    PLEASE NOTE: Out of my excitement of getting this job done and the limited time I had, I completely forgot to remove the wheel weight and paint underneath the area. If this happens to you, no big deal. Just have to touch it up whenever the tires need to get replaced. For now let’s enjoy the new look of this beautiful truck. 42 mpg is what I’m getting on average!

    Great job. I've used the same routine painting my 2000 F150 wheels black. I can go back a several decades when cars had steel wheels painted identical to body color. Those too were painted black on my cars.

    The black definitely looks better! I did this to my Jeep Wrangler and now to my dump trailer. My maverick is a stripped hybrid xlt coming around July, can’t wait. Was there a clear coat on the silver? I sanded off my wrangler wheels and lasted 13 years until I sold.

    • @frankshandymanservice
      @frankshandymanservice  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We are in the Pacific Northwest. The back windows come darkened from factory but I added an additional 15% tint to them and it made it super dark. I believe thats legal for the back windows but not for the front ones. Legal limit is 35% for fronts. Thanks for watching and consider subscribing for more future videos

    YOU SHOULD OF REMOVED THE CLIP-ON TIRE WEIGHTS PRIOR TO PAINTING
    OTHERWISE
    THOSE GET REPLACED AFTER NEW SET OF TIRES IN NEW LOCATION GOING TO HAVE MISSED SPOT ON THE RIMS

    • @frankshandymanservice
      @frankshandymanservice  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Very good observation. Thank you for letting me know. I think my excitement of getting this done and the limited time I had caused me to overlook that. Worst case, I just have to use some of that left over paint from the can and touch up the area when it comes up. Should be several months away though, but for now I’ll enjoy the new look of the truck.

  • @99shadows66
    @99shadows66 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This is a very nice look but you made a crucial mistake. You failed to sand or at least scuff the factory paint on the wheels. The paint you put on will eventually begin to flake or peel off. Paint needs something to bite into, it's called mechanical adhesion. If you're not going to sand or scuff you could have used an adhesion promoter such as 3M adhesion promoter 111 which is a chemical that softens the base layer and allows the paint to bond onto it. As far as the center caps, you should have also scuffed those to improve adhesion. I always use 3M 07447 red Scotch Brite pads on plastic parts and wheels prior to painting since it easily conforms to the odd shapes and crevices of the wheels and center caps during the very important scuffing sessions. Hopefully, this information will help you and others who decide to paint their steelies in the future.

  • @ahbrian
    @ahbrian 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Good job, However, just buy aluminum alloy wheels and install it would be much better solution on this steel wheels. It will reduce 9Lbs of weight on each single wheel. that way it is much better for fuel economy, better looks and riding comfort as well. reducing 36lbs on suspension part will affect 10 times better driving comfort. because it moves faster driving on the uneven road condition.

      You got a point, maybe that’s why Ford paints all of them gray, So they don’t look so cheap. At the end of the day no matter what color they are, they’re still basic Steele wheels. In my point of view, they didn’t go well with the truck since nothing has gray. Only black trim, so to my preference I loved how the new color turned out. Plus when you ger new tires the intallation will lift all thar paint on the edges and touch ups never look as good. To each his own, just my personal preferences.
