    Everything you said was spot-on. Black people keep fighting for crumbs in a industry that was specifically built to keep us from ever achieving past the benchmark they've set for us. Yet and still, in spite of knowing this, we keep looking to them to validate our art, our existence, our genius. And it's frustrating because we deserve better we deserve to create our own systems that uplift us.

    • @TiffanyByrdHarrison

      Fighting for cookie crumbs, OKAY! and that validation is costing us so much time that we could be putting in building our own. Very well said!

    I completely agree. But what happened to the people who made the shows we watched growing up? The Martins, Family Matters, Fresh Prince, Moesha, The Parkers, and many more? How did we have all these shows back then and now we can barely get shows? What was the change in Hollywood then?

    • @TiffanyByrdHarrison
      @TiffanyByrdHarrison  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +22

      Great question! my theory is that a lot of the makers back then had friends of friends willing to fund each others projects. 80s/90s was a TV renaissance, especially for Black and Brown tv shows. And studios were willing to capitalize and cater to Black audiences more specifically. But every other decade, it’s as if they remember that they need to “program” the audience to remember their place.

    Giiirrrlll way to come back with a thought provoking bang! I always felt like as a Caribbean person our Caribbean stories should be on the big screens of Hollywood too. Now I’m thinking maybe we should just do it ourselves instead of knocking on Hollywood’s door, especially after seeing how they treat their own people who are already « inside ». I haven’t watched the full interview with Monique yet since I’m still recovering from the Katt Williams interview.Can’t wait for your other vids!!! Love you girl !

    I'm new to your channel and I love that you are speaking from the perspective of a Jesus follower. I completely agree that we don't need to keep making Hollywood work. I run an animation studio in South Africa and it's very tempting to choose the "Hollywood" method of doing things. As if that route is the only way to get a project done, but I'm learning that Hollywood is not the end all and be all. They don't always understand my context or our vision as a studio. And if I'm confident in my project and how people will respond to it then surely I'm creative enough to find clever and unique ways to reach my audience outside of the Hollywood system.

    I hate and love what we're learning now when it comes to the industry. We're learning that the system is working for those it was really meant for and there's zero intent in changing that. We're learning that "our" shows and movies weren't really made by us. We are learning there is major gatekeeping happening when it comes to black folks in the industry. Then people want to know why Hollywood is still making the same tired stuff all the way around. Thank you for this video!

    YESS!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 You nailed it! I have always said that to make it in Hollywood you need to sell a peice of your soul and integrity, especially for black folk. At the end of the day it's the selfish immoral sin nature in humanity. The LOVE of money is the root of all evil. Anytime a lot of money is involved you will see so much evil. I'm glad you are pursuing your dreams with honor and integrity.

    Hollywood aint for everybody. You have to figure out what it is that you have to offer that someone else cant. Patience, endurance & faith in yourself is key. Expect to run into exploitation & degradation, that is the nature of the business. It all may not be worth it. Expect & embrace failure, & dont give up. In showbiz, Mediocrity usually rises to the top. Life is not fair so dont act surprised when you run into those nepo babies that cheat. Good luck and stay prepared for great luck!

    You're right. I saw Mo'niques interview, my tears are better spent on a desert. Look how they treat their own, even to the point where those mistreated will turn around and side with their abusers against us. A child said to me one time 'You're just a cleaner' and he started taunting me '£2 p/hr, no brains, no brains' but I would choose to hear that every single day over being part of Hollyweird.
    Now I ask you, how many drugs did I take to be unscathed by those comments? None. Whose advances did I have to fight off or accept to not be mistreated by the teachers? Nobody's. Was I prevented from becoming an accomplished poet, illustrator, travelling artist and whatever because I didn't entertain any bs? No. Did and do I still get my dues? Yes. So what are we doing?

    Tiffany!!!! The more I watch your videos, the more I engage with your channel - I just thank God that you're sharing your heart and sharing your journey. I agree, as a former working actor, aspiring filmmaker myself - that Hollywood ain't it and really hasn't been it for those that are pursuing it for the art alone. There seems to be a 5% of the upper echelon that controls what is distributed and it's no secret that major conglomerates like Warner Bros. and Disney are more interested in catering to the minority culture right now and are often swayed by the "green paper". This is something Paul warned Timothy of, - 1 Timothy 6:10 - so, while it's not new, I do believe there is always a conversation to be had, so thanks for facilitating to a degree. Would you be interested in finding/platforming your own talent had you possessed the resources? I would also love to hear who you respect/are rooting for in the entertainment industry today. Anyway, please keep it up and, this video may have inspired me to do my own of sorts. So thank you. Be blessed!

    • @TiffanyByrdHarrison
      @TiffanyByrdHarrison  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      l would have to agree, she definitely does seem unhealed, and I knew when I watched the interview that when she was asked about suing for the money, she said “we don’t need any courts” which let me know, she was probably going to hold this for the rest of her life. I think she was mistreated, and the industry has a way of doing that, but I would encourage her to let it go and let her award be in good character and integrity, rather than getting the recompense financially.

    Tiffany. You have been such a blessing for me. You articulated the point so well. Yes, I did watch the Monique interview. I've also watched her son's plea that his mother be respectful of his boundaries. So the reality is that like many people, Monique is more nuanced than Monique good-Hollywood moguls bad. There has to be a point as you said that you realize the equity you have in negative outcomes. I have visited Hollywood twice and both times, Spiritually, it was empty feeling for me. There is something very sinister about that place. And for those of us who are followers of Christ, it has to be even more
    The Bibles tells us in Paul's second letter to the church at Thesalonica 3:6 that we are not to walk with the unrighteous. So how can we believe we are to be "making it" in Hollywood?

One reason why hollywood performs the way it does is because it's the formula that America's look to for improvement, not realizing that they have the process and prepare the projects that support their progress. When we work with grants, and alternative funding opportunities, it supports development of new areas, habits and styles that influence the masses. I respect Monique and Halle Berry for enduring and surviving the ET industry but when I think of the roles that enabled them to make it, they are demeaning and degrading roles. Precious and The Parkers roles for Monique and The Monster'Ball role that Halle got the Oscar for were all roles that portrayed characters I would not want to go down in history as representing black women, because they portrayed characters at their worst.

      This is a GREAT point. Black Culture struggles to be whole in our honesty..We don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater when it comes to their historic wins, but if we're honest, why does the mainstream reward us for being the grossest versions of ourselves? it's more than a coincidence that the roles were both pretty awful in terms of character.

    Here is the thing, even if you had made it as an actress in the Hollywood system you would not have been happy, just going by the personality you display on your channel, Hollywood likes to fill boxes with very specific types, in Hollywood had you become successful you'd be constantly asked to play the female love interests best friend(the love interest would be played by Halle Berry or Zoe Saldana or a clone of those two), or the male love interests horrible ex wife, or an assistant district attorney in a legal drama (and those are the nicer roles you would get offered) why because Hollywood is lazy and they cast based on what is easily consumed by the masses.
