This is one my favourite songs ever. Should have or could have been a single. Such a shame they never performed it live. The solos, both guitars and bass, are stellar. Great playing brother, congratulations.
This song is what I call a classic heavy metal masterpiece. I am just in love with this song, the kind of deep, profound love that cannot be conveyed with words. This song is the definition of classy. What a way to close the greatest classic heavy metal album of all times.
Exceptional!!! One of the most underrated Harris compositions. It has the ferocity of Killers mixed with that nostalgic, desolate, bittersweet feeling, perfect to wrap up the Seventh Son journey. I think that Killers and 7th Son are my fav Maiden albums because the music in it has the power to put you inside the scene depicted on the cover artwork.
Great cover! This era of Maiden is probably my favourite. Maybe because this was the first record of theirs I bought back in the day. Their sound on 7th Son and Somewhere in Time is just so large and epic. I love it! 🤘
I hear ya... Somewhere In Time is still my favourite, Seventh Son is up there as well but my next favourite is AMOLAD so I'm really enjoying the current era of the band as well 😊
It's difficult ti find a bad song in seventh son of a seventh son.... for me all are great end even more... and this is wonderful... and of course great cover!!!
Fantastic job. One of my fav Adrian solos and at 1:42 it sounds like a signature from something classical. I keep going to 'Ride of the Valkyries' but could be wrong. Just thought if anyone knows this, Nico will!
Chromatic passages like that were very common in e.g. Bach (Harpsichord concerto #1, Chromatic fantasia & fugue), Chopin the jazzmaster, but if you mean this particular "lick" note for note, it doesn't ring a bell right now.
Oh man it can be quite tricky to copy and often I find I just don't have it down as relaxed as he does. But I do try to get it a little closer every day 🙂 Glad you enjoyed this one!
@@LicksOfTheBeast it looks super relaxed. That's what's struck me about your playing. A lot of smooth control over that vibrato. Definitely the area of my playing I need to work on the most.
Thank you very very much! But keep in mind that we all start off sucking at guitar... It's just a question of practicing regularly even just a bit every day. Heaven Can Wait won't be next but I will definitely be covering that one. 😊
Because the best TH-camr ever is Rick Beato. 😆 Thanks for the encouragement! I'm still new at this and still have a lot to learn but I am working hard and hopefully I will keep improving. I hope you'll stay tuned for more and better content to come! Cheers 🤜🤛
Yes, I know that their concerts are quite intense, 90+ minutes of full commitment; I know that they could play 30 songs per show... but there are songs that I dont' understand how never got any play live. This one, the duellists... great work.
If you listen carefully to the original, you may notice that the third and fourth E notes in the intro harmony are palm muted, which adds a nice thump and a whole new layer of class to this already super classy intro. I have always wondered whether the rhythm guitars are really playing a gallop during the verses. It would certainly seem so, but if you listen carefully, you may notice that there seems to be something else going on with the rhythm, almost like triplets. If the rhythm was a gallop, I think it would "gallop" or heave a little more, but this sounds more like a pump.
It's a loose gallop. Triplets would sound very off with this part. Maiden's rhythm parts are very fluid so there is a lot of variance even within a 3-chord gallop pattern. It's what makes their sound so elusive for many people.
So many tabs for this song get that fast, downward-moving scaled part in Adrian's first solo wrong, starting with the position on the neck. Even if the notes are right, the feel is off when it is played in the wrong position. I always knew that Adrian would not play it down on the neck, and I knew where it should be played and that it should be a box pattern, but could never figure out the exact sequence of notes and frets. I am glad to see that you have figured it out. It would be great to see a lesson on how to play this, as it is too fast to catch in this video, even with the speed set to a slower speed.
That's such a kick ass song, of course there is not a bad song on "Seventh Son". I find when I listen to that CD it's so good that when you get to this ending you just want more and usually just let it start over and listen to it twice. Nico I love your beautiful guitar collection I was wondering if you have not done a vid already if you could do a quick one showing us your babies.? I saw the Destroyer II vid and really enjoyed the story of how you got it and I see all these excellent axes that you play so very, very well and just thought you could show them off a bit. Cheers!! Up The Irons!!!
This might sound weird, but I went and listened to this when I found out my favorite author - Cormac McMarthy - had died the other day. It just felt... cathartic.
I often use Captain Mark for the more modern stuff and British Dirt or Citrus for the older material. I will tweak them a bit to my liking though. So I usually change the amp settings to have more mids, a bit of boost in the bass and the treble about halfway. I also add chorus, delay, treble boost or wah as needed for the song I'm working on. There are also some pedalboards you can download that try to match a bit the overall sound of a specific album. I prefer working from the standard presets but they can still be fun to play with!
Hey man, I'm glad you liked my version of the song! 🙂 For tabs, I don't really use them... I just learn the songs by ear and by observing what they do live to get a better idea of the phrasing and fingering they used. Cheers!
It would be really great if you put your footprints on your videos below. I have not seen anyone else on TH-cam play like that. Maybe if you could make a video to explain the solo only the good die young.
THIS GUY IS SO GOOD MAIDEN SHOULD TAKE HIM ON TOUR WITH HIM AS THEIR OPENING ACT!!!!!
My favorite from SSOASS!
This is one my favourite songs ever. Should have or could have been a single. Such a shame they never performed it live. The solos, both guitars and bass, are stellar. Great playing brother, congratulations.
Yep, one of the strongest tracks on a stellar album.
masterpiece of the seventh son album ,thank you
Absolutely!! Thank you for watching!
Note for note perfection

I like Somewhere In Time for that same reason 🙂
The guitar work at the end of the track always gives me goosebumps - intense!
I hear ya! Davey going crazy = instant goosebumps! 😃

grandisssima cover!!! come sempre straordinario, per pulizia e precisione!!!!

Fantastic! Nice work!
Wow buddy, your production is getting better every day! Keep rocking!
I really appreciate you saying that man! It's a gradual learning process for sure.. glad to hear I am on the right track!

this is such an epic Maiden song, nailed it Nico. This was a long song to learn, but well worth it. Gotta love it..

Very nice once again. What string gauge do you use?
Thank you so much! On strat style guitars I use 9-46, on the Gibson SG 10-46 and on the Destroyer and Telecaster I use 9-42.
Nice 😍🤟🏼
Master, which preset do you use in BIAS FX2? The cover became brutal as always.

why they never played that live . perfect cover btw
What gauge strings where you using.
9-46 on both guitars.
Bruce had some very edgy lyrics on this one lol
Little bit... 😁
This song's solo has some weird licks!
It really does! Both he and Dave had some very creative lead playing on this album.
Very underrated song
