"Poor lonely Joseph, still the impotent voyeur." With just seven words Alexis completely and utterly annihilates Joseph. Absolutely phenomenal scene, one of the greatest in Dynasty's entire run in fact. Not only is it a fitting introduction to Alexis's studio but it cleverly uses backstory and conflict to create a sense of eerie foreboding and inject an air of mystery and intrigue to both the story and the new character of Alexis. The sinister set and atmospheric lighting seem to be physical projections of the dark malice lurking in Alexis's character and Alexis herself is utterly chilling in the devastating way in which she dissects and then dismisses Joseph, his insults flying off her unruffled composure like arrows off armour. This is the start of the purring malevolence that was to make her so captivating to watch. Perfection.

You can see Collins training in subtle acting. Her facial expression when Joseph stops being humorous and turns to being mean changes in an instant...says it all

Joan said that Lee was difficult to work with in her book and that he tended to be "sneering" off camera as well and that when he was killed off (he actually left the show the suicide wasnt originally planned)...as he had it in his contract he couldnt do anything menial and he exploded once when Joan recommended that HE bring a tray in instead of the day player.

Joseph was a sleazy mean person. He was mean to Krystle and to Alexis. And even when he first met Adam. Not a "decent" man at all (as what Blake said)

If it was her domain and he banished her in 1964 Blake most likely locked it and washed his hands of it instead of re-purposing the space. The cobwebs are cool, rather gothic and creepy.

I always wanted to find out, years later and near the end of the show, that Alexis and Joseph, both drunk -- her because Blake is out of town on business, and Joseph because he'd just come from visiting his wife, Alycia, in the mental asylum -- had a roll in the sack, the two becoming paranoid after they sobered up that the other would tell Blake about the tryst... Alexis, as it would turn out, became pregnant by the majordomo and, before she starts to "show" flies off to London to be with her mummy and discreetly have the child, returning to the States with the infant and presents it to Alycia in the madhouse, leading to the permanent insanity of Joseph's tormented wife... Alexis would taunt Joseph about his boudoir prowess (or lack thereof, "the impotent voyeur") and after Blake later threw her out, she and Joseph wound obliquely threaten one another with revealing that Kirby was their daughter --- which is the real reason Alexis wanted to stop Kirby's marriage to Adam (her half-brother) and then ran the girl out of town.... All this could be revealed in a note Joseph wrote just before his own suicide, a note held in escrow by his lawyers for 6 or 7 years after his death, revealing all to his former employer... Alexis, naturally, denies it all, labeling it a post-mortem scheme to wreak revenge on her. (And Joan would have to be told it's a lie, in order to participate in the storyline, but who knows if Joseph was telling the truth...?).

Magdalenkaization I doubt it, later in the show when Alexis and Blake discuss Kirby’s mother, Alexis mentions about her being an attic nympho...she probably overheard problems between the Mom and Joseph.

I heard it as a nasty characterization of his 'house spy' status. A classy but vicious way of saying: "It's pathetic that you've got nothing better to do with yourself than to get off on my 'doings'."
