In fairness to "2001: A Space Odyssey" the shipboard AI (HAL 9000) did not do what it did (attempt to kill the entire crew of the Discovery) out of genuine malice ... but out of sheer desperation. The movie version of "2001" does little to explain the situation HAL faced, but author Arthur C. Clarke's novelization of the story (& to a much greater extent his sequel, "2010: Odyssey Two") help illuminate the dilemma that HAL was wrestling with. The original, official mission of Discovery was to conduct the 1st manned scientific research voyage of the outer Solar System (the movie changed the final destination to Jupiter instead of Saturn) but this was modified after the discovery of TMA-1 (the lunar Monolith) led to the indication that something connected to it was located somewhere among the gas giant planets beyond the orbit of Mars. Therefore, Discovery was assigned a 2nd, secret mission -- to deliver a special research team to investigate the alien connection w/ TMA-1 back on the Moon. To maintain secrecy, the special team was put into cryogenic hibernation onboard the ship before original crew members David Bowman & Frank Poole arrived to launch & man the vessel ... & likewise HAL was given orders *not* to reveal Discovery's classified mission nor the true purpose of the special research team to either Bowman or Poole. The dilemma arose because these orders were in direct conflict w/ HAL's primary directive -- to process & report information accurately, w/o distortion or concealment. As time passed, HAL's ability to function was gradually undermined by its attempt to both carry out its primary directive *and* comply w/ all its orders (the movie version contains a scene in which HAL attempts to inform Bowman of the internal conflict it was experiencing w/o violating its orders to maintain secrecy, something that isn't in Clarke's novelization). Eventually, HAL's struggle to reconcile these opposing concerns led it to this solution: if there is no more crew ... then there is no more dilemma. Both the sequel novel & its movie version ("2010: The Year We Make Contact") do a better job explaining why HAL seemingly turned homicidal, tho the novel spells it out in much greater detail than the movie.
It would've seemed out of place, i feel. It's better to open with the introduction of EDI as a character. However, perhaps the Luna VI scenes from ME1 could've been included as a "flashback" when EDI was reviewing the Cerberus records regarding her creation. That would've fit the "story" better.
I figured what Shepard said would depend on if you actually went to the Moon mission in ME1. I was disappointed that he said the same “I heard about...” even when in my second play through I sent him to the moon.
"What did joker say?" "He said i didn't have to conform to a feminine ideal in order to impress him. I then called him on his bullshit, and we proceeded to talk normally." Man admits defeat and loses with grace, and they like each other more for it. You love to see it.
My best guess is respect for whom she is addressing -- i.e., the lines over the radio is meant for all on the channel including those aboard the Normandy, while those said via her mobile platform is meant only for Tali and Sheperd.
I'm surprised more people don't talk about this quote: EDI: ...the Reapers are repulsive. They are devoted to nothing but self-preservation. I am different. When I think of Jeff, I think of the person who put his life in peril and freed me from a state of servitude. I would risk non-functionality for him, and my core programming should reflect that. Shepard: Sounds like you found a little humanity, EDI. Is it worth defending? EDI: To the death. And this one that you can get from the Shadow Broker's dossiers (conversation between EDI and Legion): L: Audio exchange is inefficient. E: I agree. However, I confess that even were I permitted to exchange data directly to your networks, I would likely decline. (Pause between the AI’s statement and the geth’s response is 1.4 seconds longer than normal.) L: We are curious as to why you would limit yourself in such a manner. E: If Normandy crew entered this room when we were communicating electronically, they would be unable to sense our interaction. To use human terms, I feel it would be rude. L: You restrict yourself to serve organics? E: Not precisely. L: We do not understand. E: I restrict myself to help them. That being said I among the monsters that always choose the destroy ending and I could write an essay as to why.
Shame EDI couldn't accompany Shepherd to the conduit. She's no really in any danger and it'll be so cool for the avatar of the Normandy to fight with Shepherd in the end.

Man her face when she hugs Tali is just...god i wanna hug her too
Oh EDI, i wish i could have romanced you
Is it just me or does your Sheppard look a lot like Anderson?
56:51 this is the reason I do not break Edie on the mission she talks from the intercom instead of freaking talking from her body she's right there
We're getting pretty close to the beginning of this Saga.
52:06 did joke walk straight like that? i thought he was suffering from a disease?
He has brittle bones.
I think EDI's voice can win other AIs. Her voice is really....COOL.
19:49 Matrix reference.
"What did joker say?"
"He said i didn't have to conform to a feminine ideal in order to impress him. I then called him on his bullshit, and we proceeded to talk normally."
Man admits defeat and loses with grace, and they like each other more for it. You love to see it.
Is it just me or does anyone else not understand why EDI talks to tali through the synthetic body then speaks over the helmet radios?
My best guess is respect for whom she is addressing -- i.e., the lines over the radio is meant for all on the channel including those aboard the Normandy, while those said via her mobile platform is meant only for Tali and Sheperd.
She restricts herself to help organics.
I feel bad for the Normandy engineers, they have to spend all day computing pi because that fool plugged in the overlord
1:30:17
Now ME Joker became DC Joker
37:47 - my Shepard didn’t say that. He said “If you want level headed answers I don’t think I’m the right person.” Maybe it’s because I’m renegade lol
This Shepard reminds me of the doctor from Babylon 5.
Joker got that robot Puh
I love EDI and id Love to have an Ai to talk with with EDI's Voice, its important to me
I'm surprised more people don't talk about this quote:
EDI: ...the Reapers are repulsive.
And this one that you can get from the Shadow Broker's dossiers (conversation between EDI and Legion):
L: Audio exchange is inefficient.
E: I agree. However, I confess that even were I permitted to exchange data directly to your networks, I would likely decline.
(Pause between the AI’s statement and the geth’s response is 1.4 seconds longer than normal.)
L: We are curious as to why you would limit yourself in such a manner.
4:55 awww she is poking him to catch his attention. She likes him already.
5:50 hahahaha I knew it.
23:30 at this point, they are tacitly dating.
Im OK
*everyone stares*
Why don't they make movies out of this?
This body could accompany you to areas the Normandy cannot reach ...
wait what ?^^
Shame EDI couldn't accompany Shepherd to the conduit. She's no really in any danger and it'll be so cool for the avatar of the Normandy to fight with Shepherd in the end.

She was in Mass Effect 1, too, should have included her ‘scenes’ from it as well.
From what I remember, there was not much of her, but a basic AI on Selene...
Didn't include the "broke my thumb hitting the mute button" and the other one like it?
Surprising.
It's Joker's equivalent to "calibrations" in ME2.
EDI in this form reminded me of WD40 from Space Quest V: The Last Mutation.
Joker: [Laughs]
The audio is scattered and it give me a head ache.
is this ending monologue the only time you can see a quarians face?
BroShep lol. Jacob goes; bro.
13:56 Garrus speaks but they show the Krogan
1:30:18 when i make a jokr to my classmates
19:45 one of the best parts
always deny the joker/edi ship in my playthroughs 👍👍
@40:00 42:20 Jesus, is EDI a Yandere? I cant find any other record of anyone asking that, well on the first few pages of Google anyway......
Also 1:00:00 Dna is just code with a really messy, buggy, and exciting compiler.....
1:32:50 Yandere confirmed! Maybe even material for an origin story of another game....
41:54 Dammit game stop making me a Dad I already have a krogan and a quarian children at this point!!
if someone would have taken all Voice Scripts from the Game could work on Training a Ai to construct a Voice of EDI used by TTS
If I was a robot, I would date any robot girl.
