Nobody does swatching videos like Denise. Love her "watching swatching" videos and so informative. And yes, we are aware that we are literally watching paint dry. And we love it. 😁
Oh my heart! My no buy 2023 is really being tested! Such a beautiful blending session and I'm definitely looking forward to the next video with these paints! Gracias Denise... I appreciate you! 🫂
I bought these paints when they were newish to social media and such and I was stunned! Plus being Canadian supporting a maple leaf company was so important to me. I'm glad to be able to watch your review and see your view on them many years after my own! I'm probably due to try some of the new colours I don't own as well lol!
I am super excited for the full review! I live in Canada and Stoneground paints are easy to find but I haven’t seen anyone do a review of them before and wasn’t sure how they preformed. After seeing your swatches, I am most intrigued :)
I have a few of their metallic/pearlescent watercolors and they are gorgeous. I've been anxious to see more reviews on this brand before adding to my collection. Excited for part 2.
I’m so happy you’ve had a chance to release a swatching video for Stoneground!! I became aware of the brand from your videos and have just recently ordered my first set of 24 single pans and a tin only a few days ago 😊
I would love to see more pieces done with these watercolours! I had purchased a small, 6-colour set years ago, and I wasn't SUPER impressed with them. However, after watching your video I did purchase a set of different colours. I am really excited to give this brand a second shot with colours that may be better suited to me. Thank you for discussing this brand and sharing your thoughts! =)
Thank you, Denise! I love your swatching videos. Only six of these Stonegrounds are in my collection. I was eyeing a few more in your presentation 😉😉. I must have Tyrian Cobalt purple and Delft Cobalt Blue among a few others!! Beautiful!
Thank you for this video, I always see these paints and I have been curious. It is nice to have such an informative video to turn to when I’m ready to purchase from this company. Thank you again for taking the time to share. ❤
Thank you for this video! I watched your favorite colors video awhile ago and learned about Stoneground! Over the holidays got myself the Earth palette and loved them.(I still struggle to love PG23 but trying). Have since purchased some more half pans and put together a small Mayan colors palette. My favorite Stoneground colors are Naples Yellow Deep, Golden Ochre, Indian Yellow, Carmine, Cerulean, Perylene Maroon, and Mayan Green Deep!
There are some absolutely stunning blues in their line up. So tempting 🥰🥰 Thank you for continuing to inform us about toxicity and i truly appreciate your video on how to properly dispose of paint. I hope your throat feels better soon. My grandmother used to give me a tea spoon of honey salt and lemon for my sore throats 🤗 Also a warm salt gargle helps.
O I have missed this❤️ TH-cam hasn’t been recommending your videos. I have really missed them. And I love Stoneground watercolours. Quin Magenta and Turquoise are my favs.
Thank you and welcome back! The alogrithms are brutal these days. I personally live on my subscriptions page as viewer to make sure I don't miss anything :D
I’m learning to love these paints as well! If I want to build a basic pallet, which reds yellows and blues would you recommend for warm and cool paint?
I FORGOT TO MENTION and I hope you see this. That darker PG 17 Florentine Green reminds me of the Schmincke Hematite Black, which is ALSO PG 17 and not hematite. It's been heated up until it turns a very dark shade of green, almost black. You should check it out! It's beautiful. I would say that Florentine Green is right in the middle between the Hematite Black and Oxide of Chromium.
Cris! You are very right. When I originally tried Hematite Black, I have a "?" written for pigment number next to it, and the dot card paper makes it look more neutral, so I must not have clocked that! I just swatched out the three colors, and it indeed makes a nice gradient. I'll post it tomorrow to Instagram to share that info. Thank you!
Hi Patti! Color Spotlight will be finished up here over the next several months (I hope!). To help ease my workload, I decided to finish Brand by Brand on Patreon as blog posts. Four brands have been added this year, and Stoneground will be the last. Looking forward to bringing you more content this year!
These are beautiful paints that I can only dream of owning as sadly on a forever no-buy due to my terminal cancer diagnosis. I enjoyed watching the swatching (rhymes nicely) and you are undoubtedly one of the best swatchers on youtube. 😊
Have you tried any Beam (also Canadian, and Indigenous) paints? The Maya Indigo Blue reminded me of their version that has gold mixed in it. It's gorgeous.
WOW Denise, I love this so much. Love your entire approach to swatching and talking about different brands. I've been exploring gouache recently and saw they had gouache half pans and decided to try them out by getting a split primary + white. I just tell myself it's an early birthday present haha! Thanks so much for the highlight of this brand--super fun to just click around and read the different info. Awesome video again as usual and I hope your voice recovers soon! Looking forward to the next video!
@@MarlyMcG Oops, I meant the typical brands like Da Vinci and M Graham (usually from Curry's). I am in Waterloo. I meant that it was nice to have other options such as this brand when time to replace my current paints.
Is there a better time of year when buying watercolor paint has more sales? Should I be saving up my money to buy new tubes? I like DaVinci and American Journey. I know Cheap Joes has a 50% off AJ right now, but since I am a new painter, I have bought ALOT of supplies to start. I know that I didn’t need to buy a lot in the beginning. I’m an ICU nurse, I have the OCD personality to get everything perfect. I have appreciated your videos showing all the colors, it is coming in handy! I have also subscribed to Watercolorartsnacks box, which gave me a Sennelier with 6 basic colors! It was so worth it. Any advice is appreciated. I am going to join your patreon as well. So if the info is there, just let me know in your comment. I am starting painting to combat depression and anxiety.
No specific time that I know of other than seasonal sales and subscribing to their mailing lists for sales information. Thank you for all that you do in the nursing field, and I hope you enjoy your watercolor journey!
I love these paints sooo much! The only thing that makes me sad is that some of my favourite colours aren't lightfast. They're super honest about it and the pigment ingredients which I appreciate, so I still use those ones in art I intend for prints and in my sketchbook!
Hi Denise! Thanks for another grate video. You mentioned that the ASTM categorises the health hazard PV16 as B. Do they have a standard or a reference that we can check for pigment toxicity? Thanks.
I contacted the company a few months ago to ask for clarification regarding "with appropriate use". Here is what I received when I asked after Delft cobalt blue gouache. "The reason we put that description on the website is that the paint is totally safe to use in the proper way. When I paint I often find it on my hands and occasionally on my face (somehow). I have no concerns about this. Our research has shown that there have not been any concerns with artist grade cobalt pigments. We discourage eating the paint or drinking the water for obvious reasons. This is where the appropriate use comes in."
Oh those are nice, but the shipping... I'd be curious which supplier they use for the PG7, it just doesn't seem right and I'd be tempted to run some analytics on it, with that big of a color shift, there has to be something different in the composition. Oh and to be fair, I think "do not leave someone who'll eat artist watercolors alone with your expensive paints" and "research your local waste disposal" are pretty much self explanatory for handling paints appropriately. Something I'd like to ask in general, will there be another series on pigments? I find these very useful and the last one was a pretty long time ago. No pressure, I'm just curious :)
We'd all love for people to have common sense about paint safety, but I've heard so many stories that indicate otherwise. Education is never a bad thing, and hopefully the fact that I'm focused on an educational viewpoint is no surprise :) There will be at least three more Color Spotlight episodes this year, I hope!
@@InLiquidColor oh I love the news about the color spotlights! They are my favorite of your videos! And for paint safety, yes education is always good and more common sense would be nice I guess. It's just that local regulation on waste disposal will be quite different for a lot of people and I wouldn't put it on small sellers like them to research it for all places they ship to and otherwise the information will probably cause trouble
I'm glad you're excited about the Color Spotlights! I am not suggesting a seller has to research safety protocol for every country, state, district, and city they ship to. I am suggesting they use the international guidelines set by ASTM to inform people of potentially harmful substances, especially when pets and children are involved. Yes it is a parent/adults responsibility to take care of their charges. However, that's not the world we live in. In my personal opinion, it's more responsible and educational to say that something is toxic when handled improperly rather than say something is non-toxic when handled properly. Again, I understand that the company's intent is to let people know these are safe products so that people don't overreact or avoid them. However, I see people way too often letting their cats drink paint water. If information was more readily available, perhaps that behavior could be stopped.
@@InLiquidColor I understand what you mean better now. I'm not that optimistic about it changing the outcome, but a good compromise for them would probably to put something like "Safe when probably handled, not safe when ingested / whatever is appropiate here" and link to the SDS from their pigment provider on the website so people don't panic.
I would like to see more, please! And I see u have to subscribe to get more info at this site. Can u tell me if they are affordable or very expansive? Please and thank you!❤️
