trying to achieve it with coloring pencil for so long.
I'm so sorry for your loss, been dealing with grief as well. As for the bright green, I have a love-hate relationship with it, sometimes I use it a lot, sometimes I wonder why it's on my palette at all. In any case, your spread turned out beautiful! :)
My deepest condolences on your loss. May her memory truly be a blessing. Thank you for posting this. I always yank that hue out of sets, so I have quite a few pans of it. And this gives me some great ideas for using them.
Lovely spread!! Its really funny because one of my least favorite colors when not mixed is quinacridone violet. Its hard to explain, but I’m autistic and have sensory issues and visually that paint gives me the same feeling that nails on a chalkboard does. However, I adore that paint for mixing rich deep skintones and purples. So I suffer it on the palette and mix it in as soon as possible 😅 Vibrant greens like this look pretty to me but I so rarely have a use for them, however it is useful for toning down my dreaded quin violet if I add too much.
So sorry to hear about your loss, please take all the time you need, loosing a pet is never easy. The spread was beautiful, and I never thought of all these ways to apply bright green to a painting! I’ll have to take notes for next time
I'm so glad you had a good time working with this fascinating color. I must admit, I haven't been swayed to the bright green side, I just love my earthy palettes too much! But you did a fantastic job here, I love all of these paintings, especially the parakeet! Much love and support to you in this trying time
Absolutely love this spread and video but I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Cricket. Please take as much time as you need. I would love to see you experiment with your other unloved color.
So sorry to hear about Cricket. I bought DS's Phthalo Yellow Green as a beginner, and wanting a color wheel palette influenced by Oto Kano. I regretted it but have since realized it's quite useful for florals (I painted a pink amaryllis with just Bright Rose and the Yellow Green, it neutralizes quite nicely) and also for summer landscapes (can't seem to get that bright green from other mixes!) I did miss seeing the finished spread as a whole instead of only in closeup! Also. I just used Stormy Blue this morning.
I love this spread a lot and it has inspired me to mix my greens with more colours! I have some fun brighter greens like serpentine genuine that I think could make some interesting mixes with its granulation
So sorry to hear about your loss. Losing our friends of other species is painful 😢 This bright Daniel smith phthalocyanine yellow was one of the last paints I got on my journey from single pigments to loving mixes and white pigments. The colour makes me happy. Two artists who use a similar colour are Valerie Lin and Wil Freeborn and on both their art it pops. I also got Daniel smith Christmas tree green which I hadn’t heard of before. Looks like it was around a long time ago and maybe came back? It smells of pine trees! So good. I think your art has come on leaps and bounds in recent years. I can really see it. Your work really suits a flat paintbrush.
As always....magical artwork!!!!! 💚💚💚🐸🐊🐢🦎🐍🐲🐉🦖.GREEN is my favorite color. I love this green featured I the video. I use it a lot , but I do abstract work. I recently purchased a tube of Denise's green from Da Vinci. It's gorgeous. I hope it will be around for a long time. Yes, p.ease do a video for your other no used color.😊😊😊
I'm so sorry about Cricket! It's such a painful loss. I still miss my two cats, they are family. Sending optional-to-accept hugs 🤍 And yes, would love to see the bright orange video! 😂 And also loved this one. I particularly like mixing spring green with a PR207 or PR209, love the hues! ☺️
So sorry to hear about Cricket Denise, sending you massive love and hugs from across the pond. On the video's subject, I love a bright green but generally prefer to mix my own or use a May Green and a base and then fiddle to make it not quite so neon-like! I use it for highlights, sunglows on foliage, spring foliage, as a bright flash of light in fields of wild flowers etc.
OH I LOVE THIS COLOR! I actually just replaced my Holbein Leaf Green Gouache as I had finished a tube! Love watching you explore!! I am so sad to hear about Cricket. I so hear you on losing a fur baby.
I would find any "difficult" convenience colors to use videos helpful! I find Phthalo green difficult to use. I'm sorry for the loss of your sweet kitty. They are such an integral part of our lives and give so much love. 🙏
@Alliekat423 0 seconds ago I’m very sorry for your loss of Cricket. I know that must be very difficult. I loved this video, the idea, and the resulting spread. You did great, and I think this also highlights that there are no bad colors, just different preferences and ways of using them. Take care! -Allison
Hullo Denise, I hope you are giving yourself time to grieve. Cricket has been a true friend and such a wonderful part of your journey, please know that we are sending you only the best wishes to you and her memory. I love mixing my greens and when mixing those light greens I have used DaVinci’s Leaf Green for backgrounds in animal paintings and as a core color painting those neon green frogs from the rainforest, without using any neon paints! I have also enjoyed success with DaVinci’s Yellow and Chromium Oxide Green as well as a new favorite Denise’s Green, yeah I believe that you could do a little more self promotion! Thank you for sharing this wonderful video of mixing greens! Please take care and remember the good times spent with friends no longer with us, yet living forever in our memories.
Bucketloads of sympathy for Cricket’s loss from both me and young Prospero, who’s been watching along on my lap. And thanks for this video which has assured me that the similar hole in my greens might just be a similar prejudice to yours.
I think of this color as "synthetic" green, because it is used in so much advertizing, etc. When I see it in nature, it is a bright eye-catching flash of color, whereas in modern use it's often garish and attention grabbing. I struggle to use colors for nature that are so obnoxious and ubiquitous in ads, because they feel really fake. You did an awesome job highlighting this color, and now I am ready to try embracing other colors that I feel this way about. Thanks! ❤
i’m sorry for your loss :c and aw i just saw a luna moth for the first time in ~the wild~ i had no idea they were just chilling about in the US! i was able to take some closeup pics and have been practicing painting it. this was very satisfying to watch and listen to as always 🌱🐸
Thanks for making this video. I’m still not sold on bright greens, though. Much of the paint mixes are already possible with other paints on my palette.
This green is a color you see everywhere in string in the great lakes everywhere, I never understand why people are saying it isn't natural like say a olive green. Not just this green but any flourescent color, when I go out in spring I see soo many bright colors that you just cannot get unless you mix in colors that are flourescent, you could also use them as a underlayer, mix, or secondary layers, that way you still have lightfast color, but you can have a color closer to the truth, at least for a while, tbh its kinda poetic in the way the flourescent colors will fade, just like spring fades to summer and summer fades to fall. I do believe that the flourescent colors do last longer when I layers them this way and they last even longer with UV spray and glass and or reflective plastic encasing. I will never believe these colors aren't natural because when you really look at nature you will find plants and other life that will react with blacklight and that grow all on their own. Even when you look at butterfly under uv spectrum you end up seeing what they see, which is completely different wing designs than what we see with our eyes, there are some videos here on TH-cam that provide visuals for what I'm talking about.
I mean why buy a dead colour when you can buy a more vivid one and tone it down so then you have both versions? Since you cant make a dead colour vibrant and depending on what you paint both variants are important
I am so sorry for your loss Denise, Cricket was such a sweet girl. Gentle hugs and I will be here when you get back. Take your time, your mental health is #1 priority.
Thank you, Heather. Much appreciated💜

Love the video and the spread. I would love to see another edition with what I’m guessing is a bright orange lol.
😆 you got me!
It’s always so difficult to say goodbye to our fluffy family, please take it slow and let yourself have space to grieve and heal. I’m sure you gave Cricket a wonderful long life🧡
That bright green is perfect for a lot of wildlife in Australia
So sorry to hear about Cricket.
Yes do another one of these with orange!
I’m so sorry for your loss Denise, saying goodbye to a beloved family member is never easy. Sending you Love, Hugs & Healing.
That frog is just 😘 !!

I love this video! You're entertaining and informative. Thank you for providing quality content for free.
Thank you, Savannah!
Me just looking at this gorgeous art on your thumbnail:
“How can you not?!”
So sorry to hear of Crickets passing...she was so cute! Take time to grieve...she will be missed in your videos...sending hugs from WV...🫂
I love that green. I have a character with green hair that i use it for. Made my day when i discovered it and its variations in watercolor form agter trying to achieve it with coloring pencil for so long.

13:52 I actually bought a brush with a rather blunt point for making more round/oval marks.

Thank you! It was a fun study, but I'm just as happy to run back to my earth tones 😆
I can't wait to see the aro and ace pride painings!!
PY129 is just soooo beautiful and versetile! im so sorry for your loss, take care of yourself darling!

Absolutely stunning!
Brilliant green is one of my favorite colors.
As someone still learning about watercolors and pigments, I found this video helpful. I would love to see another!
Thank you, and welcome to watercolor pigments!
Very nice spread (-: Marion 🎉

Lovely painting. I use it a fair amount but I mostly do botanicals.
Thank you, Shannon.

BTW, I absolutely love this illustration, even its thumbnail captures my heart immediately.
Denise, I know you love to paint animals, but I didn’t know you dislike painting plants, and am now curious, why is that?
They just don't speak to me. I have a hard time painting anything without a face!
