I just got an oesq store pick and its phenomenal. Mine is aged 10 years 11 months. The best mouth feel ive had from any whiskey. Super creamy. I dont get the banana, not yet anyways, but do get some floral Also, a store local to me just got back from a 10day KY trip. They did a four roses pick. Out of the 10 barrels they tasted, with at least 5 ppl, they were all unanimous on obsk. Seeing it in your top 3, now i really really cant wait for them to take delivery on it.
Currently preparing to present to the four roses bourbon folks in Lawrenceburg, so your video has become invaluable, many thanks and great work, subscribed! 👏👍✊
Sooo much more watchable than what the Bourbon Junkies phoned in from the same tasting (not sure what they were thinking with that "edit", their attempt got me to mute their updates for a short stretch- "penalty box" if you will, lol), but ⬆THIS⬆ is the thoughtful cut I was hoping for when I saw they had the chance for this experience. As someone with only 3/10 at the moment and prepping my own Whisk(e)y content endeavor, this is the Geektastic comparison I NEEDED!! Subscribed! (and the general bias for the high corn among this group of folks= noted 😄. Feel like my OBSF and OBSV picks are hard to top, so truly excited to explore when more E variants pop up in my area!)
Appreciate you watching buddy. The beautiful thing about whiskeytube is that there is a channel out there for everyone and personality ypu can relate with somewhere!! Cheers!
I had an opportunity to take a taste test at Four Roses last summer, While there I found that I liked the single barrel but locally the only kind available is the small batch and the standard. I am finding that I like the standard's initial sweetness and have made it my go to bourbon. Great info you provided.
I ended up getting all 5 OES_ and tasted them blind . Oesv is my favorite for sure . Oesf is actually my 2nd- really love that recipe personally . A lot of people seem to hate on the F’s. I find it quite good. I’ve had all but obsq and obsk now 👍🏽
Very nice! It's quite the experience to even try 5 side-by-side blind. I have heard the same About the F recipes.I don't think any of them are badd they're all just unique!
I have an unopened 2015 store pick of the OBSK, also 10.8 years but at 60.1%. I was at that store in Niagara Falls a couple months ago grabbing another store pick and saw that FR OBSF among some others, glad I passed on it. Great Vid
@@brandon_sprague i picked up 2 of them that day and the border guard just let us go without duty. $72 Cad all in each as they were on for $54 incl tax. Have another being muled as part of a trade for my lottery ETL. Incredible Rye pick with that Hungarian cask finish
@@peterwhite507 yeah it's a killer. I went there in February. Picked one up for Dan from the Bournon Junkies. It's my favorite high west I've had. Did find a michters 10 there on the shelf too. Almost worth the drive from Michigan
Wow! What a super informative video. You really know your stuff and do a great job passing along this super valuable information to the whiskey community, so that we can make a more informed choice! Thank you and keep up the great work!
Great video. I just picked up my very first store pick bottle from Total Wine in California, which was the OESV recipe. Excited to give it a try! Hoping to land a bottle of the limited edition soon. Thanks again for all the great videos! Great stuff 🥃
Friend of mine called me from Kentucky a few days ago while visiting a friend and he was at one of the liquor barn stores. Long story short I'm picking up two bottles of LB OBSV this Saturday.
Pretty much at this point if I find any Four Roses Single Barrel I'm going to pick it up because each individual Barrel seems to taste different even if it's the same recipe. Thanks for watching Steve!
Great video, Chris! Very in depth with descriptions of the recipes. I'd honestly pickup any barrel strength store pick if I came across them. I've found just OESK and OESV barrel strength picks and OSBV non barrel strength all are great. I liked OESV best of these 3. Cheers brother
I saw the junkies. And now your great episode. I envy you guys. The different recipes have always been a mystery to me - I wish I could taste 10 at once!
Awesome way to do the video! Really liked how it turned out. OESK was top for me, but OBSK, OESV and OBSV were all good personally. Any of the top 6 I wouldn't be upset at owning.
I have a store pick oesq and the standard single barrel obsv. The oesq is way better. Best mouth feel from any whiskey ive ever had. Super creamy. But also light and fluffy. Mine is aged 10yrs 11 months, so almost 2 yrs longer than the one tried in this vid. Like he said, every barrel is going to be different even if its the same recipe
I only have the OESK, happy to hear it's in your top 3 of the Four Roses PBS series! The OESK also just placed 3rd in my latest blind barrel proof tasting behind the Elijah Craig C918 and Wild Turkey Rare Breed. Please make more BLIND tasting videos!
That must have been quite the experience Chris to try all ten recipes of the Four Roses Single Barrel store picks. The only one that sticks out was the OBSO pick from Wine and Spirits because the pick label say 60% rye, 35% corn, and 5% barley so is that a new mash bill or typo just saying. Cheers!
We were all wondering about that as well but I am pretty sure Brandon said it was just a mistake made on the label. I can double check with him though. Cheers Mose!🥃
Love this episode.. you do a damn good job with your videos man 👍🏽 It’d be awesome to do this, but dropping $750-$1000 for all the bottles/recipes is pricey. I’m thinking about getting all the OExx and comparing 5 ( just have OESV so far) & I hear the “O” yeast strain is just about impossible to find.
Thank you so much Jeff, I really appreciate the kind words. Absolutely even if you can compare all of One Mash bill it would be incredible. I was fortunate enough to have people around me able to find all the recipes. And you're correct I've heard the O recipes are damn near never found. Cheers buddy!
Like I said though, each single barrel and each expression of the Single Barrel can very big time who knows another blind tasting of 10 I may have chosen OESQ as my favorite that day!
I came up on 3 10&11 year picks OBSQ, OESQ, & OESF and the other liquor store, which is a bit overpriced & stingey IMO, had more options but they were all aged 8&9 years old, I wonder if certain liquor stores get better picks on better juice while still managing to sell them at the $70 price point
To me it's all about who picks the barrels. I have a store local in MI who does excellent 4R picks. I would pay $70 all day for several picks I have had
Store picks. It's very highly problematic. Who has the best taste buds and nose? Who has the best judgement and how are their values weighted? How many stores are doing store picks? Who picks first? Who gets the leavings? Who has friends at the distillery and receives the hints? How many bottles are held out and funneled to _? As a street level consumer I really have no legitimate information on which to make a judgement. Now add in mash bill recipes and barrel variants. As outlandish as it sounds, maybe the best advice is some that I received from a reviewer. Buy single bottle(s) of your choice. Taste it in your car in the parking lot. If you love it, go back in and purchase extras with the same bottle pedigree. It's the only method that would directly link result with opportunity.
I couldn't agree more that's why store pics are so interesting and unique and why a lot of people seek after them. It amazed me how different even same recipe bottles tasted truly is a bottle by bottle preference irregardless of the recipe. I'm sure statistically there are a higher number of better recipes that the majority of people prefer but how would anybody know. Taste is completely subjective. All I know is in general I'm always open to trying a Four Roses Single Barrel most of the time I'm not going to be disappointed
Problem is store picks and distillery picks are the only way to get the different recipes from Four Roses. So there is no way to get a batched single recipe (maybe would be an interesting idea for Four Roses to think about making as they would sell a ton of it) that is going to make this a completely scientific exercise and take the human element out of the equation. However, I think what you describe lends its self to any single barrel bourbon or store pick honestly. Unless you have a store where you trust the tasters palate and are going to know going in you like their stuff, its best to try multiple bottles from different stores and see what you think. For this though I would say most of the bottles fit in to the general mold that the yeast and mash bill were trying to promote, but the effectiveness varied greatly. So I think at the very least you could understand the basis of what profile you wanted to work towards.
Great reviews 👌, been pouring 4 roses for over 50yrs. Love the high proof stuff. Can't find alot of them in northern Michigan. 😉👍🥃
100% I'm a 4🌹 fan for sure!
Thanks for the awesome video.
I’m new to the Bourbon scene from Jerome, Mi.
I’ll check out the Tippins 💪🏽
I have only had 4 Roses small batch and need to give some of the single barrel variants a try. Great review and sounds like an incredible experience.
It was an awesome time and thanks for watching guy! Yeah if you could even find the 100 Proof Single Barrel I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on

Thanks so much buddy! Really appreciate it!
I haven’t had the single barrels yet. But now I’m more curious than ever. Talk about a whiskey experience, WOW! cheers to that 🥃
Absolutely. Give them a go! I bet no matter what you try you wont be disappointed
Thank you very much for your very important scientific research. You deserve a Nobel Prize for this.
Generations from now they will find this I'm sure and it will be historic

Thank you so much! Yes the single barrel is a wonderful expression especially at about $40. I do love the single batrell store picks as well!
I ended up getting all 5 OES_ and tasted them blind . Oesv is my favorite for sure . Oesf is actually my 2nd- really love that recipe personally . A lot of people seem to hate on the F’s. I find it quite good.

I just wish some 4R picks would show up near me. Thx so much Peter!
Peter if you're back by that store, buy all the Rendezvous Rye pick they have. Its phenomenal

Nice explanation of the four roses single barrel line.
Thx brother! They are a great distillery with awesome single barrels!
Wow! What a super informative video. You really know your stuff and do a great job passing along this super valuable information to the whiskey community, so that we can make a more informed choice! Thank you and keep up the great work!
Thx so much! Naw, I'm just a guy that loves whiskey haha. Jason at The Mash and.Drum is a true whiskey nerd. Knows his stuff really well!
Great video Chris, I agree the top two or three were all a toss up for me also.
All of them were quite good honestly, but it was amazing how different they all tasted! Thanks so much for putting it on for us all!
Great video. I just picked up my very first store pick bottle from Total Wine in California, which was the OESV recipe. Excited to give it a try! Hoping to land a bottle of the limited edition soon.
Thanks again for all the great videos! Great stuff 🥃
Enjoy my man! Love some of those 4R picks!
I really enjoy your reviews!? Keep up the good work
Thx so much!
This was truly INSANE! Now that’s an experience! Great stuff here, Chris! Cheers, buddy 🥃
I’m an OESQ fanboy, but honesty, they are all damn good!
It amazes me how different even the same recipe can taste. Four Roses single barrels are very unique
Great video Chris! Cheers brother!!!
That's guys!
Friend of mine called me from Kentucky a few days ago while visiting a friend and he was at one of the liquor barn stores. Long story short I'm picking up two bottles of LB OBSV this Saturday.
Awesome! You will have to let me know what you think once you try it
Great video, love the lay out of 4Roses codes.
Thank you very much! I really appreciate it! Cheers!🥃
Great comparison. Only have two so far, but they're the OESV and OESK, so I'm off to a good start, it seems.
Pretty much at this point if I find any Four Roses Single Barrel I'm going to pick it up because each individual Barrel seems to taste different even if it's the same recipe. Thanks for watching Steve!
Just picked up an OESV on Friday. I’m super excited now!
Those barrel strength oesv picks are awesome!
Great video, Chris! Very in depth with descriptions of the recipes. I'd honestly pickup any barrel strength store pick if I came across them. I've found just OESK and OESV barrel strength picks and OSBV non barrel strength all are great. I liked OESV best of these 3. Cheers brother
Those all ranked pretty high for us to so sounds like there is something special with those recipes. Cheers Richie!
I love OESV
I saw the junkies. And now your great episode. I envy you guys. The different recipes have always been a mystery to me - I wish I could taste 10 at once!

Awesome way to do the video! Really liked how it turned out. OESK was top for me, but OBSK, OESV and OBSV were all good personally. Any of the top 6 I wouldn't be upset at owning.
Yeah I honestly that's for sure. We were really nitpicking to find which ones were worse than others it was an incredible experience thanks so much!

I.m a simple man, when i see 10 Four Roses Single Barrel i subscribe :)
Really appreciate it! Would love to do this again sometime and awe how the results differ!🥃
I just bought one with no recipe label. Im new to this. That sux
Same here. Four Roses Single Barrel (does not say "Barrel Strength") No recipe label. Confused.

All 10 Roses baby!
Hey is that the Buffalo Trace bracelet on
Good eye buddy! It is from a tour last August and it has still survived this long!
How you know which number they were? Where does it say it?
For the single barrel picks it should say the recipe on it. If it is a normal single barrel offering they are all obsv
Bourbinsane Thanks.. I’m just getting started with whisky.
