I loved Toni and hated when she left the show. I know a lot of people hated her, but I always loved her drive and go getter attitude. She was just about her money and then when she became a mom, she became all about her daughter (while still valuing the money too). I feel like she did grow up without losing the aspects of who she was.
I'm mad about this too like I feel you. She was the best character other than Maya. In Lynn, in all honesty, I don't think Joan was like the best character she was annoying. She snitch on her friends in a subconscious way and like. Yeah, you wanted to make partner and get married, but those were their only real goals. And then the gold that you had you left. And people said I being better than you and you always get jealous. I never understood why Joel was jealous of her best friend who kept on crying to her saying how much she needed her asking, if she's messing app this man's life or she's going to be a good mom and everything and during that whole relationship. Whenever like when Joan first found out that Tony was going to get married or was engaged. I should say. And Tony said no. She went off and told Gary that she got engaged. I don't know who in the right mind goes on and tell someone else's someone's business, but that's exactly what she did. Then, when she does get actually engaged. Joan is being fake when Maya had her re-engagement party in to throw the wedding that she won. It Joan still couldn't even be happy for Maya, so let's be real. If lynn wasa had gotten married before drone, she would have blown all the way up
I also hated her, I thought that was the point of toni. As a matter of fact, the only one who didn’t get me angry at some point or other was maya. But that’s the whole point. I think this makes the portrayal authentic

When Mya lied to Darnell about Joan buying her that watch to cover up her affair and Darnell got all in Joans face and publicly disrespected her at her job that was crazy. And then Mya had the nerve to give Joan an attitude when Joan confronted her about it. If I were Joan she would've been fired for that. Mya always took advantage of Joan being a kind boss because she was a user. Actually they all used her except William. He wasn't perfect, he had a lot of misogynistic ways but he was a true friend and never purposefully malicious. I still remember that episode the girls trashed her house because she didn't give them expensive christmas presents. What friends do that?

For example: Growing up from humble beginnings. Self Made. Has childhood traumas that she was willing to work through (going to therapy & church). Extremely ambitious. Always wanted the best for herself, and was unwavering about it. Wanted a man to add to her lifestyle, not create it. As a young black girl, Toni Childs taught me that no matter where you came from, you can reinvent yourself into who you want to be. Through incredible style & intelligence, black girls deserve and can achieve luxury in our life and be unapologetic about it. Even through her “snobbish” ways, I lived for. Toni conveyed confidence (sometimes to the point of delusion 😂) that is needed at times, to be the best. I think Monica is a more stable version of Toni. More solitary (which is okay) and self-possessed. Two sides of the same coin. I thought the girlfriends were shrewish where she was concerned. I think Monica handled herself maturely.
Monica came from money and was def not chasing money. Tony was always in survival mode (despite her outward expressions). Girlfriends is still one of my favorite shows 🫶🏾
Yes she stood on her own she wanted a career and a man to match her lifestyle while Monica wanted to be taken care of even if she has to mold a man to do so.
I think Lynn and Mya didn’t like Monica because she’s was the embodiment of everything they weren’t and aspired to be. She knew what she wanted Lynn didn’t and she was also a kept women Mya wasn’t.
I think that's the biggest thing. Monica is a mature woman who doesn't need friends where as Tony, Joan, Lynn and Mya are all kinda girly. Between Monica and Tony Monica doesn't need to do a lot to show off anything cause what does she need to prove where as Tony loves outside validation which also plays into why she isn't always around them cause Monica doesn't need GIRL-friends.
I don't think it's that deep. I think they didn't like her because she was an unapologetic, rude bitch. They didn't really know much about her for a long time outside of her abrasive personality

Better quality clothes and much cheaper. You can still get a wear before the weather changes with this global warming. Outlet clothes are made for outlets only. Back in day it was for irregulars that didn’t past inspections. But it was quality fabrics.

I think thats also fair because Monica and Joan both display characteristics that are mean girl esque as well but particulary in the latter seasons where Joans materialism and classism isnt called out as much. They may have seen her being friends with Monica as pedaling back? I dunno either way your videos are fire and im happy that youre sharing your art with us!

Monica was a way better character. Talk about the best wife on the show. She knew how to put fire under her man to do better for himself and the family. Toni’s character was evil towards friends, men, and family. She was insecure and just sad. I felt bad for her.

During their courtship and during an argument (i think this was right before their wedding and right after he moved in with Toni and she found out he was broke) Todd admitted he was afraid the man he was wouldn't be enough for Toni as he could tell the type of person she was(materialistic, self-centered, putting herself first etc.) and tried to buy her love and affection with lavish gifts. He put on a show for her and she didn't do her own research into his finances. He was already $750,000 in medical school debt when he finished and on top of gifting Toni expensive gifts and her demands in wedding planning who knows how much more he had to spend. When Toni's ring was stolen and he discovered that she had a nest egg of approximately $500,000 or a little more he wanted to use her entire savings to pay off most of his debt and she immediately denied him. During their separation and eventual divorce we learn that Todd's mother paid off his debt and even bought him a house during their custody battle so not only was Todd financially stable in the eyes of the court but he was able to start off his career debt free and actually having quite a steady income coming in, just not what Toni thought he already had like with one of her former flings Dr. Clay (in season 1) who was a well-off doctor and gave Toni lavish gifts, already had a mansion, (probably a millionaire) could very well provide her with the life she wanted and even proposed to her but also infected her with Chlamydia.
Monica was who she was and didn’t know a difference. That’s the way she grew up. Toni was a wannabe and grew up knowing a difference because of Joan Clayton, her best friend back ground.
