I've driven Both d and B series crx's. The only worthwhile swaps are the b16a2 and the b17 b18c1/5. The dohc zc is very nice. But the aftermarket support is not there. The b16a1 is hard to mod die to emmissions testing.
@@iivv_nn I owned two DB2 Integras so I can vouch that the B17A1 engines are nice. A friend owned a B18C1 swapped CRX around 2007 and that car surprised me. It was a quick FWD. With a passenger, it would bark 4th gear. To be honest, I have no idea what tires were on it. I was working on my first DB2 and he came by and asked if I wanted to check it out. I jumped in with him, found a nice long road to do a 0 to the end of fourth gear and realized how much faster a Honda which weighed 400-500 lbs less with 0.1 liter more displacement was.
Dohc zc in my 89 y49 is extremely fun and just the sound is out of this world

I'm kind of surprised the intake/header/exhaust actually has a bit better performance with no tune than all stock components and on ebay parts on top of that. Looked like a blast though

Awesome to watch, ive always been a 4banger guy but more into turbocharged motors. U get so much more power out of them for less money n mods. But man, the sounds a n/a 4banger make r just plain beautiful!!! 😉😉😉

@@GarageBuiltHondas yes, an intake-header n full exhaust will definitely give u more top end power.
Just remember, off the line, when u r spinning in first don't just shift to second bc u will get traction n the rpms will drop just enough for u to get about 1,500 more rpms of first before shifting to second. At least that's how it's always worked for me. I hate it when I see ppl slam second just bc they r spinning, once the cars moving n those tires grab the rpms will drop down 1500-2000 rpms n that's a lot of missed potential in a drag race. 😉😉

@@vanquishstorm3806 I had the low end 1990 HF trim level crx. It Had a little green light that tells when you shift to get the best gas mileage I'm assuming? Idk, regardless of the trim level it was an awesome car dude.

We did something like this back in early 2000 with 2 dual port crx and we found out the one closest to stock was always faster.. the one with stock exhaust gutted out and air intake always beat the one with headers intake and full exhaust.. seemed like torque was lossed. But only at the end of 4th gear the full modded crx would come back and pull and onlywas after 400mm

I love the D16A6 its a decent motor even had one rebuilt in Edmonton by speedyauto they did an amazing job when i turned the key the car purred with the cannon i had when i finally took my first drive it was like a brand new civic

Awesome vid! Any tips on washing/cleaning Honda engines? I met a guy who says he sprays it down with a hose and it did look nice, but I don't want to fry my alternator etc.
He's correct. Cover the distributor and alternator before doing so and you're good to go. Don't go all crazy where the spark plugs are either.

THIS IS SO WEIRD I have an 88 crx and it’s pretty much a clone of the gray one but rebuilt motor but same rims same reel windows same mirrors same musshimoto rad hoses just red same bolt ons just all DNA motoring and then same nitto ties as you

I only got the OEM intake tube and OEM AIRBOX anything after that I don’t have (y pipe connector , resonator box , snorkel)ON MY d16a6 will I see any issues or cons ? As oppose to having everything??

What you think about a d16y7 with y8 cam and make it be in vtec all the time? No race track around me so just gonna be back roads. LoL..
I don't know if that even works. You may actually suffer and have reduce MPG's and driveability issues if it did. For back roads, you won't need vtec under 5k anyway, you'll hardly be keeping the RPMs that low.

Hey, LOVE the channel, such good info & presentation! I've been looking for my own crx project. I finally found one and she's a project, but I'm looking for a first to learn a lot from it. My largest concern is there's some rust on the rear quarter panel's wheel wells. How concerning is that for a running Si priced at $1,500. @GarageBuiltHondas

@@GarageBuiltHondas the car runs great & looks straight, it's a daily right now. They just want something newer. Interior is near perfect (saving grace) the paint is original and in horrible condition. It will need a paint job, maybe I could learn, I'd be interested. I live north from you in Albuquerque, NM. I see a few here and there on Craigslist, just depends on who's selling for what quality is around. My main concern is that rust. It doesn't seem far or deep, but on both rear wheel wells it makes me seriously nervous, especially since I'm new to this. I had a mechanic buddy check it out with me. He was stoked, but admits he's not a body work guy. He's just seen a lot worse fixed while wrenching at shops.
Being from the area I'd personally wait and keep searching for a rust free one and in better shape. For around 2k you could probably find one decently clean paint still with no rust.
