World Wide Flora and Fauna (WWFF) activation of Saratoga Island Nature Reserve (VKFF-2713) located on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia. Activation on Saturday 23 December 2023 operating on 17 m (18.085 MHz) and 40 m (7.035 MHz).

There seems to be an issue with the audio between 1:12 and 5:31. The audio will play ok on some devices but not on other devices. The issue seems to occur when I record the audio directly from the headphone jack of the radio. Unfortunately I cannot fix this issue now that the video has been uploaded, 73 de vk2ter

For anyone who can’t hear the cw, try listening in STEREO (plug in headphones). I’ve seen this issue elsewhere, and it happens when listening on a monaural device (both iOS and Android)

@kb2ob Thank you Edward for the recommendation. It does seem like an issue with monaural devices. The Sony digital recorder must record the stereo channels out of phase so they cancel each other out when mixed together on a monaural device, 73

Hi Grant, I purchased the arborist throw bag and line off eBay. The throw bag is 250g / 8.8oz and the line is 15m long which works well for getting the antenna wire into a tree, 73

Thanks Garry, this was my first time using the radio and I really enjoy it. I purchased the version with built in battery and z-match tuner, so only need to attach the CW key and random wire antenna and it is good to go, 73

@@gazgazmag4729 I also have just purchased this rig, but without the battery option. I have yet to use it in anger (the Queensland weather has been very vicious with severe storms, sometime three or four times in a single day) but have got to grips with using the ATU. This is very fine and sensitive. Requires frequent back on forth with both dials but eventually you hit the sweet spot. And James, try using the pre-programmed function for calling CQ - works a charm and saves you much time and effort. I also bought the Begali Magnetic Traveler light (not so light!) to pair with it so looking forward to working you guys shortly when the weather improves. Grant VK4JAZ

@grantmcduling9760 Yes the z-match is very sensitive, it took a bit of practice but I managed to get the SWR below 1.5:1 on 40m, 30m, 20m and 17m. I have not tried the pre-programming function, I will try to set it up before my next activation. Hope the weather improves in VK4 and hope to work you on the bands soon, 73

Thanks for letting me know Phil. I had this issue on another video when I also used the Sony digital recorder to record the audio directly from the headphone jack. For some reason I can hear the audio ok when watching the video on my phone and computer but it does not seem to work on some other devices such as android phones.
