@@Barbarossa125 Ace Attorney, Danganronpa, and several other borderline cases like the other Zero Escape games were kept on VNDB after the term "visual novel" was made more clear/strict in a rule change a while back, mainly due to fear of random people complaining if they were to be taken off. (To give a reference on how lax the rules were, Persona 3 and 4 were on VNDB at one point.) Zero Time Dilemma released *after* this clarification, and therefore did not need to be grandfathered in out of fear of complaints
Is there any term to distinguish between VNs where your choices take you down different routes, vs VNs where you're simply along for the ride? 'Played' Higurashi a few years back and while I very much enjoyed the story, it felt strange due to the fact that there were no (meaningful) choices that could be made.
@@DIASENREDS I wonder if Find Love or Die Trying is a dating sim or more exactly a visual novel? Because it's a bit different, due to spoiler plot reasons. But I liked how the plot is about a dating show. Otherwise, I'm going to look into Senren * Banka to make sure. I have been playing Our Life: Beginnings & Always so it's got stats and a lot of loops to make the childhood friend angle work. Can be het too with changable pronouns. I think technically odd games like Slay The Princess might have themes about love. And there's a disclaimer about it being a love story. But it's a visual novel that's also really detail heavy. Just not a stat raiser. Or Monster Camp. That's a jaunty feeling kind of dating sim with the stats.
I don't know how some can categorise it as Kusoge. It is an interactive anime series with an insanely wide branching plot. I can only guess how much effort was put into it to make it.
Labeling School Days as a kusoge is very off. It has extremely high production quality with full on animated scenes of a high visual fidelity and an enormous web of routes and alternate endings. The people who claim its a kusoge simply do not like the story and the main character, you can dislike these things without calling it a bad visual novel when it is not.

(To give a reference on how lax the rules were, Persona 3 and 4 were on VNDB at one point.)
Zero Time Dilemma released *after* this clarification, and therefore did not need to be grandfathered in out of fear of complaints
Seabed mentioned!!!
Would love to see a Swan Song review, despite reading many more VNs it remains #1 in my heart because of the scenario
10:10 - 10:16 the way that it got cut off 😂
😄
Is there any term to distinguish between VNs where your choices take you down different routes, vs VNs where you're simply along for the ride? 'Played' Higurashi a few years back and while I very much enjoyed the story, it felt strange due to the fact that there were no (meaningful) choices that could be made.
I think those that doesn't have any choices (or just a little bit) are called kinetic novels. a good example is Planetarian, from Key
Visual Novels without any choices are known as Kinetic Visual novels
Narcissu mentioned! 🩵
Ace Attorney is my fav visual novel and I still have no clue what category it goes in
Can you recommend some modern dating sim visual novels? preferably if it's translated to english.
I often see them in anime so I'm a bit curious 🧐
Doukyousei Banging Summer!
The latter suggestions by Heroman are more traditionally visual novel than Dating Sim game.
@@TheAugustHail Yeah. Thanks for the help, bro.
Umineko is absolutely Kamige.
school days is a masterpiece!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Saya no uta mention for the win
School Days is a masterpiece but our world is not ready for it
REAL
I don't know how some can categorise it as Kusoge. It is an interactive anime series with an insanely wide branching plot. I can only guess how much effort was put into it to make it.
the best teacher for safe sex, just don't do what the characters did
Is there a list of every visual novel shown in this video? Interested in alot of them.
I Fav Visual Novel Galge,Nakige,Denpa,Kamige❤❤❤
CLASS OF 09 PEAK MENTIONED
Class of 09 is so kamige
Labeling School Days as a kusoge is very off.
It has extremely high production quality with full on animated scenes of a high visual fidelity and an enormous web of routes and alternate endings.
The people who claim its a kusoge simply do not like the story and the main character, you can dislike these things without calling it a bad visual novel when it is not.
I kinda wish they released the PS Vita version of Dramatical Murder in the west. It has no R18 content but the additional content adds some depth to the story. I know the full uncensored version is on Steam now but still, I wish they added the PS Vita content as DLC.
As someone who just recently finished Sakura, Moyu and seeing it here makes me happy, although it was just a glimpse. Definitely Kamige-tier.
Hashihime of the old book town mentioned!!!🎉❤ what the fuck is a mentally stable character!?🔥🔥
6:08 Is there a Shizuku translation patch? Last time I looked around I couldn't find one.
its honestly kinda sad how NTY has become the front of "bara" VNs, after all fat men are also a big part in bara media, if we go by popularity i wouldve put morenatsu but most truly bara VNs are either not localized or VERY unpopular
you should check out whispers of the luminaries. its in demo still but even the demo is quite good imo. I've never really played detective games but it really made me pay attention instead of just going through each item hoping it will work
Please help! Can someone tell me where 4:32 is from? ("I would never yearn...never curse") and 4:39 and 4:47? Heck, just tell me all the Utsuge ones haha! I'd honestly love recommendations for this genre right now, I need it~
It sucks that most of the really good guro vns remain untranslated. Maggot Baits was an experience I can never forget.
NO THANK YOU MENTIONEDDDD😭😭😭😭😭😭😭🔥🔥🔥
muv luv- absolute peak
I have read at least of 46 visual novels out there and I swear that I never thought I need this video so bad. Although my read list is not as much as you do or as much as floatingtrash is, I am at least proud of the number of visual novels I have read. This just shows that the world of VN is really huge and I am here to become a student again. Despite that I have just finish my masters, I felt like this video really shows that you have the PhD in Visual Novels, and I am so glad that I follow this channel 😊(I am just a zako reader comparing to you 🤣)
Also can anyone tell me what is the name of this VN at 0:07 where there's two girls wearing blue clothes on the top? I have been searching for this VN but I don't even remember the name of this title please. Thanks in advance.
Haha, thanks, although there's plenty of people out there that know more than me.
The two girls are from Evenicle
@@TheAugustHail Thank you so much 👍
cute girls doing cute things is what we need for world peace
You forgot the courtroom battles
Hahaha I feel like "detective" point and click style games with visual novel elements are classified slightly differently.
@@behindyou9743 the amount of text in ace attorney definitely makes it count as a visual novel. Besides, there are a few other games that have done it as well, Attorney of the Arcane comes to mind.
@@theoriginalcatfish I get what you mean, I’ve played such games with amazing plot as well - not limited to the courtroom, but have a similar style of finding and presenting the right “evidence”. Perhaps it could be another sub-category of visual novels like you implied.
as a blge enthusiast, thanks for remembering about us lolol, guy creators often don't
also sweet pool is a kamige
Now even though I never played a visual novel or dating sim for that matter. Reading the story just intrigues me though.
8:22 NOIZ NOIZZ AAAFGGHHHJ
1:15 Hmm, attractive girls you say 🤔
Damn right, Asuka Minato best girl.
umineko on top ‼
nitro origin sounds like something ea would do
I'll never be the same after all Nitro+Chiral BL novels... Sweet Pool, Togainu no Chi, DmMd, Lamento, Slow Damage, they are just SOOOO good. Also, for everyone interested in genre, you should try "Beyond Eden", game from Korean studio i guess???
As for otome, "7's scarlet" is a very cool game. CrIed a LOT
0:07 evenicle mentioned now I can die happily
Gotta send this to friends so they can understand me GKFKF XD
Excellent explanations!! :D
This video is peak content
2:44 What is the name of that game? I really like the artstyle
