Finally get my Yaesu FT-817ND up and running and then you tempt me with this. Get thee far away from me Satan! LOL Great explorative video, Ed. Thanks!
Make sure you video your 1st outing with it. Even if it is a private video just for you, it is really neat to go back and see your 1st impressions with it.
Great demo of all the features and how to use them Ed! Like you, I love my TR-45L. When I first started using it, I thought there was something wrong with the S-meter. I was hearing signals strongly enough to work with them, but the meter wasn't moving. It turns out those were weak, to very weak, signals and the TR-45L was simply pulling them out of the noise. Great sensitivity! When the boomers arrived, the meter moved. :)
Thank you for the video the TR45L looks interesting. For me, it's hard to beat my KX2 for CW. I am new as well and I found the filtering on the KX2 met my needs. Now the TR45L has the look of an old radio and the meeter is outstanding. I may have to get one just for that and who knows i might just like it.
In another video of mine, I use the KX1, KX2, and KX3. From my experience, I prefer the filtering of the TR45 over all those. The filter is obtained by a flip of a switch. Very simple to accomplish mid QSO... I appreciate your feed back and comment, It allows others who maybe be looking to hear my opinion and yours. Then folks can make more informed choices.. Thanks again.
I bought 3. Traded one away. I have one in the mail for Evan to try so watch his channel! Then its on its way to W4ARB next. Give both those guys a look. Also, KD7DUG has good activation videos and some just good stuff.
I'd be happy to record it again if you would like to send me a flexible arm that hold the camera. I am using an old web cam taped to a stick above my table looking down. It was really tricky to strap the stick to the desk next to my table so that I would not shake the camera while touching the table. Using what I had at the time. If you have any questions on the rig, I'd be happy to entertain them. ~EdB. Thanks for the comment and viewing.
That's going to take some time. I'm not yet comfortable with logging and answering calls at the same time. Add video to that and I'll crash and burn. 😂
Thanks for watching! It is a thing of beauty. It may have a plastic housing, But it is a solid rig. All the components are top shelf. The analog meter sets it apart from the field.
@@W4EMB I started with morse-it, then LICW on line page, then CW Ninja at 25wpm. No problem there. Typed out several different ways of reviewing code. Reading code on various signs. Working on deciphering what I hear on the radio now. Toughest part for me after about 14 months. 79 is not the best age to learn code. Lol! I wont give up though. Using single lever and paddle keys to practice sending.
well........ I had 3 black ones and they kept walking away. So, I bought a pink one... it walked away twice.. but it always made it back to me. Because, the woman of the house would ask "whos knife is this??!".. the man would say "oops thats Eds knife, from work"... and the woman would always say " Well, it better go back to Ed"..

same here... i sat the 817 back on the shelf once i used this one... filters out of the box are second to none.
TU Ed! Great video. My TR45L arrives Friday :) will activate with it next week if the weather cooperates. 73 my friend.

I love the ability to pull weak sigs from the noise floor. It does a fantastic job. Both the skinny and full size version sound fantastic.

Awesome! I cant help but to share. This radio sets the bar high.
Nice demonstration. It’s on my shortlist of radio options when I get a little closer to activating. Thanks!
thanks for watching!
Great review Ed! I have the TR45L on my wish list.

Nicely done, Ed. I love mine, thanks to your recommendations months ago. I can't see how the performance and features can be beaten for the money.
Would love to see a recorded POTA from you!!

Excellent walk through of the TR45L! So true , you definitely need a rig that can distinguish CW from noise . 👍🏻
Thanks Doug, Let me know if you need any floaties!
Nice rig Ed, and it has that look of quality too. Thanks for sharing.

Good functional review Ed. Looking forward to more of your videos. Currently working to get my code copy down. TR45L on the purchase list when I do.
Excellent. How is the code practice coming? What is your favorite tool to practice with ?

Would be better to show the device filling the whole picture!
Thanks for the video/review Ed. Anyone recommendation on a protective way to carry the TR45L Skinny, preferably soft bag instead of hard-shell?
i use a pistol range bag. works awesome. the mag pouches hold my stuff very well
The Penntek has that.
thanks!
