im 14 and caught my first salmon about 5 months ago. When i hooked it i thought i had snagged a tree because my line was just not moving, after reeling for about 1 min i saw the biggest fish i had seen in my life and realised what it was and shouted for my dad. It took 10 minuets to land it and i was in shock. it was 22lb
That sounds like a cracker of a fish mate well done! Fish of a lifetime
What a fish to catch .hope hasn.t spoilt u .as thats some fish .well done lad
That's you hooked wee man !
Unreal brute to catch at 14
Congratulations! 😮
What reel where you using
Well done pal.🎣🎣🎣
There is NOTHING like the feeling when you hook and land your first salmon!
Can't agree more Richard! Had a couple in my time, they really are a special fish
Brilliant video and the last clip with the salmon that's what fishing all about 💯🐟
Glad you enjoyed the video! Shame we couldn’t land any of the other ones but had great fun trying
The Border Esk used to be fantastic for salmon and sea trout especially at night.
Love the video Tight Lines for 2023🎣🙂
Hopefully I manage one on there next year! Thanks for watching!
That feeling when you hook into a salmon and your heart rate doubles in impossible to describe but you did a great job of demonstrating it.
Very true, and thank you! Hopefully i'll get that feeling again before the end of the season
What a heart stopping moment in this video, this vid is like a movie to enjoy.
Thanks Jeff I appreciate that!
Seen salmon rubbing the hook off the bottom, and getting off frustration overload lol.
Really tough to take isn't it!
@@adventurefishinguk Have noticed this year very gentle takes, like a leaf catching on the line, then the head starts shaking, and the adrenalin starts pumping.🎣🎣🎣🎣
Mate what a couple of days fishing and such a shame we didn't nail one on the day! but still what a class trip and I tell you for free we will get one this year!!!
I know it was great fun, we will definitely land a few more this year between us 👍
What a fantastic video well done lads
@@aldomcgowan6561 thanks mate! Glad you enjoyed it
@@adventurefishinguk looks like a brilliant river is it fly and spin only ?
Catching a Springer for the camera is a rather astonishing feat. Rare as hen's teeth in our NW rivers. Well done lads.
Thanks mate! Unfortunately it's a feat i'm yet to accomplish, hopefully I will before the end of th season though 👍
You've only got until the end of May. They aren't called springers for nothing...
Nice trip, can’t beat times like that.
I still have nightmares about it to this day!
Use "Eagle Claw" trebles bud - Nowt' ll straighten 'em!!
Thanks for the advice!
Those salmon fights were epic! I have always been a bit put off salmon fishing as it seemed a bit exclusive but after seeing that I might have to give it a go. I landed a big Ferox trout out of Windermere earlier this year that seemed a lot like a salmon. It took a whole headless mackerel and put up a big fight!
Thanks mate! You should definitely give it a go, only just getting into it myself. It's not cheap but isn't as bad as you might think. Where abouts was that? I'd love to catch a big ferox, bucket list fish for sure
@@adventurefishinguk it was off the west shore of Windermere near Belle Grange Bay. Just luck really as I was deadbaiting for pike. Pike fight hard but this thing was like a steam train! Btw what weight fly rod/line were you using in the vid?
Those big brownies love a deadbait .
Come to Durham city down from [pssport office anything from june onwards after it been raining and the river is dropping off this is englands best salmon beat and best of all free fishing all ya need is salmon fishing license....one day 2 seasons back local anglers visiting for a hour or two caught between them over 120 salmon and sea trout now i dont know any scottish salmon river that can produce 120 from one beat full river yes but a 800 yard free section located in urban city centre...FREE fishing under magna carta 1251 (Y) everyones welcome and trust me teys no shortage of fish
That looked like a fun adventure, One day that salmon will come to your net. Keep up the great videos. Regards MD
Very fun trip out indeed! Fingers crossed, it's definitely no easy task. Thanks for watching!
Those grayling are beautiful looking fish so elegant
Couldn't agree more!
That salmon on the 180 rod was amazing … so sorry you didn’t get it in the net !!!!!!! I had one ( and only one ) on my ultralight rod whilst perch fishing on the river tees ….. Was just over 14lb and I was exactly like you when I realised what I had hooked into !!! Any fish on them rods are great fun but when a beast turns up it’s like a cartoon and bloody bonkers !!!!! Love it ,,…. Nice one ☝️….. well done lads & all the best to the mighty duo …. Cracking video George 👍🏽😀🎣
Thanks for watching John! Yeah especially that second salmon, it was an almighty fight. Not sure i'll ever have another battle like that with a fish. Real shame I was on the losing side of both of them! One day, hopefully this season, i'll be back to avenge it
Nice video! That is a Crane Fly pattern. Great fly on the Spey for trout. Lots of them around.
Thanks for watching and for the fly ID!
@@adventurefishinguk Thanks! I have put on a live one when I didn't have the pattern. 😁
Real in after he runs with drag to tire him out and not let the huck come out
Tried my best mate but the fish got the better of me!
The excitement catching that salmon is infectious. Love to watch your videos! If you are ever in Hampshire come and fish the Test.
Thanks Derek, don't often find myself over that way but i'd love to fish the test one day
I have lived near and fished the border esk all my life, you have had a cracking few days fishing there it’s rare!
You're lucky to be able to fish it regularly! I hear there aren't many better salmon rivers left these days particularly in the North West
@@adventurefishinguk it’s a hard one to fish you have been lucky, not many salmon waters left NW now, spend most time chasing perch up Scotland 👍
Gutted you didn't land them pal, great video though lads 👌🏼👍🏼
Me too, It still haunts me 😂 Often keeps me up at night haha
Great fishing lads I uesd to live up there in dunes for a few years my mate used to get lots of big salmon lovely river to swim all so we had a good buzz walking it one day in the sun I just went for a swim but thanks for the vids😊🎣
Thanks for watching mate! Yeah I believe a fair few nice ones get caught out of there when the conditions are right. Still a big ask though on any day!
Really enjoyed watching this - like a 'special' - a feature length video! Some good laughs....I'm sure Georgia will be having words with you about the childbirth thing...!
Glad you liked it! Thought i'd try something a bit different and make a long one. Luckily Georgia has a good sense of humour so i've gotten away with it
great video george mate keep going for that salmon youll get it
Thanks mate, hopefully! It's no easy task though
That fight on the 180 is mint. Not so worried about hooking a pike on it now.... brilliant stuff mate
Thanks mate! Yeah that rods handled plenty of pike, a big one would give it a run for it’s money 🎣
Guys on the Tay have been taking that middle treble off the lure altogether cause salmon use the lure to lever themselves off it. Take it off you don't need it, you. End to hook it on an end treble
Thanks a lot for the advice maybe I’ll give that a go!
Ken Harris had a 34 pounder from the boxes
Recently or historically?
Blown away by fishing 180 about to order one hoping 2000 reels are out
They’re fantastic! They work really well with an RR1000 reel 👍
Really helpful ur videos brother. I’m due to go to a Lake District soon so 100% I’ll be taking a rod 🎣.
Thanks mate, yeah take a rod 100%. Some of the best fishing in the country on a good day!
new to your channel and must say am loving it as its just fishing and not teaching about rigs, bait and rods your using.
Thanks Ian, really glad you're enjoying the videos!
@@adventurefishinguk love it buddy as so many want to teach us how to fish, but we know how to fish, we just want to see people out fishing.
Set the clutch BEFORE you start and do NOT try to adjust it during the fight . Salmon are very strong fish and it takes time to land them. Also put the button of the rod into your groin to take the strain.
I’m not averse to changing the drag slightly as the fight with a fight progresses, can be good to stay in control of the fish. The hook just let me down on the first one!
I live in Maine usa and our salmon are endangered but it was sure fun to hook them and see them jumping wildly on the line great video
It sure is, they fight really hard! It’s great to hear people are watching over from the US, and thanks for watching I appreciate it!
Good man for returning with the heavy rod as the problem with such a light outfit is that even if you finally land em, there’s something about the fresh spring fish as they are acclimating to fresh water that makes em extremely vulnerable to being overplayed so I know it didn’t feel like it at the time but those huge fish would of taken some landing on the small outfit. The stats for that beat of river are incredible for salmon
Yeah i've heard plenty get caught out of there! I'm hoping to be able to get back again some point over the next few weeks and have a proper crack at it
@Adventure Fishing UK superb it’s been quite a journey since I first seen you catch sea trout on the Wyre. Some really good bits of Angling to even get takes off such huge early Salmon as that beat isn’t known for spring salmon so early. I also know the other beat and river. With you going down Wales to the Menai you may wanna check out the river Ogwen near Bangor that has a caravan and camping site next to it with tickets on site.
I think you would like fly fishing at night for sea trout.
@@andrewbowen6875 I’ll have to check out that river thanks for the tip, what sort of fishing is it good for? Do you know the name of the caravan site? I’ve tried fly fishing for sea trout at night with no luck but I may try again
Hi mate,
That Fly is a Red Montana. Their very good for Rainbow Trout too.
Stevie in Scotland.
Thanks for the ID Stevie!
24:43 Welp! Somebody's getting a slap for that one😂
Fortunately she's got a good sense of humour!
Only 7.30 in .i feel physically sick for u lad .if going after salmon upgrade to partridge outpoint trebles .if they still exist .won.t open out and super sharp that was some lump of a grayling didn.t realise they fought that hard .Harry what a cracking fish at the end .well done lads
Thanks for watching mate!
Some cracking fish there bud
Thanks Craig!
Salmon are insane fighting fish would love a trip up there
I'm craving catching one so much i'm gonna be back there this year for sure
Well done mate. Try to relax more when fishing for salmon, you were getting the fish but losing them due to stress and over playing them. get a reel with better drag and enjoy the sport. You didn't catch the salmon, they caught you!!
Salmon almost always get the better of me, easier said than done to relax 😂 the adrenaline takes over for me haha hopefully I’ll be luckier this year
@@adventurefishinguk You two guys seem to be good friends and had a great fishing trip, that's what its all about.
Once you get a few more fish and refine your technique more it'll all snap into place.
I was impressed with your water craft which is a massive thing with salmon fishing, you have to know when and where the fish will be. I bought a Penn Fierce III reel with carbon fibre drag and it really makes a big difference over the old oiled felt type that allowed a stop / start jerking which resulted in fish getting off, something I noticed you were having big trouble with.
Anyway keep at it and keep sharing those great videos buddy.
Hello from NZ :-) Really enjoyed the video and hard luck on the Salmon. I know the feeling, in the hydro canal system here in the central South Island, we have trout over 20lbs - hook one of those and you know all about it. Some you win, some you don't and some you can't !! We use globugs (imitation trout eggs) on a colorado rig with a dropshot weight of about 1/4oz.
Thanks mate! Wow, 20lb sounds like a real monster. We consider a wild trout of around 3lb to be really big over here, I’d love to come visit New Zealand one day.
@@adventurefishinguk - I'd be happy to take you fishing when you get yourself over here :-)
@@iangraham3018 may just hold you to that!
I like your videos let’s keep going.
Thanks mate!
@@adventurefishinguk no problem you are the best fisherman
He,he,Congratulation,Congratulation,Congratulation!!!
Thanks mate!
Proper
Thanks mate 👍
you using the lighter tip for the fish rig 180 in them first clips?? that rod makes small fish feel heavy, cant imagine what a salmon of around 15lbs would feel like
I certainly was! It felt like a 300lb bluefin tuna 😂
solid lure use a tobie
Used them a few times before. Not for me I don't think, not had any luck on them and I've tried a few times! A few of my friends swear by them
Can you do a fly fishing tutorial mate on the x5 basic set up. From tying the line all the way to casting.... really want to get in to it.
I’ll see what I can do! I don’t often use the rod but I’ll try get out with it a bit more 👍
My biggest fish is a 9 pound bass
Thats a great fish mate well done
Av been lucky enough to catch a handful of salmon But 2 salmon stick in my head once I had 2 salmon in 2 visits to my local river years ago one was 16lb and other was 14lb, you cannot explain what he buzz you get from hooking a salmon
Salmon truly are something else aren't they! Hopefully i'll get one before the seasons over. Not holding my breath though!
@@adventurefishinguk salmon are very very special and very rare in some local rivers I have been blessed in catching a few, caught my first salmon aged 15 remember it like it was yesterday
they fight like a bull, spent two days salmon fishing in october in the lake district, ended up hooking one but losing it about 3ft from the bank
Then you know the pain! No easy task landing a salmon, hardest fighting fish i've come across so far I think. Which river? I've done some in the lakes but had no luck just yet
You sound like Tam Fun
Can't say I know who that is!
Honestly I'd love to fish for Salmon but I think I'd have a heart attack if I hooked into one haha
I very nearly did 😂 definitely not the most relaxing kind of fishing
Me too the biggest fish I’ve ever caught was no more than 3lbs maybe a little lighter but deffo over 2 🤷🏼♂️✌🏻💙👍🏻♥️🎣🏴
Another great video as always, but losing a fish is comparable to child birth😆 god I hope your girlfriend hasn't seen this video😂😂.
I could feel your pain when you lost that big salmon though. Tight line & see you down the road.🎣😎🐟
Thanks mate! Fortunately she's got a good sense of humour so i've gotten away with it 😂
@@adventurefishinguk 😂😂😂 nice 1 Mrs adventure fishing.
🎣😎🐟
Speaking from a bitter experience. Salmon will always find the weakest link whether is hook, swivel or leader. You really need to pay attention to how solid is your rig. I tend to change hooks on my lures for salmon. You could use Owner ST-41. Having said that I would use beefier rod too :) BTW which club owes the stretch where you were fishing?
You’re definitely right there mate they’re a very powerful fish. Everything has to be spot on! It’s not a club stretch it’s managed by the landowner
5pm
👍
I think that 2nd fish was nearer to 20! its amazing the feeling of powerlessness you experience when attached to a beast like that! your time will come! how do you think they compare to pike of similar size?
Could well have been knocking on 20 but we'll never know! Hopefully one day I manage a fish like that. In my opinion salmon fight much harder than pike, what do you think?
@@adventurefishinguk definitely! The trouble is that it's such a dwindling resource that it's going to become even more expensive. I had a lot of blanks even when there were half decent runs up to the noughties.
My pal has several trips during the year, usually Scotland but sometimes Iceland or Norway. Sometimes he does OK, others he'll spend £4k on a week and come back blank. I haven't the patience, and pike are much more plentiful!
When you're on your own, attached to a beast like that it's a surreal experience though!!
@@davidprocter1585 It's such a shame they're only getting harder and harder to come by. I just hope I didn't miss my only chance at a truly giant springer
@@adventurefishinguk tbh George you may be as well looking into the warrington club water on the ribble that Harry joined. There's a chance of a summer fish there, more so than the lune in recent years.
The Eden is possibly the next best English river to the Tyne, but its expensive on the best bit (Warwick Hall). Always seems better north of the border these days. Up to about 15 years ago I used to get a few every October on the mint, a small river that runs into the Kent near kendal. If I could catch the water right, you'd get one or two. Beefy single handed fly rod, 14lb leader and a small salmon fly, also took a barbel rod for worming the awkward little pools I couldn't fly fish. Dread to think what it's like now, Kent salmon and sea trout have dropped off a cliff.
Are there any caravan touring sites with fly fishing were you can tackle up on site walk straight to river great vidio
Thanks Keith, glad you liked the video! Regarding your question, nothing springs to mind unfortunately but I’m sure there will be a few!
Love the vid! What was the website called where you stayed. I can’t find anywhere that isn’t fly fishing :(
Have a look on Fish pal mate there's some great stretches available
Are you allowed to spin up that way for them? I can only find places that are fly only. Thanks
You are mate yeah. A lot of places allow spinning but only when the water is above a certain height
@@adventurefishinguk
Is this paxton house by any chance or around that way (Berwick)
Not sure if your keep the river discloused but worth a ask, very interested in doing some spinning for them, cheers!
Epic video and session guys, may I ask what sort of money it was for the fishing and caravan accommodation?
Thanks Richard! For the two days fishing it was £50pp and the Caravan was free
Can you post a link to where this is please thanks
Hi
Hi
I also believe the pain is comparable to that of child birth 😂 it lasts longer too haha.
Childbirth is over in a day or two tops, that salmon still keeps me up at night 😂
Set your drag to let a fish run never ever tighten it when you are playing it stop the reel with your thumb so if it wants to go again it can
Thanks for the suggestion mate i'll work on that for next time
Inspiring vid. Can’t wait to wet a line myself pal! Which river was that on?
Border esk mate 👍 glad you liked the video and thanks for watching
🙏🎣 congrats guys, great effort. If is not secret how do I get in touch with the landowner?
Send me a message on georgelambfishing on instagram 👍
A smoother clutch would have been the ticket yours was too jerky, probably what bent you hook 🪝 🤔, seen a 20 lb salmon landed with 4lb nylon on grayling tackle lol took a while but landed all the same
You could be right there mate. Is there a way I make it smoother? It’s a fairly new Abu Garcia so I don’t see why there would be a problem. Maybe it needs a bit of oil
Can you post what equipment you use please rod reel etc
I use rigged and ready travel rods with their reels mate. If you have a look on the website their will be plenty on there! You can get 10% off too with code AFUK10
you done good job but should not of put that extra tight on drag i have done this more than once and hooks straight out and definitely not with trout hooks on
I won't be making that mistake again mate! Next time i'll have a much stronger rod too
Is that fly reel a Hardy Marquis.
Not sure David, you'd have to ask Harry!
Where is the place you stayed in the caravan pal , really want to take my sons spinning cheers
Can you shoot me a message on instagram mate at georgelambfishing
NEVER fish with those lures with underpowered tackle. My dad told me when I was 10 years old always use heavier tackle than you think you need.
Will in the future, just didn't expect that size of fish!
:)
👍🎣
Did ya eat it?
Everything caught in this video was released 👍
I hate to be a know it all but you need to not fight the fish so hard, i've seen it a lot in your videos and you suffer for it. It's better to tire them for a lot longer instead of forcing them in. Good day sir
Thanks for the advice!
That fly a bibeo by any chance...
It is Allan yes, well spotted and thanks for watching!
Yup....you cannot reel a salmon like you would an equivalent size pike, as many a coarse angler who first hooks a salmon finds out lol. You had the drag set too hard, if anything, and tried to haul it in too quick, your mate was in the water with the net far too early. We've all been there, so dont feel too gutted. Salmon are simply masters at getting off the hook, even for salmon anglers like myself who have fished for decades.
Haha yeah mistakes were made, that hopefully won’t be made again. Will definitely be out after some springers next year!
You lost them fish over playing them off the drag that's why you straightened the hook, . Use the real properly back off when it needs be never use the spinning reel as a fly reel.
What do you mean playing on the drag? The drag is there to stop the line snapping! Remember I was only using an ultra light telescopic trout rod!
