Steve Meriiott was a great singer, who Jimmy Page considered for the New Yardbirds, the group that became Led Zeppelin. Unfortunately he had a tragic life that came to a sad end when he died in a fire.
Steve Marriot is one of the most soulful singers in rock, or any genre! That man had some serious *soul* and knew how to *get down* and get funky! 🙂 He was one of the best live performers around and truly should get so much more recognition. Humble Pie was incredible in concert!
Steve Mariott was no joke... He was the soul behind The Small Faces and Humble Pie. He also played the Artful Dodger in the musical "Oliver!" The one time I was going to see Humble Pie, someone in the group came down ill. I still regret never seeing them.
One of my Favorites by Steve Marriott ❤ When he sings "my skin is white but my soul is black" ... smiles on every face! Soul is not one race! The Blackberries are his backup group. Damn good performance 💯
Steve Marriott! One of the best rock singers. Humble Pie with Peter Frampton is my favorite. Anything from Performance: Live at the Fillmore will knock your socks off.
Steve Mariott was a Powerhouse Vocalist, one of the Best! "30 Days in the Hole" is a must! Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa has a Cover of this and Beth is a Badass on it! Peter Frampton was in Humble Pie.
Brothers you hit the jackpot! The band is Humble Pie! Singer is Steve Marriott. He’s considered to be the greater singer ever that come from England. The background singers are the Blackberries. The girl on the right was his girlfriend, Clydie King! That’s why she was blushing when he sang , black coffee is the best it can be and I know! She sang with Linda Ronstadt, Bob Dylan and on Sweet Home Alabama. She and her group are fantastic! She sang on a ton of stuff back in the 70s. Check out 5 long years by Steve Marriott( do the live concert video) it is explosive!!
@@jimmoore8951 yes it is . Check out the live version of Linda ronstadt, You’re no good. Clydie King sings with her and skunk Baxter is on Bongos. It’s really good! Clydie is dressed in a mustard yellow outfit

No one like Steve Marriott. The song I WONDER off the Smokin’ album really shows off his singing, guitar skills and harmonica. I fell in love with this at 17 yoa and I’m 69 and song is still enjoyed thoroughly.
Good to see you two checking out that performance. Marriott is one of the great voices of rock. He's up there on my favorites list with Plant, Bob Seger, Greg Allman, Paul Rodgers, Mark Farner etc. You and your viewers should check out a band from the 90's called Cry of Love. Their first album Brother is excellent. A good old (intentionally ) 70's rock vibe. They had a song called Peace Pipe that reached #1 on the Billboard Album tracks chart in '93. The lead vocalist (RIP) was a friend of mine as is the producer, so I'm a little biased of course, but I was actually a fan before I realized some were folks I knew.
Steve was Robert's inspiration. Here's The Small Faces' You Need Loving... listen to it, see what it evolved into when Led Zeppelin covered it. th-cam.com/video/tp0jZ4BGuDw/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUYaHVtYmxlIHBpZSB5b3UgbmVlZCBsb3Zl
Well I’ve been watching a long time from the start and on multiple times I’ve asked for you to react to this man, mainly The Small Faces, all what they’ve done, this man voice is incredible, his style & swag from the early days right up to Humble Pie, please take a deep dive into him/The Small Faces please
Me and my Ky Boy’s, March of 1973, saw H.P. in Louisville. We had several suites at the Galt House. Nicest hotel in Louisville at that time. Later that night after the show, one of the Boy’s got on the elevator to our floor when Steve. and the bands mgr got on the elevator with my friend. Our friend walked into the suite with the Steve and his mgr. We had beer, bourbon, hash and Lude’s, Roar 714’s. Remember, it was 1974. We were freshman at UK, came down for Humble Pie, one our favorite bands. We gave Steve and the mgr a couple of the 714’s each. Steve in turn ask for some of our hash, crunched it up, mixed with a torn menthol cig. tobacco, and rolled several joints. Totally foreign concept to us. 😎! We of course went along with it and the rest is a blur. They stayed just long enough to not be rude by toking and running off, which we appreciated. 30 Days in the Hole was one of favorite songs. Great memories, 8 of the original Boy’s still see each other, though at 69 yrs old, not as easy to travel around the country for concerts anymore.
The man was five foot nothing and full of dynamite sadly passed away during a fire in his house penniless, his performance with Humble Pie from the album Rocking the Filmore epic, I don’t need no doctor, Banging although it was a remake!
Saw them live twice at the Fillmore East in 1971… with Cactus another great band that seems to be forgotten now.. And the opening act was Edgar Winter’s White Trash… great shows
Steve Marriott was really one of the great singers back then. Humble Pie had a lot of great songs, though this live video is maybe the coolest. Peter Frampton was the other guitarist in the early days (not this vid). 30 Day's in the Hole (orig studio version) is must listen. And I Don't Need No Doctor live from Rockin' the Filmore, if you might be interested in a vicious almost ACDC kind of song with great melodic early Frampton soloing in it. I saw Humble Pie open up for Nugent maybe sometime 1980-82ish. They had sound problems, Merriott got really pissed and then they proceeded to play a FEROCIOUS set, really great (per my old unreliable memory). Bobby Tench was playing 2nd guitar, who was the lead singer for Jeff Beck Group 2nd incarnation, kind of interesting trivia.
Aloha gentleman, back in high-school I had an album called HUMBLE PIE ROCKIN THE FILLMORE. I TOOK IT TO EVERY PARTY. SONG I DONT NEED NO DOCTOR. NUFF SAID
Original Humble Pie lineup has Peter Frampton on lead guitar. Steve Marriot generally considered one of the best vocalists of the era--another Brit who can sing American music.
Peter Frampton was in Humble Pie for their first three albums with Steve Marriott. He and Steve decided to go different directions, so Peter left the band. Humble pie’s an awesome rabbit hole and Steve Marriott was just incredible in so many ways.
Peter was a young, co-founding member of Humble Pie for a good while-- for their first five albums. Steve Marriot founded the band, but Peter was right there with him for years, before going solo in '72.
Check out Humble Pie's version of "I Don't Need No Doctor" from the 1971 live album "Rockin' the Fillmore." Another amazing vocal performance by Steve Marriott, plus amazing lead guitar by Peter Frampton.
In 1976, I had the pleasure of playing (losing) a game of Snooker to Steve Marriott at our local pub in (Stratford) East London, the Cart + Horses. Iron Maiden was the "house band."
Marriott was the consummate live performer(when he wasn’t too trashed). Studio albums couldn’t capture it. Saw them once in my early teens with T. Rex as the opener.
The Ike and Tina Turner song done by an English band with Jerry Shirley providing the back beat with Greg Ridley’s grooving bass line. You got Peter Frampton playing slide while the 5’2” Steve Marriott belts out the lyrics with The Blackberries on backing vocals. So glad this was recorded on video for all of us to see and enjoy.
I always remembered that Tina Turner wrote, "Black Coffee". The last time I checked, Tina Turner was credited as the writer. I read that Ike was blaming Tina for not getting a hit record, so she tried her hand at writing songs.
The Old grey whistle test with whispering Bob ( some great live bands on that program), the dude next to the backing vocal gals is Peter Frampton. Steve Marriott, used to be in a band The small faces.
Humble Pie was my first coliseum concert. I learned folding metal chairs are not built for standing. I fell backwards onto the light board and caused a great momentary light show.
Gold standard Steve Marriott had more soul in his pinky than the rest of us white boys put together. There are absolutely levels to this and whatever level this is there ain't no higher!!! Nice pick and thanks for this.
Stevie Marriott is the lead singer. The backup singers were the Blackberries, which consisted of Merry Clayton, Clydie King and Venetta Fields (I think).
So this song is widely reacted to because of Steve Marriot's vocals and the back up singers. They're fabulous, but as a huge Humble Pie fan, this isn't so representative of their work.
And that is the reason Peter Frampton left Humble Pie within a year or two of starting up. He could never be the front man as long as Steve Marriot was in the group too. Humble Pie has another live performance with The Blackberries. 30 Days In The Hole, done on the Midnight Special. One of my favorite live acts in the 70's, along with Jethro Tull and Chicago. th-cam.com/video/xvO8h1kZLQs/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUbaHVtYmxlIHBpZSBhbmQgYmxhY2tiZXJyaWVz

Peter Frampton on guitar boys! Young genius prodigy.....and he's still going today.

Humble Pie one of my favorite bands back then. Steve Marriott was the singer on that one.
Steve Marriott was so good, as a vocalist and a front man for the Small Faces and then Humble Pie, just a very under appreciated star.
One of my favorite Pie songs! Nice!
Reminds me a little of The Black Crows..... there's a deep dive you'd enjoy. Remedy would be a great song to start with 🔥💓
They ripped off their sound, admittedly.
