Carving an Eagle with an Electric Chainsaw (Makita UC4051A)

  • I am one month into picking up a chainsaw for the first time to start my new hobby and I'm loving it! So much fun and so satisfying to cut through wood with a powerful chainsaw. It may be electric, but my Makita does the job with no messy gasoline, no stinky exhaust, and less noise than a traditional chainsaw.

Here are some of the things I used in this video:

Great job, and a beautiful bird! I’m starting out like you - I’ve caught the interest (bug?) and am watching all the TH-cam videos I can, with a couple books on the way courtesy of the library. I hope my attempts turn out as well as your eagle did!!! Thanks for mentioning the Netflix show, I’ll check that out, and for linking the tools you use. Keep up the good work!

Can you carve hard wood? Or is soft wood, pine or cedar better?

I'm also using a 16" UC4051A. U think 18" guide bar will fit on it? or what is the max length guide bar out there for UC4051A? It works great but sometimes i wish it could be longer.

Can you do this in your backyard. Are there any noise laws? I'm trying to get into chainsaw carving, but don't know where to do it. Backyard neighbours are close, would in the garage work?

You're just using the standard Makita 16" bar. I have the same saw, have you ever used a carving bar with it?

Hello. Nice website. Lots to read, I wanted to ask if you could carve a pair of birds or eagles. I have two gate post that 6x6 and wanted some thing to cap them and thought a small statue. Do you have anything in your inventory I can purchase. No worries thanks.

Jimmy, saw this vid today. LOVED IT!! Learned a little more about you, besides onewheeling. Carving turned out Nice!! So you're a scout. Eagle. I had a close friend that was. Never understood it, and you say your son/s? are? Maybe could you do a vid on explaining the Scouthood?

Thanks Abel. I actually picked up chainsaw carving this summer, about a month before I got my Onewheel. I was just commissioned to make another eagle later this week. I wasn't planning on making a video because it slows me down when I carve and there has not been much interest with my videos but maybe I'll record it and try again. I'll talk a little bit about the Eagle Scout award too. Thanks for the inspiration. It may be a while though, I've got a ton of footage to sort through and turn into videos.

Yeah, I actually thought about it afterwards, and figured you have a LOT to do. Thank you for your time. BTW, can't remember if I mentioned how great your latest vid is, so I will say, I really appreciate your family ethics. You seem like an awesome dad. And the vid with your mom is PRICELESS. She is SUPER cool. I really enjoyed the vid. Thanks, man!!!

One more thing. A customer of mine gave me a Ryobi power carver. Discontinued, but other companies make them. A reciprocating gouge tool for fast carving. My dad used to carve, and I have added it to my bucket list. Awesome tool.

@@abelaxen thanks for the kind words. I spent the morning carving with my chainsaw. I am so sore right now. Too much carving with the Onewheel these days and my upper body has atrophied! LoL!

Hi Im a carver of s few years. You are very talented. I would see if you can get yourself s battery operated saw with a carving bar on it. As for other tools - but a sanding disc on your angle grinder & take the guard off. Get a nose file and a dremel with some eye attachments and ARbortec bits , a flexy disk on s drill. Thats all you ever need. Join some carvers on facebook - there are chainsaw caring only groups 2/3 good ones in the usa & uk- watch they are professionas & will help you with anything you need. This could easily become your profession- you are talented. If you need anything come & find me on fb chainsaw carving Nottingham uk 👌🏼

I just cancel my "Graff speed cutting" Amazon order after researching a bit, does not worth the risk
