Dang that hour flew by! This is the first time since YongYea interview with him during MGSV speculation podcast that I have heard David and he is still as cool as I remember! Age hasn't slowed him down one bit
It still blows my mind that they didn't hire him for the game. Kiefer would have worked for Venom Snake just fine, but David should have reprised Big Boss.
@@laglord Big Boss isn't in GZ or TPP, It's ALL Venom. I see why people want the voice, but it actually changes the meaning of those scenes if they are "correctly" voiced. That is the brainwashing that us and Venom experience.
@laglord hehe or just read my autistic ramblings... Yes the voice of the GZ Medic is the voice of GZ BB and Venom Snake simply to hint that the Big Boss you see in games isn't real but a phantom. I mean even the lack of dialogue from Venom Snake which is mentioned in the podcast is just the fact that Venom isn't really BB but some brain damaged copy just playing a role the best he can. One of the first things Venom says to Kaz is "Tell me like you used to". But ultimately it's left ambiguous enough for the player to project their own interpretation of the Boss onto Venom. Every player depending on which games they have and haven't played will have different ideas of who and what Snake is and stands for. And this is then called into question: how much is Venom LIKE Big Boss? How much of him copied over, and what can be copied? Memories, ethics, belief? These ideas are explored within the game, ideas about the ideologies and beliefs people have and whether they truly die with the people that held them or whether other people can authentically carry on the beliefs of others without corruption. Like Hayter says, he's doing the voice lines in his head of what he would say, and I'm sure other people are too - but it's all dependant on which games in the series you've played. Whatever they played to Venom to make him think he was another person is very similar to how players have been acting out the various Snakes over the years. That's your own programming - and why you create the Medic's appearance at the start of TPP. It think there's something really funny and meta about many of the oldest fans making their avatar look like Snake and then getting semi-confused at the reveal at the end when Venom's appearance changes - as if suffering from their own self-inflicted disassociation.
One of my fave David Hayter performances was the cheesy 90s sequel to Guyver: Bio booster armor entitled Guyver 2: Dark Hero. For being a low budget film, they actually did have some awesome scenes, like when Sho (Sean in the American version) runs and jumps off a cliff in anime style and transforms into the Guyver, forward flips and lands 40 feet on the ground below in epic fashion.
