Another delightful short story from a great writer. Each story of Mark John Maguire is an entire entity, a small universe. Classically written, very strong, and it lives in your mind for a long time after you read it, so it gives us a kind of insight, and I like Maguire's endings- they are open, and they leave the reader with something like uneasiness, they're like containers for the readers' projections. They are perfect. Thank you, Mark!
Another wonderful story and could picture it all as if I was there...thought the train journey part was particularly funny..lol..thanks for all your work, such an enjoyable listen!
I just loved this story!! I smiled and giggled the whole way through. I felt as if I was at the BBQ with Cedric et al. Thank you Mark - love your work ❤️
"... even the legitimacy of his antecedents." LOL!!! And that's just one of practically every line of this story that had me rolling on the floor! Your use of words is nonpareil. Oh my God, I'm still laughing! Absolutely brilliant, Mark! And your narrations... perfection. The subtle changes in tone and tempo actually produce a visual effect in my mind's eye, as though I'm seeing the characters as though in a stage play. I will be listening to this comedy again tomorrow. Cheers until next month!
It is quite cool, rainy, and late at night. I am warmed and alert listening to your marvelous story. Your use of our lovely English gives me hope for our futures in a world of texting. Thank you endlessly.
That was very enjoyable and well delivered. Rob and Cedric seemed, to me, to be of a very similar character. And there are so many of us just like them. 😮
Another wonderfully told story from my personal Santa! Have really been enjoying these. Thank you for your time and hard work. You are much appreciated my friend!
I once had a Mayor who wrote their own speech for a community event that followed on the heels of vandalism of the same community project....a career-ending tirade if ever there was one. Admitting it was written without any intention to deliver, and intending to destroy the paper, I nonetheless accompanied the politician and the document to the paper paper shredder, to make certain she would not present the wrong speech in error because the "just kidding" document was alongside the "correct" version. I had a great laugh remembering that as your story unfolded. Thanks again for taking the time to share your creations. 🥰
Amazingly enjoyable! Full of little quips, bon mots and understated humour. Your ability to describe what goes on in the head of an ordinary human being, in extremis, is very insightful and we follow the character's thoughts, totally understanding his motivations. All very badly put, I'm afraid - but I'm sure you know what I mean. Excellent! Thanks very much for all your hard work in putting together these readings and uploading them. :)
Mr Mark, another fantastic story. Your initial description of the Coy Pond and sleeping pills stunt had me howling with laughter. Perfect description!! At the end, I kept thinking...bet she thinking he's going to propose marriage. I felt that he'd failed to delete the message even before the father arrived home.
I believe it’s a situation that we’ve all been in. Sent the wrong message to the wrong person and had that sudden terrible panic that they might take it the wrong way even though it wasn’t meant for them. Or worse, the people who somehow have their bosses number and send a drunken message in the early hours, not realising until the following hung over morning that they probably won’t have a job the following Monday…. I don’t understand how they have or want their bosses number in the first place….
Don't hear your story as yet but I have to reply recently I did and when the person I have a mutual friends sends and say u send it to the wrong person I almost piss Myself because her name was in the message which I was sending to someone else I try to talk to her to explain,One . month after we made up she forgive me. Now I don't write names in case it goes to the wrong person
I am relieved to say I've not done that. At least to the best of my knowledge. If I had too much to drink, perhaps. But if I don't remember, it didn't happen. 😉
Another perfect short story! You are a brilliant writer and these are such a delight.
Thank you very much for your kind words, Annie - I am delighted you think so!
