I can't afford to poop! 7 gal bucket (taller) from home depot, snap on toilet lid, bio bags and wipes is the cheapest and comfortable solution I've found.
2003, we built our ExpeditionVehicle with simplicity in mind. . Fluids: We use a retired laundry detergent jug with the 'puck' knocked out of it. . Solids: We squat over a newspaper. After wiping, we fold the proceeds into a produce bag from the grocery. . Zero plumbing, zero tanks, zero waste-disposal stations. . Like they say in those popular ExpeditionVehicle commercials; * "Ask your proctologist if squatting is right for you!"
It's like gilding a (stink) lily sometimes, thought there are some good ideas here. Bi-mart and other sporting goods stores sell a special 5 gal bucket with rope handle and closing seat lid for $15-$20. I line it with a bag and throw wood pellets or sawdust in there for a trip, works like a champ for folks who don't have campers for the backcountry.
Appreciate this info! Nice to see several options…have been getting ready to head out and this issue was one of my last to address. May be an uncomfortable topic…but needed information. Thanks!
I have one of those collapsible portable commodes and find it most convenient. Pricier than a standard 5gal bucket, but it's collapsible to save space, and it can be adjusted in height for different people/preferences, or like someone said, when they try to potty inside the car for privacy.
Thanks for showing these products, Donald. Laughing at all the defecation innuendo. "Running it all weekend, testing it non- stop." That one is my fav. Sure glad I don't camp with those folks. Manufacturer slogan, "Go ahead, drink the water, We've got your back." Lol.
Some good stuff in here. My cabellas camping commode is still my favorite way of dealing with the issue though. It takes up some space but the comfort is worth it.
I've used the standard porta-potti and the 5-gallon bucket system but nothing compares to the Trelino. NO chemicals to mess with, No smells to contend with and easy to empty and clean. Doubles as a seat/stool when not in use. Only downside, aside from the price point, it is a bit bulky. Leave it to the Germans to come up with this unit. All in all, I find it's well worth it to not have to cope with the smells the other systems I've tried emit.
Yep, have the Thunderbox, highly recommend👌. Great quality, compact to transport, sturdy in use 🙃, simple but smart design. Edit: versatile cos you can use with a hole underneath as well as the bag and kitty litter method or the like.
Lets see, 5 gal bucket 🪣 from Lowes, check, trash bag, matching pool noodle from $1.25 store, check. Put trash bag in bucket wrapping over rim. Slice pool noodle lengthwise, cut to fit over rim. DROP A LOG! And if your really modest......put up a plastic (matching) blue screen.....oh and a stick in the ground for t.p. maybe a small portable for your fav camp magazine.
Donald, will the trusty 5 gal bucket be getting an "upgrade"? haha. Somehow I doubt it. I'll keep mine, too since they're good for more than an emergency pooper.
I've realized that I don't camp much (let's be honest, at all) because I like to go to the bathroom in my actual bathroom. It's not that I don't want to go, my body, literally, won't go. Overnighters are doable, but I'm really all about day trips these days. 😅
Intriguing thumbnail. Such creative products. "Thunderbox"😂 That's a huge box for a huge 💩. Wow, a bathroom in a hat!😂 Over engineering a simple process.
Great finds. Thanks for sharing. Are you looking for a solution for your rig and adventures? I’m thinking the good old shovel has been your choice. Backpacking I carry the small shovel, the mountain money and a roll of dog bags to pack it out when you just can’t dig a hole. Oh yea, hand sanitizer. Like the mycelium and wipes solution. Wonder what kind of mushrooms will grow there? 😬
That’s a genius idea. Makes total sense you don’t even have to try to stand squat to wipe your bottom. If you have an exposed open area because the seat doesn’t come all the way around you’re good to swipe up or down depending on your belief system. Generally, it’s supposed to be clean to dirty as I learned inmedical assistant school.
I think the Insta privy would be most convenient for me because of it folding up and it’s plastic, which I like I’ve been trying to perfect taking a dump inside a Toyota Tacoma with the backseats out because of IBS issues it’s plastic can easily be cleaned if need to and it folds thin and appears very light. I think your biggest issue is getting enough bags For it and we had to put it after you’ve done your business although most people when they pick up after the dogs, they tied the little bag around the back window of their car or SUV and let it stay there on the windshield wiper for a week cooking in the sun. I wouldn’t do that obviously, I’d want it far away from me as possible. As far as that MDF goes, that’s the worst idea I’ve ever seen think about all the wet asses that would be sitting on that not to mention the squirting that wood would be puffed up, then disintegrating and smell bad before you knew it and then you end up either trying to cut out your own wooden platform for it, and hopes that is better than MDF
You don't even need the seat. Man has squatted since the dawn of time and the toilet is an unnatural progression for mankind. In some places of the world they still have squat toilets and I much prefer them.
Wow, they have come a long way! Thanks Donald.

Ditto
Same here. Plus I place the bucket inside a milk crate to give it more stability.
that is my exact solution. biodegradable bags + kitty litter + trowel. I like the idea of putting it into a milk crate!
Trucker here: 5 gallon bucket, trash bag, & a toilet lid works perfect for an emergency 💩 🆘 Some kitty litter adds the finishing touch.
Nice solutions. I want to wear that privy hat to the DMV.

Hamster bedding from Petsmart works really well. Make certain you buy only poplar or alder rho, the cedars and pines don't work nearly as well.

Great to see Paul and Insta-privy being repped. Quick simple and functional.

The THUNDER Box, now thats an appropriate name.😅

Still haven't found anything better than my 5 gallon bucket.
I Like the idea, of that Trelino Toilet = #1 & #2 !!

I find it funny I ribbed you a little about your bucket and the next video is about poop.

“… for a larger drop zone.”
Roger that. Expanded LZ for incoming quick-release post-used materiel.

Talk about a solution looking for a problem. I’ll stick with my shovel
Nothing in camo or no tacti cool attachments?
It seems silly to get the Thunderbox at that price vs what they sell in REI, but folding it down to 1 inch is perfect for my limited space.
good video
0:28 is that exposed MDF? No plastics from China…but Nothing wrong with a water proof, non porous surface.
My first thought is to sit on the InstaPrivy backwards. Easier access to the clean up area.

You’re all set up to go 😂 1:15
I always wanted to wear my shit house like a hat 😂
$$ in $$$$ out

$720 for the cheap wrappon with carry bag - LOL - I'm gonna pee myself ... wait ... is that your strategy wrappon?
$5 dollar bucket with a garbage bag does it so much better and cleaner.
Maybe get the Instaprivy pop out tent then do it like a cat does it.
I need to change to a better quality diet to live up to these loos expectations 🤣. I like chicken nuggets so bucket/dog bags.
Katie's 550.00 toilet? Really? Gtfo

Not a lot of Disabled ♿ people, can just naturally squat, and hold that position
