solid i was wondering what size forstner bits i would need to do this, your video answered that for me, thanks. If I could add something to it though, I'd recommend drilling the 35mm counterbore first, then use the center point left by the 35mm to reference the center of the 30mm so they end up perfectly concentric 👍

This is why I love you tube.....was just heading for the man shed to try and make one of these but got sidetracked into having a coffee and a refreshing poo. My intention was to try to make a base that utilised the main brass back plate so I could then place the guides through it etc. Your idea is much simpler although I’m not sure I have acrylic that thick (in order to allow me to forstner out the larger ‘shelf’ hole)....think my acrylic is only 4mm. You’ve also pointed out the obvious to me in that I could not work out why the main brass plate had 4 plain holes.....dust extraction.....couldn’t fathom it. Nice one 👍
You can drill through the face of the brass bushing, a necklace of little holes, all the way around to get more suction close to the bit.
Turned out nice man - thought you were changing to Tuuls and Stuff for a minute there.

Thanks for the vid. Just bought one and I feel your pain. Gonna make my own just as you recommended. Maybe I’ll cut three lager openings for the dust rather than 4 wee holes. I looked at the palm sander for clues to that problem. BTW trade you Prime Ministers! Ken from Canada (up over).

I have the Makita RP 0900 and it too does not come with the guide. I at first thought that I lost it or something and spent a little time looking around the shop for it. I am thinking I will make my own too. Makita should have included this in their kit. Really lacking on Makita's part. Jim in Chile

Hello Sir. Very nice job. Well done. I use Forstner bit too but I have a lot of difficulties , it takes a long time , and at the end it is not crisp like yours. Do you use special bit ? Is it because you do it on a drill press ? Or is it something else? Please advise. I really appreciate.

brand new to using routers. have the RT0701C . looks similar to yours. i have the plate that holds the bushing, but can’t figure out how to center it. purchased the funnel looking tool but don’t see any way to adjust plate to center on cone?
Really cool , what are the templates made from? I assume there re different types to do A's and other letters etc that require double routing.

Good vid cheers, Had just made myself one of these over the weekend too, Except mine is for the cheap ryobi router. I did the exact same stuff up too, I drilled my hole right through with the small forstner bit first then realised I still needed to centre a bigger bit to rebate the bushing.
Where did you get your acrylic from in NZ?
I can only find 6mm perspex or wholesale suppliers of large sheets.
It wasn't too big of a deal because I had already set the fence on the drill press so it was easy to line up again. The base was originally a sign that my wife brought home from work. Up to 20mm is available from some sellers on TM.

@@ToolsAndStuffOFFICIAL Drilling the bigger one first, halfway and then ending with the smaller one for the rest ?
The problem with dust collection is that the bushing covers almost the whole template. There's very little room to suck out the dust. If you were to rout without the guide bushing dust collection would be fine, but your templates wouldn't. Seeing how thick the polycarbon base is you could probable cut four circular slots around the bushing with maybe five millimetre left between slots. should be strong enough.
Was the 9mm a bit thick? Not much follower sticking out?
The follower is the same no matter what thickness material is used.
I was wondering if those forstner bits are 30mm and 35mm?

Any particular reason you went with a 9mm acrylic stock? Was your guide bushing tall?

Allows you to follow templates, like the letter he used in the video. Those are called Porter Cable types if you Google it. You can buy kits with various sizes. The adapters are easy to find.
You should consider manufacturing these and have yourself a $$ side gig there. I can use one of these but don’t have the ancillary equipment to make one.

I don't have the time anymore. Too busy reviewing tools. Besides most wouldn't want to pay the price it would have to be. But I did think about doing it some time ago...
