    I use a toothpick or a thumbtack to clear out the nozzle, heatgun if necessary on low setting and shake, a lot of times, buildup from sitting around causes the spray paint to dry up and harden, thus making it difficult to use.

    I just got my first clogged spray paint can ever and after watching many videos suggesting using an air gun (I don't have one) to push air into the can, I pulled out my heat gun & lightly warmed up the can for about 10 seconds... voila! I can continue spray painting those ugly gold candle holders I got during the elephant gift exchange :) Thank you!!! I would've never thought of this genius solution.

    I like this so much better than hot water 👍. When high pigment artist/graffiti cans clog it can be so frustrating. Especially when some cost almost $10 a can. Although I never mess with clogged caps because they're so cheap. You can get male and female caps and adapters in plenty of different shapes and sizes. It's totally worth having some on hand so you don't have to worry about a clogged cap or a weird spray pattern anymore. And ultimately whenever all else fails, I will take a small paint roller, (the style with a solid bar) you can hold the can with one hand, use the paint roller and the tip of that solid bar to pierce the bottom of the paint can so that way you can at least cover whatever surface you want to cover (although it handles like a garden hose). Or you can point it into a bucket with non spray-paint paint and use it to change the color of the paint in the bucket. Then use a roller to cover a wall or surface.

    I’m guessing that the heat is increasing the pressure in the can vs softening the old paint, although it could be doing both. Just be careful not to heat it too much or the can could rupture.

    I also used this idea with hair spray long ago, using hot water, but be careful when heating pressurized contents. I burn trash and usually pull out aresol cans or even pull lids off air tight bottles, heck they even explode in an enclosed vehicle or even in truck bed, which I had soda cans explode. But it is a good idea and works well

    The heat is a great idea. If I were a betting man I would bet that the benefit of heat is raising the internal psi of the can and not 'loosening things up'.

    • @dbproductreviews6319

      I try it with limited exposure in short bursts, just because contents are under pressure. I'll try the tip for a few seconds then turn the can and try a different part, then maybe the bottom. I also tend to shake and spray the cans on a somewhat regular basis so they don't sit unused for too long.

      I made a paint mixer for spray cans with conveyor rollers and an old drill motor. I can let old cans that won’t spray turn for an hr if desired and this works often but not always. Best thing about that I can let them run while I do other things in the shop.

    I keep the nozzles when I am done with a can and it is empty. Before storing the nozzle, I shoot carb cleaner through it. Instead of using a heat-gun, I put the can in the sunlight for a good while.

    • @MaxGiganteum
      @MaxGiganteum ปีที่แล้ว

      Turn the can upside down and push down on the nozzle to blow propellant out until it's clean with no paint. That guarantees the nozzle is clean and you don't need to use anything else like carb cleaner on it which might actually melt the plastic anyway. Best wishes! 💨🤔👍🏻

      Do you have a push pin, or long thin needle like device you could push down in the tube? Try holding down the nozzle tube without the tip on it from different angles, try spraying upside down, or possibly let the can soak in some hot water for a bit.

      @@dbproductreviews6319 That's true - one time I used a blow dryer plugged into a portable lithium generator - to defrost a water hose so the cattle would be satisfied. Still we are all off grid in the sense that Mother Nature is taking revenge against civilization.

  • @MaxGiganteum
    @MaxGiganteum ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Warning: if the pressure inside of the can gets too high it could burst, so be super careful with the heat gun or even a hair dryer if you insist on using one which I would not. What you need to do is determine first off whether the clog is in the can's stem or the spray nozzle. If in the nozzle, clean it out or replace it. The smart play to prevent clogged nozzles, is to turn the can completely upside down and push the nozzle down until no paint flows out once you're done actually spray painting. No paint = no clog so get into the habit of blowing out clean propellant every time you finish spraying. To get freebie nozzles, simply pull them off of cans once the paint supply is exhausted. Store them for future use - you'll thank yourself for doing so! If the stem is clogged, use the valve stem from a car tire/rim to blow air into the can. Attach the threaded end to an air line then push the rubber base down onto the can over the stem very tightly. Tap the handle or lever to blow air in briefly to clear the clog, 1 second inputs is all it takes. Note: the air supply has to be at a higher pressure than what's in the can for this technique to work! Do NOT overpressurize the can or it will burst! How many PSI to go for? Start at 90 but don't go over 120. So what if that doesn't work? You're probably not going to clear out the stem but here's a last resort. Use a small diameter drill bit to carefully clean inside the stem. Warning: wear safety glasses or a full face shield to prevent an eye injury!! Be very careful to avoid piercing the valve or you'll get a non-stop stream of paint in your face, up your nose, all over you and/or everything else until the can blows off all the propellant. Don't point the end of the spray can directly toward you at any time and make your clog clearing attempts outside where getting paint everywhere won't matter. Wear crap clothes with long sleeves and some disposable latex gloves like a doctor or nurse wears. Stay away from all open flames. Danger! Many propellants are highly flammable and explosive. Example? Propane is commonly used. So what if all attempts fail and the paint simply won't spray out. You've got two options. Check the unusable can in the trash or pierce it open to salvage the paint. Can that be done safely? Yes, if you make the proper preparations and plan on using the paint immediately. That's the catch with the paint - it'll start curing as soon as it gets into normal atmosphere. I leave the process of paint salvaging to you. Best wishes! 👍🏻👨🏻‍🔧🇺🇸
    - Max Giganteum

    • @MaxGiganteum
      @MaxGiganteum ปีที่แล้ว

      I forgot to mention the obvious... for any spray can, whether it's for spray paint or a lubricant or a degreaser or anything else, if it runs low on propellant but there's still material left in the can then you can use the car tire valve stem trick to just push normal atmosphere into the can. Again, don't over pressurize the can! 90 PSI is more than good enough. Will this trick allow you to salvage the rest of the material in the can? Of course it will... as long as the valve is undamaged. Best wishes! 👍🏻👨🏻‍🏭🇺🇸
