Your little honda don't fear the danger, I IS THE DANGER ! :D
I was quite tense when you said you were angry and started riding madly. Honestly you set me up to anticipate a crash or something just as bad. Glad you are alright! Great vid, great roads, good riding. Keep them coming!
+Petar Boshnakov thanks Petar! Take a look at my newer RAW uploads to see how my riding has improved since then!
Here you go again making me jealous with those awesome roads and amazing scenery! one day I shall come ride with you bro :)
That would be completely awesome :) Thanks, Salt!
You sir, are a legend! Just goes to show, a humble CB 500 piloted by a man with balls of steel can prove to be the best riding ive seen, ever! Carry on what you do, cos it amazes me everytime :D id kill to have roads like that in England!
thank you very much, Adam! What an epic comment! :)
I've come back 9 years later, a changed man. I can no longer ride due to a bike crash (broken back and paralysed arm), but I still come back to this video and remember the good times I had when I rode my own 500. I still get goosebumps when I listen to the engine, and I remember all the vibrations, the way it rode, the sensation of f it all like muscle memory. So thank you Schaaf, for reminding me of the good times, and I hope you carry on enjoying your own good times.
You rode this road like an Italian maniac. LOL. I enjoyed this adventure of yours and I know the feeling. You took the right bike to do this. It was right at its limit of acceleration, braking, leaning, turning traction, everything... Excellent!
thanks man
One word... Jealous
That road man, wow! its to die for. Your very lucky.
We definitely are here in Austria! Although you shouldn't forget that for these kinds of roads I need to travel for a bit as well ;)
Great roads, great countryside, great riding.Very much enjoyed! thanks Schaaf
thanks for watching & commenting :)
Great! I always miss my ER-5 when I see your videos. Got to ride it some in the spring :) Glad I kept it and gave it to my dad, so he can ride from time to time :)
nice! keeping a bike in the family is always a smart move ;)
Your videos are always so hypnotising
like an accident the are kinda disgusting but you can't take your eyes off at the same time right? ;)
loving the video again! seeing these vids of your summer vacation rides just make me want to get towards the alps with my bike also :D
thank you! You definitely should!
Great video man! Love the way you ride and describe your videos! 👏😁👍
Thanks
That was excellent sir! So much back fire, that cb500 looks like a blast
thank you very much!! :)
That was really nice to watch!.
Subscribed.
thanks a lot, much appreciated!!
Love your videos. Unbelievable scenery and great ridding skills.
thanks a lot, William!
Fantastic video!
thank you!!
Stunning roads! Love that spirited riding, mistakes and all. Can't learn without them!
thanks a lot!! :),
I love your videos, Schaaf! Great skills! Greetings from an Honda Hornet owner from Italy :)
Grazie! ;)
Awsome technique . Love your vids keep the good work :)
thank you, Łukasz Witwicki !!!
Nice riding dude - loved the vid - roads look perfect there
thanks a bunch, Dale!
great upload, i love hearing the page scrape and that 500 getting screwed!
i agree it takes more balls to go fast down hill.
wow what a road Just goes show you don't need a super sport to have fun thanks for uploading
thanks for watching!
Deine Videos machen immer wieder Spaß anzuschauen :)
danke!! Eure auch! :)
Damn.
I need to get a slower bike.
And move to Italy.
Nikel87 moving to Italy is a great idea but getting a slower bike not so much ;)
With a slow bike you can concentrate on the corners instead off the gas.
Anyway.
Great video.
Looks so much fun.
Nikel87 you can concentrate on the corners on every bike. You just need to use your right hand sensibly and don't pull on the throttle like an utter maniac. I'd choose a small bike because it's more agile and easier to flick around. Not because it's slower. Something like a BMW S1000RR could still be the quickest bike on a road like the shown Passo Pramollo. The problem is just that too many big-bike riders never learned how to ride properly because riding a powerful machine on a PUBLIC ROAD (not talking about the racetrack) doesn't teach you anything. You don't even need to change gears on a liter bike. On a big bike you simply accelerate hard after you fucked up your line going through a corner. You can't do that on a CB500. If you want to ride quick on a weak bike you simply have to learn how to ride a quick and safe line, how to change gears quickly, how to ride with momentum instead of breaking hard. And in the end that's how you should ride every bike. I'm saying that you'll learn most and best on a small and weak bike. But if you want to go REAL fast then you also need a powerful bike. The CB is too weak.
I think we share the same thought's.
I have two pretty fast bikes.
My Zx6r and my Husqvarna 500 Supermotard.
The zx6 is great on trackdays but it got stiff springs that doesn't really work on bumpy roads.
The Husqvarna is superlight but got so much power that it's kinda insane to drive anywhere.
I remember a couple of years ago when I was doing some commercial work on 125cc scooters with hangers on.
The last day we took the hangers off and rode the shit out of these slow crapbikes.
Scraped everywhere, no power so we just launched into the corners hoping we would survive.
We weren't going any fast but with no handling, no brakes and no ground clearance.
It felt like 200.
Nikel87 haha yea, the CB500 starts wobbling heavily in corners faster than 120kph. I always feel like Guy Martin doing 300+ on the Isle Of Man hahaha
I could watch you ride those streets all day long!
awesome! Thanks a lot, man!!
Amazing riding, subscribed!
thanks a lot, much appreciated!
Great riding! It's always a lot of fun to squeeze the last HP out of a small engine, as I try with my SV.
it is! Thanks!
This is one of the best motorbike videos i have ever seen.
I would rather thrash a small bike, than a large one. All of the fun with fewer of the scares.
Great riding mate!
great comment, mate!! Thank you very much!
*Kinder, guckt her!* Der Mensch hier hat sicher *TOTAL* viel Ahnung vom Mopedfahren!
Wow
That was some great grinding action right there :)
Amazing views great road great riding skills
Very good video
Thumbs up and thank you for the ride :)
thanks a lot, Sam!! :)
Danke vielmals!
Loved the scraping exhaust achievement. Found a cb500 for 3400 I might be getting it just cause of you but there's about a foot an a half of snow so I won't be riding for a while. Thank god for your videos.
thanks a lot, mate! Where do you live? 3400 sounds like a lot of money for a CB500 ;)
From Calgary Alberta, Canada. what did you pay for yours? the model i'm looking at is a 2002
hopstir69 €1500 with 36.000km on the clock. Should've paid 1100-1200 though. But I was young and dumb back in the days ;) But of course mine is from 1994 and therefore much older.
For not knowing the roads too well (map on the tank), you sure looked like you did :) Your aggressive but controlled riding is awesome, and I wish I lived near a beautiful place like this.
You got that right, I didn't know these roads at all. This run was my third one. I did one "test-run" to check for hazards etc. I wanted to film the second run already but my GoPro froze right in the middle of the road. So I had to do it a third time. Unfortunately my GoPro froze once more but this time I had to continue with riding since I had a lot of riding left to do on that day. (spent the whole day on unfamiliar roads, riding & exploring is my favorite thing to do :) )
Now that was an awesome ride
thanks!
Just an excellent video - thanks. I have decades of riding experience and I reckon you would leave me standing. However please don't be tempted too push to far just for the audience. This is real world motorcycling on a great little bike on a fabulous road. Ride safe.
thanks for your concern and the nice words, Ian.
Great skills, man! Keep safe.
thank you!
Great! It was a very exciting ride!
thanks, Javier!
macht richtig Spaß anzuschauen =)
freut mich!! Danke!
You ride awesome bro subed any tips for double apex cos I want to improve my riding
If i find one old cb500 , i'll send you another pair of pegs, that baby deserve it!
Great video again
Greeting from Croatia, similar road here too
all good I stopoed riding like that a long time ago
Looks awesome. I want to visit.
It was!
vielen Dank, kat! :)
nice video man!!
thanks man!
Ótimo video!
thank you, Allan! :)
Wow where is this Weg located at, Scenary in Austria looks darn good like the one in Romania, Ardeal region
what are you doing? google maps says you need 19 minutes without traffic lol
greetings to the NeuTroll
:D :D
I fucking howled with laughter at the achievement unlocked.
laughter? Good for you ;) I kinda shat my pants when it happened but felt like the biggest hero at the same time. Very weird feeling. But definitely awesome as well.
It was the "Achievement unlocked" that made me laugh not the riding, I'll have to watch it again to see what you did. Because you distracted me with gamer stuff.
magnificent roads
indeed
Nice ride dude
thanks, dude!
awesome road and great weather, whilst here in the uk its icey :( roll on summer :)
memories like these are the only things keeping me sane through winter times ;)
have you noticed how it is easier to scrape the left peg than the right? It's due to the camber of the road. the centre is usually higher than the edges so when cranked over the road is closer to start with! Here in the UK it is the opposite it's easier to ground the right peg. By the way my mate did this and was thrown off when his peg went into a pothole and spun the bike. Nasty Mess, him and the bike. Dave UK.
scraping pegs has to be done with caution, yea
Also I believe the note on the tank only says "Don't die on the next turn!"
;))
keep them coming man! I've another 6 months before I get to ride these roads! :(
Yes, Sir! It will be worth the waiting :)
Dont feel embarrassed, youre the best driver ive ever seen. ;)
I'm afraid you haven't seen lots of riders then ;)
;p Ride safe!
Looking back to this video, what do you think of your riding back then? Are you happy with it? Do you think it's dangerous? Do you think it was not smooth enough? Thanks, I always appreciate your content
Danke!
Love that content, i have a question, do you put your knees out or no ? seems no, i have a cbf500 i would like to know if it’s possible to lean like this without putting knees out
Thank you for sharing
No and Yes
Fahr so weiter. Stay safe.
danke dir vielmals!!
Would be interesting to see what you could do on a bike such as a KTM 690 on these roads. You're fast on that little Honda but It's fair to say you're pushing her to her limits :).
Nice riding! Great editing as well - the small stuff is hilarious.
trust me I'd love to do these kind of roads on a KTM :) Thanks man!
Great video! What kind of tyres are you using in this video? How do the front brakes cope with all that hard braking?
thank you! Bridgestone BT45! They don't cope with that too well actually. I even have steelflex brake lines on my CB but the CB wasn't made for this kind of riding. The brakes over-heat rather quickly but usually they keep working well enough for my (low) standards :) But it certainly did happen more than once that I had to take out all my pace because the brakes more or less stopped working because the beating was too much for them.
Awesome riding man. Sub'd through Leadpin. Cool vids :-)
thanks a lot, Scott! Thanks a lot, ***** !
Haha! The speed limit sign at 5:50 made me laugh! Amazing riding Schaaf, this video made me a little sad because I can't ride at the moment.. and it made me want nothing more than to leap on my bike and find roads like this near me.. Sadly the SuperDuke is a write off. :(
thanks a lot, Dragon :)) I'm very sorry to hear about your big Duke :/ I definitely hope you can return to the bike as quickly as possible!
Is there a video that other people recorded of you riding? I wanted to see your riding position because from this view you made it look so easy!!
th-cam.com/video/bFbz_JO1qs8/w-d-xo.html
Thats some good riding there. How well do you know those roads?
What scares me on nice roads I know and can go fast is coming around a corner and finding a tractor or cars behind bicycles....boom!
***** I went down the road two times before I recorded the video. Other than that it was my first time on it. No reward without taking risks.
Nice what's that location be in Italy in July..
wow that's what i call skill!! amazing
+LocoJovo thanks a lot! My skills have improved a lot since recording this video! Feel free to check out my more recent RAW uploads!
+Schaaf yes i see, in the last few days i watched a lot of your videos, that cb 500 is beautiful! and you rock!
+LocoJovo thank you very much!
Another fantastic instalment Schaaf. Scraped ya pipe jeez! If another levels unlocked is that getting ya camera to kiss the barriers...NOT a challenge mate.
thanks a lot, Toobi! The scraping pipe came unexpected. But at least now I know how the absolute lean limit on the right side feels like on my little Honda ;)
Here here to the little Honda's!! Feeling more confident on the downhill runs by the way. Knowing ones limits is good and so is testing them. Cheers for ya comments mate.
Nice Video, as always. just wondering, as much as I like the chest mount, is there a reason why you dont have your camera mounted onto your helmet?
thanks a lot! I just love the chest POV the most for these onboard rides. I mount the camera onto my helmet whenever I want to pick up the scenery :)
ha ok, thanks for getting back to me. keep up the great Videos :)
Excellent.
I guess the bonus is, your bike gets a little lighter too, after every ride on those superb roads :)
thanks, Turtle!! Hehehe, indeed ;)
Very Nice! I have a Honda CB500 as well...... you could make a video with the camera on the pedals!!!!! will be awesome
Eduardo Brito thanks man! There are videos of my footpegs on my Facebook page! (link in the description text)
wow what a ride !!!!! this downhill would take me half an hour :D
ehehe :D thank you!
"Achievement Unlocked" lol
Nice work!
Troy Nguyen danke!!
How long did it take you to get from Vienna to Villacho/Klagenfurt and did you use the autobahn to get there?
+The Hambleton biker I would never use the Autobahn over such a long distance :) I chose a nice route with lovely mountain roads so it took me around 8 hours. Breaks included
I watched your video days before buying my first motorcycle, a beautiful CB500 2001. I was with her for six months, until i had an accident. Today looking at facebook found your video again. Unfortunately you are right, quick downwill separates boys from men. however i intend to walk with her, the best motorcycle in the world, at least for me.
+Állyson Peloggia I hope you didn't get hurt!!
+Schaaf I broke the femur, the right zygomatic and a thumb in hand. My girlfriend had open fracture in the femur, broke the basin, three fingers in the foot, and one in the hand. We're recovering... But 500 have not started to fix. We hit head-on with a bus.
+Állyson Peloggia oh my god! :O A bus? I'm sorry to hear that but you also have to be glad that you're still alive I guess!
Nice ride man. :)
thank you! :)
Are your tires standard 130/80-17 and 110/80-17? I'm asking because I just ordered bt45 in 70 profile instead of 80.. Hope the aspect ratio difference doesn't ruin my cb500 riding ability. 😀 Fantastic video by the way.
yes I'm using the standard sizes. Thanks btw!
Wow Schaaf! Once again you have the palms of my hands ringing wet! Very intense and exciting to watch, but good lord man, please be careful... Curiosity is killing me to know what the duct taped notes on your tank are for. If it were me riding down this road like that, it would be a prayer... LOL. Ride safe my friend!
thanks a lot, Shawn!! The notes on my tank are my road maps. On these I write down the route for the day. This video was shot during my summer holidays and I wasn't familiar with the places I went to ride so I needed some directions :) If I come across a road like this I usually go for a test-ride without the camera rolling to see if everything is safe and free of hazards. Then I'll do the video run. This run down actually was my third one because my GoPro only recorded half of the run on the previous one. This time the camera didn't make it through the whole road once more but I had no more time to re-do it since I had quite a bit of road to do still ahead of me on that day!
That's cool that you're doing pre-runs... I was thinking that might be what the notes were for. Sorry that your GoPro's giving you problems...
Shawn Smoak not any longer since I bought a 3+ Black Edition a couple of weeks ago ;)
***** unfortunately not :( I live in Vienna, quite a bit off from all the sweet mountains you see in my videos :/
Your eagerness to get past the infamous campervan nearly got you in trouble. That gave the brakes a good testing. xD
He who makes no mistakes never makes anything. You live, you learn.
I think the fact you got stuck behind that car in the tunnel actually helped you cool down a little because you start riding smoother after that. ;)
yea that camper definitely was a proper braking test. Although I was still using only one finger on the brake lever. I'm not strong enough to get the front to lock up using only one finger. So theoretically I had some reserves left lol.
Very good observation with the short break in the tunnel. I definitely felt even more confident afterwards so I guess it really did cool me down a bit.
you made any changes to the rear suspension? and the measure of the rear tire?
+Luiz Curcio th-cam.com/video/AcsQ8jDqGbU/w-d-xo.html
Great riding! Great views... Just out of curiosity how do you position yourself taking bends? Do you push down on bars and pegs to help take bends at speed. Looking at the video it seems like you are not hanging off the bike. Which I am glad to see because it seems to me all this hanging off a bike isn't needed and more like trying look like rossi...
thank you very much! You've seen that right, I don't hang off the bike at all. There's no doubt that riding hang off will always be the quickest way to get you around a corner on tarmac. But it's simply no fun for me on the old CB. Plus keeping a neutral body position allows me to react much quicker to any unpredictable hazard on the road.
Schaaf I know you keep saying you dont need to hang off the bike, but have you tried it? The bike is more stable and, as you said, you can go around the corners quicker... if you "can" go around quicker, then at the same speed, you have more room for error. You have confidence on the bike, so start experimenting.
Nerb1
have you ever tried hang off on a 20 year old $1000 bike? No? Sliding around on the seat gets the CB into hardcore wobble mode. It's no problem with long and wide corners and I do ride hang off in these quite a bit. But with a road like this, where there's nothing else but sharp turns, she gets way to unstable before the turns from all the quick moving around from one side to the other. Her suspension was just not made for riding like that. Plus it's not safer at all. Hang off makes me go around corners faster. It does lower the center of gravity and certainly improves the stability indeed. Once you've gotten down there lol. But still I'd rather ride a corner on a public road with my body upright since this position allows me to react so much quicker to any unexpected hazard on the road. And that's a fact. Hang off looks awesome, feels awesome, is awesome. But not on narrow, public mountain roads with my little Honda. The best would be to slightly move body & butt to the sides in the corners. But no full-blown hang off.
Danke dir! :)
Hi Schaaf, very good videos, keep them coming! One suggestion - try mounting the camera on the helmet. That way, we can see further ahead and maybe people like me will stop getting scared you will crash at every corner. GoPro has helmet mounts. Just an idea anyway. Ride safe!
Hi Eduard! You might want to check out a couple of other videos of mine before you try to advice me on my camera work! Thanks though!
Your little honda is very fast... becouse of your riding style I imagine you will get a 1200 one day... So Its a good thing you test your limits in your 500, that wey you and your bike go to the limit... but imagine 1200, I bet you reach the limit way before the bike does... :D
Very nice vid again ty for sharing.
thank you for watching & commenting! Maybe I will buy a 1200 one day when I get too old and lazy for shifting. Until then I'd rather stay with smaller engines. They are much more fun on public roads!
Hehe sound of the 500 is EPIC
yea
Great riding Schaaf you have a natural ability on a bike and I enjoy watching and picking up pointers from your videos. I am curious as to why you raise your right index finger, do you single finger under breaking? This is by no means a criticism on my part just curious.
thanks a lot mate!! Yes, I only use my index finger for braking. That's why I keep it raised like that, it helps me to get him back to the lever as quickly as possible.
I see :-), cheers mate for the reply.
I have a CB500 and I'm yet to scape the pegs down.. I was wondering if it could somehow spit you off the bike if it hit an uneven patch or road or something? this guy seems completely comfortable scraping all the way around! impressive
Cracks in the road surface can be dangerous when scraping pegs. You always have to adapt your speed to the road surface. I didn't care about that back in the day when I made that video ;)
@@Schaaf I thought that, thanks for the tip. I'm gonna get those pegs down! haha danger didn't scare us from a good time.
have a good one bud! :)
Take care body!! You got a great style 'nd the line appears to me as worthy to learn from you!
thank you!!
... immer gerne! :-)
Wow that's just fast brother. You should post a video showing your body position on one of your rides it would look great to see how much you work at that high of speed.
thanks, Israel! My body doesn't do any work at speeds like this. I'm riding my CB sitting 100% upright, not moving my ass an inch off to either side of the seat.
You may have answered this before but I would like to know what is on the paper that looks to be taped onto the tank area of your bike?
Israel Chavez it's my road map for the whole day of riding!
thats a nice ride... wish i could ride like that... by the way, which one would you chose cb500 or cbf500? cb looks smaller, isnt it?
CB500 PC26 or PC32 without a doubt
Schaaf why? they priced similary, but cbf got abs and is newer. why cb is better? im deciding what to buy...
the old one is more agile
Tolle Videos.
Somehow i missed this video so i just watched it. If your bike is your "little Honda" then mine is "my baby Honda"(1982 CM 250T) it was 27bhp in 1982 but i think 4 or 5 of those horses escaped over the years. It has 6 gears but again a couple of them decide to go "undercover" every now and then which makes interesting riding if you're on a winding road. You think your brakes are bad i think my front pads are made of butter !! As for "Heisenberg" well we all have those on occasions or even the odd "Jessie"which isn't quite as scary. I love to ride but when i can't ride i watch so thanks again for the video's.
thank YOU for sharing the story!
Schaaf Yeah it was a bit long sorry. I might manage a ride this week yipeeeeeee !!
Jeremy Markham wish you the best! Don't ever apologize again though for writing long comments :)
Schaaf Many thanks for the that. Stay safe.
That's a wild ride indeed. I'm getting my licence this summer. I'm 26 and in finland allowed to ride any bike. I've still decided to get a smaller engined bike for my first and since I don't want to spent thousands of euros in a new hobby I'm thinking CB 500. I've watched a lot of your videos so i'd quess you would recommend it. Tho i'm not going to ride like a maniac until I got 40k km or so lol.
+Pyllymysli yes I definitely recommend it :D
coole videos hast mein abo ;) was klebt da eig fürn zettel aufm tank?
danke dir, freut mich!!
romans knew how to build fun roads!
that is correct
Nicely done Schaaf, nothing too dangerous in this...was expecting worse from the text...we all have moments like this...I too am selective in what I upload :)
Nice speed limits in Italy eh? I hope I don't get that achievement of yours...no amount of natural riding would allow that lol.
You need some rearsets!!!
thanks a lot, mate!! The whole ride went pretty smooth actually. But I did lose my line two times, not on purpose. I'm serious about "responsible speeding" so not being able to keep my safe riding line worries me very much. I thought for quite some time how and if I should upload this. But I need to accept that most of my subs appreciate these rides just like I do. I'll have to accept that I can't please everybody :D
Ride up to the limit but never past it, isn't that what they say...tho its hard to tell were the limit is sometimes ;)
That's true tho i cant see how anyone could dislike the REAL riding that you show...
Nice downhill ride :-) that go pro freezing had happened to mine too, you probably use a wrong class sd card. Put another sd card whit a class announced by them and probably stop that freezing. Sorry if my English is not the best 👊✌️
it was my camera's fault, I used the right cards back then :) Thanks still!!
sau guter fahrer. macht allein schon beim zuschauen spaß ;)
making your youtube name come true, schaaf means scrape in dutch
haha I learned this just recently :D That's pretty awesome I guess ^^
